Assembling ALX PC

ALX PC is assembled from individual components using Advanced Duplicator 2.

There are two recommended configurations:

  • Full PC - complete configuration. Requires at least 50 Wire plugs/sockets.
  • Minimum PC - reduced configuration for multiplayer servers with lower Wire limits.

Getting Started

  1. Get the Advanced Duplicator 2 tool.
  2. Open the alx_pc_readonly (Workshop) or alx_pc folder inside the Advanced Duplicator 2 folder.
  3. Open the parts folder.

Additional Resources

1. Full PC

  1. Spawn the case.
  2. Spawn the motherboard.
  3. Unfreeze the motherboard with the Physgun.
  4. Move it into the case and align around 3 motherboard sockets with the corresponding case sockets.
  5. Freeze the motherboard in place.

Minimum PC

  1. Spawn only the motherboard.
  2. Go to the back side of the motherboard.
  3. Remove the three unused plugs to avoid exceeding the Wire plug limit.

2. CPU

  1. Spawn the cpu.
  2. Grab it by the board part with the Physgun, not by the props or E2 chip.
  3. Unfreeze it and move it over the CPU socket.
  4. When the yellow connection line appears, press the right mouse button, then release both mouse buttons.
  5. The CPU should move into the socket and remain attached.

3. GPU

  1. Spawn the gpu.
  2. Unfreeze it with the Physgun.
  3. Move it into the appropriate PCI-E socket in the left-middle part of the motherboard (black socket) until the yellow connection line appears.
  4. Freeze it in place.

4. HDD Controller

  1. Spawn an HDD Controller.
  2. Use the 4-port controller for the Full PC configuration or the 2-port controller for the Minimum PC configuration.
  3. Connect it to the appropriate socket on the motherboard:
    • 4-port controller to black PCI-E socket
    • 2-port controller to white PCI socket

5. Other Components

  1. Switch to the devices folder.
  2. Spawn an HDD and place it inside or near the PC. Freeze it in place.
  3. Spawn an EGP Screen and place it near the PC.

Optional Components

  • Spawn the sound card and connect it to an available PCI socket.
  • For the Full PC configuration, you can also add the USB and network controllers.

6. Cables

  1. Switch to the cables folder.
  2. Spawn an hdmi cable and connect the EGP Screen to the GPU.
  3. Spawn a sata cable and connect the HDD Controller to the HDD.

Full PC

  • Spawn frontpanel buttons cable.
  • Connect the frontpanel buttons cable between the motherboard and case front panel (red sockets).
  • Connect another sata cable between the HDD Controller and the case front-panel SATA port.
  • If a USB controller is installed, connect the frontpanel usb cable between the controller and case front panel (blue socket on the USB controller).

Minimum PC

  • Spawn two Wire buttons without the Toggle option enabled.
  • Remove the red front-panel socket near the BIOS chip on the motherboard (right-bottom side of the board).
  • Connect the Power input on the motherboard BIOS chip to one button for Power.
  • Connect the Reset input on the motherboard BIOS chip to the second button for Reset.

Keyboard and Sound

  • If a sound card is installed, spawn a Speaker (parts folder) and connect it to the sound card.
  • Spawn a PS/2 Keyboard (devices folder) and connect it to the purple keyboard socket on the motherboard (the top-left socket, before any other sockets).

The PC is now ready to boot.

Booting and Installing OS

  1. Switch to the devices/cd drives folder and spawn a BDXL-RE drive or Mini-BD-ROM drive.
  2. Connect the CD drive to the front-panel eSATA port or directly to the HDD controller.
  3. Switch to the discs folder and spawn the alxos_setup disc.
  4. Start the PC and enter the BIOS by pressing DEL during boot.
  5. Select the CD drive as the boot device using the arrow keys.
  6. Press F8 to save the BIOS settings and reboot.
  7. If everything is configured correctly, the ALX OS installer will start after reboot.
  8. Create a WM1 filesystem on the HDD.
  9. Install the OS to the HDD.
  10. After installation, reboot the PC. If everything is configured correctly, the PC will boot from the newly installed OS.

Congratulations! ALX PC is now ready to use.
