Changelog

3.1.0.4047

  • Custom theme atlas: match DWMWindow themes by class so atlas replacement survives theme-cache changes.
  • Configuration loading: apply machine settings and defaults when the session is inactive or its user registry is unavailable.
  • Build and CI: separate verification from full builds and trim source paths while preserving SourceLink. See the build guide.

3.1.0.4043

  • Developer theme extension: add a single unsigned DLL for Windows theme application and the classic color page, including the transparency checkbox, localized swatch labels, Automatic RGB alignment with the Shell and OpenGlass color/balance writes. Developers customize it from source or use the separate unsigned CI DLL/PDB artifact, and manage its registration themselves. It participates in solution/CI builds but is excluded from installer packages and formal Release assets. See Windows theme integration.
  • Windows transparency: the GUI controls the original user's EnableTransparency by default. Presets retain the ColorizationOpaqueBlend field and map its boolean inversely; Default explicitly enables transparency. Preview and recovery never delete the Windows preference. --no-system-transparency restores the ordinary DWM mapping. See the mapping and recovery rules.
  • Automatic intensity: explicit Automatic selection uses the native wallpaper calculation's alpha for GlassOpacity and Windows 7 balances. The theme extension retains native alpha while using the Shell's applied RGB. Later wallpaper changes remain a separate Windows behavior; see the alpha limitation.
  • Accent publication: GUI preview no longer explicitly synchronizes AccentColorMenu. Save publishes the current RGB regardless of color-selection policy, skipping equal values and retaining retryable recovery on failure. Actual Shell side effects during Automatic still participate in recovery. The extension separately follows the native setter's persistence flag, which is not exclusive to Save.

3.1.0.3901

  • Configuration editing: edit HKLM by default or the original user's HKCU, with layer-specific controls, reversible previews and optional merging. Startup no longer requires migration. Shift+More switches the editing view after pending changes are resolved. This restores user-layer editing discussed in #350.
  • Preset library: capture effective configuration across both layers; review and trust ZIP imports before applying them. Schema 3 presets are scope-independent. Applied resources have fixed locations independent of the library, so updating or deleting a preset does not break current configuration or Revert. See Preset library and packages for operations, format and licensing.
  • Color handling: store intensity in GlassOpacity and write balance Overrides without directly changing Windows base balances. Color choices remove both color Overrides from both layers. Manual preserves the two glass-color alpha values, updates DWM AccentColor, and synchronizes a changed accent preference unless forced-color policy blocks it. Automatic requests wallpaper coloring, then synchronizes the permitted accent preference and DWM AccentColor from the result. Color refresh uses targeted ImmersiveColorSet notifications without GUI calls to private DWM Get/Set APIs. Background balance resets are described in #4, #265 and #340; color masking is discussed in #356. See color settings and the design rationale.
  • Installer and interface: the completion-page launch starts the GUI as the original user before its own authenticated elevation. The GUI gains a new Fluent-derived icon with embedded attribution.
  • Dependencies and repainting: update wxWidgets to 3.3.3, KNSoft.NDK/SlimDetours and SourceLink dependencies. Buffer color-swatch painting and coalesce accent notifications to reduce GUI flicker.

Lookup compatibility

Overridable values now resolve in this order:

HKCU Override → HKLM Override → HKCU base → HKLM base → default

For valid values, this restores the order preceding d6b4414 (2026-08-02). From that commit through 3.0.2, HKCU base masked HKLM Override. The affected bases are ColorizationColor, ColorizationAfterglow, ColorizationColorBalance, ColorizationAfterglowBalance and ColorizationBlurBalance, each with its corresponding Override variant. Ordinary settings still resolve HKCU → HKLM → default.

Back up the configuration values in both DWM keys before upgrading. To retain a user base value's previous effect, remove the conflicting machine Override or manually put the intended value in the user's Override. GUI color choices remove both color Overrides from both layers, so manual color Overrides are not preserved by those operations. Revert undoes pending GUI changes; after Save, restoring old configuration requires the backup. Reinstalling an older binary changes lookup rules but does not undo saved registry edits.

See Configuration and registry reference for the editing, merge and managed-color rules. Existing schema 1/2 packages remain readable after validation and conversion; their original files and licensing are preserved.

3.0.2.3749

Adds Windows 11 26H2 support and fixes the inactive window border regression following KB5124010 (#367). Windows 11 26H1 uses the experimental MILComp implementation; see Compatibility and DWM architectures.
