niri-zoom v0.1.0

An external Ctrl+scroll magnifier for niri (Wayland). No compositor patches needed.

Features

  • Zoom in/out with Ctrl + Scroll Up/Down — smooth, frame-rate-independent animation (works correctly at 60 Hz, 144 Hz, 240 Hz)
  • Instant reset with Ctrl + Super + Z
  • Capture-once architecture — takes a single screenshot on activation, then pans/zooms from that cached frame at ~0% CPU
  • Crisp rendering on fractional-scale outputs via wp_viewporter
  • Wait cursor while zoomed so it's obvious the overlay owns input
  • On-screen zoom badge (e.g. 1.75x)
  • Smooth entry and exit animations — overlay animates in from 1× and animates back out before closing
  • Lazy surface creation — no layer-surface mapped at idle, so OBS/screen-capture tools are never blocked

Installation
