Extenive reworking on layout/appearance or course notes, with some minor content changes

  • Moved from Juptyerbooks to Quarto:
    • More in line with other materials that use Quarto for presentations
    • Moved presentation materials to slides instead of tabs
    • Added Research Computing branding
  • Fixed broken/incorrect scripts in example sections
  • Made welcome page less wordy
  • Add in session objectives, as per State objectives for each session #7
  • Created "Exercises" section at the end of each session to consolidate the exercises as per Include consolidation questions / tasks under each session OR make them more prominent #8. Presentations still have small exercises sprinkled throughout ("oneliners") for demonstration during delivery, but these are reproduced and aded to at the end of each session.
  • Very basic explanation of content added to README

I've tried to update/correct info wherever, but as some configs have changed over the past few months, I may have missed something:

  • Specifically re storage, please sense-check this

I've tested the example scripts (exercises in submission scripts section) and both work, but please check that I've provided sensible requests with regards resources etc.

Before this is merged, I have pushed the site live so you can review it without building it locally: https://arctraining.github.io/hpc1/

However, if you do want to build it, then you just need to use quarto render.

Please please feel free to modify/remove sections/etc. as wished - I just didn't want it to be broken!

Also, @ollie-clark, you'll see on the welcome page I've not added in a "Day 2" heading - I'm not sure where you want to draw the dividing line between the two day's content - we can always see how it goes and update depending on how farthrough you get without overwhelming people!

Wish I'd actually remembered to approve these before part 1. Looks much better. Approved.
