PiKoSoL v0.2.0 — LAB-04.3.2 Interactive Shell (Tang Nano 9K)

Hardware verified on 23 October 2026 — an experimental PicoRV32/RV32I interactive command environment implemented entirely on Sipeed Tang Nano 9K FPGA.

Included

  • picorv32_lab04_hdmi_nano9k.fs — the exact hardware-tested FPGA image for volatile SRAM programming (GW1NR-9C; not a PC executable).
  • SHA256SUMS.txt — checksum for the release FPGA image.
  • Source code and instructions are in the tagged repository: 01-PicoRV32/lab04/, plus docs/lab04/README.md.

Capabilities

  • Real PicoRV32 RISC-V RV32I CPU, 16 KiB ROM, 1 KiB working RAM.
  • UART interactive shell at 115200 8N1, commands HELP, INFO, MEM, STATUS, LED, GFX, TERM, CLS, OBJ, MOVE, COLOR, SIZE, PANEL and KEYS.
  • 640x480 HDMI video, 32x76 text ring, independent TERM and GFX layouts, two bounded graphics objects and six-LED HUD.
  • Live i/j/k/l movement without Enter after GFX, KEYS; T to return to terminal.

Validation

  • Model and actual PicoRV32 RTL simulation: LAB0432_RTL_ACCEPTANCE_PASS.
  • Gowin place/route and bitstream generation: PASS.
  • CDC: graphics 4/4 index, 24/24 value; UART 8/8, req and ack fully routed.
  • STA: 15/15 SDC constraints active, setup +5.148 ns, hold +0.359 ns, recovery +0.541 ns, removal +1.535 ns.
  • Board: physical UART/LED/HDMI TERM/GFX and live keyboard controls tested; operator photographs supplied.

Programming (SRAM ONLY)

Preferred validated method: Gowin Programmer / 01-PicoRV32/lab04/tools/program_lab04_sram.ps1 with operation index 2. Configuration is temporary; power cycling requires loading again. Do not use a Flash programming operation during this exercise.

A third-party browser programmer exists: openFPGALoader Web Interface. openFPGALoader includes a tangnano9k/FT2232 board profile, but WebUSB programming on the user's actual Windows 10 + Tang Nano 9K has not yet been validated. Check USB discovery in Chrome first; do not replace known-good drivers just to try it. Select SRAM, never Flash. The browser method is experimental and not an acceptance criterion for this release.

Known limitations

PiKoSoL is not a full operating system: no filesystem, multitasking, network stack, USB-host keyboard or preemptive scheduling. The current HDMI header still displays the previous static v0.1.8b label even though PicoRV32 firmware is v0.2.0; this is a cosmetic issue targeted for a future build. The command interpreter is ASCII-only with a 47-character line and one saved history entry.
