IceTop v0.1.5: Color Schemes, Linux Icon Fix & Settings Docs
February 21, 2026 · Alex Merced
IceTop v0.1.5 brings customizable color schemes, a critical Linux icon fix, and expanded in-app documentation.
🎨 4 Color Schemes
IceTop now ships with four built-in themes, selectable from Settings → Theme:
| Theme | Description |
|---|---|
| Dark | Deep navy #0A1628 with warm yellow/orange accents |
| Light | Clean white/gray backgrounds with yellow/orange accents |
| Iceberg | Light blue backgrounds matching the IceTop icon, navy accents |
| Midnight (default) | Deep dark #0D1117 with cool blue #58A6FF accents |
Theme changes apply instantly — no restart required. Buttons, focus rings, text selection, and scrollbars all adapt to the selected theme.
🐧 Linux Icon Fix
The application icon was not appearing on Linux .deb installs due to a file format issue — the icon files were JPEGs disguised as PNGs. All icon files have been regenerated as proper PNG images (512×512 and 256×256 RGBA), which should resolve the issue for taskbars, docks, and application launchers.
📖 Settings Documentation
A new Settings page has been added to the in-app Docs panel, covering:
- Theme selection and descriptions
- LLM provider configuration (OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini)
- Database backend options (SQLite, PostgreSQL)
- PyIceberg config path and Python path
- Global catalog selector in the status bar

IceTop v0.1.4: Snippet Library, Global Catalog Selector & More
February 20, 2026 · Alex Merced
IceTop v0.1.4 is here! This release focuses on improving the developer experience with a draggable snippet library, a global catalog selector, and several quality-of-life improvements across the application.
🧩 Notebook Snippet Library
The Python Notebook now includes a built-in Snippet Library — a collection of 13 pre-written IceFrame scripts organized into three categories:
| Category | Snippets |
|---|---|
| Query | Read Table Data, Query Table Metadata, Table Statistics, List Namespaces, List Tables |
| Table Management | Create a New Table, Upload CSV/JSON/Parquet to New Table, Append Data to Table |
| Maintenance | Rollback Table to Snapshot, Run Compaction, Expire Snapshots |
Each snippet is fully self-contained with the necessary imports and uses the pre-connected ice (IceFrame) object. Simply drag any snippet from the sidebar into a notebook cell to get started — no boilerplate required.
🔀 Global Catalog Selector
Previously, the active catalog was hardcoded. In v0.1.4, the application dynamically reads all catalogs from your ~/.pyiceberg.yaml and lets you switch between them from the status bar at the bottom of the window. Changing the catalog here automatically updates:
- Chat — AI agent queries run against the selected catalog
- Notebook — Cell execution targets the selected catalog
- SQL — Queries execute on the active catalog
The first catalog in your config is selected by default on launch.
🔧 Additional Improvements
- Help → About IceTop: Moved the "About" information from Settings into a dedicated window accessible from the Help menu. Includes links to Alex Merced's books and Dremio.
- Dremio CTA: Added a "Get Free Catalog" button in the sidebar linking to Dremio's free trial.
- Cleaner Drag & Drop: Table names dragged from the Data Explorer no longer include the catalog prefix (e.g.,
my_namespace.my_tableinstead ofmy_catalog.my_namespace.my_table), since the catalog is managed globally. - Linux Icon Fix: The application window now displays the correct IceTop icon on Linux instead of a generic placeholder.
