Stratum v0.1.0 — Your assets. Every version. Always yours.

The first public release of Stratum, a local-first, versioned, searchable asset vault for game studios. Free and open source, dual-licensed under the Stratum Community License or Apache-2.0.

Stratum keeps every version of every texture, map, model and source file, finds assets by what they look like, and works fully offline — no accounts, no telemetry, no cloud.

.sig files are the signed updater payloads — keep them alongside the installers; installed builds update themselves automatically from the signed release feed.

Highlights

Asset vault

  • Open an existing folder, create a new space, or join a teammate's.
  • Automatic background versioning with Git — every change becomes a version, with no commits or commands to learn.
  • Drag-and-drop import anywhere in the window; SQLite index at <vault>/.stratum/index.db.
  • Thumbnails for raster images, SVG vector maps and PSD files.

Find and organize

  • Visual Library (grid/list), sort by recent, name or largest, filter by type and tag.
  • Keyword search plus local-AI search by meaning via Ollama — LLaVA tags images and nomic-embed-text powers semantic search. Nothing leaves your machine.
  • Editable, syncable tags (.stratum-tags.json).

Versioning and team sync

  • Per-asset history with author and time, side-by-side preview of any older version, and restore-as-new-version.
  • Sync through a shared bare Git repository on a NAS, LAN, VPN or WAN; offline-safe queueing and background sync every 120 s.
  • Conflict-safe merges — a teammate's edit is saved beside yours, nothing is overwritten.
  • Optional Git LFS for Gitea, GitLab and GitHub.

Experience

  • First-run wizard, a safe 60-second tour, Ctrl+K command palette and keyboard shortcuts.
  • Six languages: English, Spanish, Russian, Hindi, French and German.
  • Light, dark or system theme, and signed in-app auto-updates.

Requirements

  • Git — required (Stratum runs the git CLI).
  • Ollama — optional; powers auto-tags and search by meaning. Without it, everything else works and search falls back to keywords.

You don't have to install Git or Ollama yourself — the Windows setup and the app's first-run check offer to download and install them for you.

Verifying your download

Installers are built in public CI and ship a Software Bill of Materials and SLSA build-provenance attestations you can verify:

Notes

  • macOS builds are ad-hoc signed (builds run; a Developer ID / notarization is planned).
  • Version history lives with your files — it is not a backup. Keep independent backups.

Dual-licensed — use Stratum under the Stratum Community License or the OSI-approved Apache License 2.0, at your choice. Free to use, study, modify and share. See LICENSING.md.

Stratum is a product of Arkynox, developed by Akkil M G (@AkkilMG). Built on Tauri 2 and Ollama, versioned with plain git.
