This release has several new features, as well as a breaking change to the user interface (sorry, but this is still version 0, so please bear with me).
The significant new features are:

  • Mesh and flow state I/O---you can now use Hexed as a mesher for your own solver (if you're willing to write a parser for the file format) and read/write restart files.
  • Stabilization with elementwise artificial viscosity. This is not the same as artificial viscosity for shock capturing. It is an additional artificial viscosity term purely for stabilization which has a stronger dissipative effect but is activated at a much more relaxed smoothness threshold. This is an experimental feature, but it seems to help a great deal for certain problems.
  • There is now an outflow boundary condition which improves convergence behavior for some problems.

The breaking change is the init macro in the input files has been replaced with the sequence $start; $mesh; init_state, so that $mesh and init_state can be replaced with file input operations if desired. You can find the latest instructions here.
