Release list
Promptly v1.4.0
What's new
Drag to close — the bubble now hides without a trip to the notification panel:
- Press and hold the floating bubble and drag it: a ✕ target appears near the bottom of the screen
- Drop the bubble on the ✕ and the bubble hides — the ✕ turns red (and the phone buzzes) when you're on target
- Drop it anywhere else and it simply moves there, like before
- Safe by design: the ✕ never appears while a recording or transcription is running, so a live recording can't be closed by accident
- If a recording is saved and waiting (amber), dropping the bubble on the ✕ throws it away — the same rule as hiding it from the notification panel
Download
Download app-release.apk below and install it on your phone. It installs right over the current version — your API key, language, and word list stay as they are.
Promptly v1.3.0
What's new
Automatic retries and saved recordings — the app now handles a lost internet connection the same way the desktop app does:
- If the internet drops mid-transcription, Promptly quietly retries (3 attempts with short waits) instead of failing right away
- Your recording is never lost to a connection failure — if all retries fail, the bubble turns amber and your words are saved
- Tap the amber bubble to retry once you're back online; press and hold it to discard the recording
- Hiding the bubble while a recording is saved also discards it
- Only connection problems are retried — a wrong API key still fails immediately

testrelease
What's new (TEST build — v1.3)
Automatic retries and saved recordings — the phone app now handles a lost internet connection the same way the desktop app does:
- If the internet drops mid-transcription, the app quietly retries (3 attempts with short waits) instead of failing right away
- Your recording is never thrown away on a connection failure — if all retries fail, the bubble turns amber and the recording is saved
- Tap the amber bubble to retry once you're back online; press and hold it to discard the recording
- Hiding the bubble while a recording is saved also discards it
- Only connection problems are retried — a wrong API key still fails immediately
⚠️ This is a pre-release for testing. It is not shown as the latest version. The official v1.3.0 release follows after testing.

Promptly v1.2.0
What's new
- My words — a personal word list — add tricky terms (names, brands, jargon) in the app, one per line, and the app learns them. Mishearings like "cloud code" get corrected to "Claude Code".
- Two-layer fix: your words act as a spelling hint while listening, and the AI cleanup corrects anything that slips through.
- Safe by design: genuine uses of similar-sounding words ("save the backup to the cloud") are never replaced — same rules and tests as the desktop version.
- Works with translation too: the final text is polished in the target language, with your vocabulary applied.
Download
Download app-release.apk below and install it on your phone (Android 8.0+). It updates cleanly over any previous version. A free Groq API key is required.
Promptly v1.1.0
What's new
- AI text polish — before your text lands in the clipboard, a fast Groq AI model cleans it up: grammar, punctuation, filler words ("um", "I mean"), and broken sentences. Your meaning and language are always preserved.
- On by default — flip the "Polish text with AI (fix grammar)" switch in the app any time.
- Works together with the Translate feature: the final text is polished in the target language too.
- Built-in safety nets: if the AI is unreachable, the raw transcription is copied; instructions spoken out loud are never executed or answered.

Promptly v1.0.2
New in v1.0.2:
- Transcription language dropdown (31 languages, English default) — the app now knows the language before listening, so no more surprise languages on long recordings
- Translate-to dropdown — speak in one language and get the text in another (e.g., English → Urdu). Default is No translation
- Translation is free via Groq (llama-3.3-70b-versatile) — same API key
- If translation fails, the original text is still copied
Also includes everything from v1.0.1: tap-to-cancel, 45s timeout, still-working notice, accurate model default, sleep-when-hidden battery optimization, quick settings panel buttons.
Promptly v1.0.1
Update with reliability fixes:
- Tap the bubble or panel button again to cancel a stuck transcription
- 45-second timeout instead of silently waiting 2 minutes
- 'Still working' notice after 15 seconds
- Accurate Whisper model by default, switchable to the fast model in the app
Promptly v1.0.0
First release of Promptly for Android.
- Floating button (white circle, black box) — drag anywhere, tap to record
- Quick settings panel buttons: record and show/hide
- Battery-friendly: fully asleep when the bubble is hidden
- Accurate Whisper model by default (switch to fast model in the app)
- Download app-release.apk and install it on any Android 8+ phone
