Download: DroidDeck-MaliBridge-v0.5.4.apk (below, under Assets). Install it over v0.5.3.1: your games, settings and Steam login stay.

Fixes

  • Green squares and red-tinted textures on the Dimensity 9500 (Mali-G1-Ultra) in games like Hollow Knight, Silksong and Hades should be gone. Thanks to Mondyro for finding it (#24).
  • Black picture with sound on Samsung Exynos phones (Xclipse GPU): games should show now.
  • Black Steam screen on older Mali GPUs (Mali-G57, G68 and similar, like the Galaxy A16 and Galaxy F15). Steam's menus are now drawn without the GPU on those phones; games still use the GPU. If it ever comes back, set the new Steam menus setting (next to Safe mode) to software.
  • Missing or garbled text in Balatro and other OpenGL games is fixed.
  • Fewer crashes when a phone runs low on memory. A game that runs out of memory now stops on its own instead of taking Steam and everything else down with it.
  • Less stutter on later launches: a game that starts with little free memory no longer loses what it saved on earlier runs, so the stutter doesn't come back every time.
  • The screen is updated once per game frame, not twice: less work for the phone. Half-Life 2 runs about 6% faster on the Tab S11 Ultra.
  • Games no longer lose their picture at the end of a session that Android had paused in the background for a long time.
  • The app no longer crashes at session start when a setting was stored in the wrong form.
  • Flickering, wrong-coloured picture after changing graphics settings (seen in Ori and the Will of the Wisps on a Mali-G720) should be fixed.

New

  • Updates inside the app: the app checks MaliBridge's releases, shows what's new and installs the update when you tap it. Wi-Fi only if you want.
  • Some games are set up automatically on Mali: Don't Starve Together, Half-Life 2 and RimWorld on older phones, and Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb get the settings they need. Settings you change yourself are kept.
  • Send logs to MaliBridge: one tap uploads a session's logs and gives you a short code like ML-7F3K to paste in your GitHub issue or on Discord. It's in Setup > Diagnostics, on the session's end screen and in the side menu.
  • The game's own logs come along (Unity and Unreal games' logs and crash reports, and SOMA's log) in Share logs and Send logs.
  • Performance HUD (side menu → Display) now shows battery level, battery temperature, the battery's power draw in watts and Android's thermal state next to the fps.
  • Steam's Performance Overlay now shows on Samsung tablets that hide their temperature sensors (the Galaxy Tab S10 series and similar). It only runs while it's switched on in Steam's Performance menu.
  • Setup shows a Mali GPU as ready when the Mali bridge is on, instead of "GPU not supported".
  • GPUs other than Mali can try it too: a player's Galaxy S26+ (Samsung Xclipse) runs Steam and games. Adreno phones keep using the official DroidDeck.

Smaller changes

  • Logs say more when something goes wrong: the first graphics error a game hit, how Android ended the app, what took too long to load, and why a session stopped right at start on some phones.
  • The session report shows a game's GPU memory again, says "unknown" for a CPU limit it can't read, and lists CPU cores held at one clock while a game ran.
  • The device report no longer says a Mali GPU "needs an Adreno" when the Mali bridge is on.
  • Share logs works with more apps (the zip stays readable while the app you shared it to opens it).
  • The session report no longer lists normal behaviour as warnings, and says when a game stopped showing new frames.

Known issues

  • Short freezes while moving in some games that stream their textures in as you walk (Dark Souls III, Hob). Being worked on.
  • On vivo phones Steam's menus can be slow (about 15 fps) with a white flash when a menu opens. Logs from a vivo phone on v0.5.4 help.
  • Resident Evil 2 can show "Failed to send play data to RE NET" on its menu. Press OK: the game plays normally.
  • Dark Souls III on slower devices can say "Frame rate unsuitable for online play": that is the game's own rule below about 20 fps, so play it offline there.

Everything else is the same as v0.5.3.1.
