Slate Terminal 0.8.0

  • Choose files and folders with native upload dialogs in browser and plugin panes.
  • Download attachments, generated files and other browser downloads through a native save dialog. Track progress or cancel from Downloads in the toolbar or command picker.
  • Use JavaScript alerts, confirmations and text prompts in browser and plugin panes.
  • Open login and other popup flows in separate browser windows while retaining their opener and session. Private-browser popups share only their originating private session.
  • Control uploads, downloads, dialogs and popup windows through the shared API, CLI and trusted plugin bridge, with stale-request protection.
  • Find Refresh Browser in the command picker, or use Command-R.
  • Keep restored terminal output in ordinary scrollback. Remove the separate previous-output viewer and its Show/Clear commands and history-read/export APIs.

Requires Apple Silicon and macOS 27 or later. Popup support does not bypass websites that restrict embedded browsers. Restored terminal output remains historical text and never replays commands.

Slate Terminal 0.7.0

  • Restore saved terminal output directly above the new shell prompt, with normal scrolling, selection and search. Output retention now lives in General settings when workspace restoration is enabled.
  • Create App shows a live icon preview and uses the native save dialog to choose the app’s name and location.
  • Restore a layout app’s windows to its saved layout from the command picker or CLI. Running processes require confirmation, and private settings, browser data and plugin data are retained.
  • Enable or disable inherited plugins independently in each layout app. Local choices survive parent synchronization and restart.
  • Layout-app Settings clearly disable recipe editing while keeping tabs and panes available for inspection.
  • Remove stored website data with a trash button on each site row, or use Clear All Site Data.
  • Place browser agent indicators closer to the bottom bar and improve bundled agent guidance for keeping pane activity visible.

Requires Apple Silicon and macOS 27 or later. Restored terminal output is historical text; it does not resume old processes or replay commands.

Slate Terminal 0.6.0

  • Turn saved layouts into independent Mac apps with their own windows, terminal sessions, browser profiles, and plugin data. Their settings and plugins follow Slate Terminal, with local setting overrides.
  • Manage layout apps from Settings or the CLI. Apps keep a stable identity while applying compatible runtime updates from Slate Terminal.
  • Keep previous terminal output across relaunch and inspect it in a read-only history viewer. Configure how much output to retain.
  • Customize agent accent colors in Settings, including colors for your own agent names. Ordinary activity now uses the same breathing diamond as explicit holds, with a static indicator for Reduce Motion.
  • Improve update confirmation, plugin synchronization, and responsiveness during layout-app creation and refresh.

Requires Apple Silicon and macOS 27 or later. Each layout app has separate macOS permissions. Existing shortcut launchers continue to open their saved layout in Slate Terminal; create a new app to use independent sessions.

Slate Terminal 0.5.0

Slate Terminal 0.5.0

Keep working while agents arrange the workspace, with quieter activity indicators and adjustable pane dimming.

Workspaces

  • Automation preserves your active pane, tab and window when creating splits, tabs or windows, moving background panes, or opening saved layouts.
  • Background layout changes preserve keyboard focus in Settings and existing editors.
  • Adjust unfocused-pane dimming in Settings → Appearance. The default is 8%; set it to 0 to turn dimming off.

Agent activity

  • Agent names stay stable without changing pane-ID suffixes.
  • Holds use a centered breathing diamond without a text label. Reduce Motion keeps the diamond still.
  • Activity outlines follow rounded window corners, and success checkmarks use a neutral color.
  • Agent guidance clarifies identity across fresh tool shells, focus preservation, and use of Slate's browser for previews and browsing.

Automation compatibility

Structural commands now preserve focus by default. Scripts that intentionally select newly created content should request focus: "new"; pane moves should request focus: "target". The CLI exposes these as --focus-policy where applicable. Explicit focus commands and native keyboard/menu actions retain their intentional selection behavior.

Requires Apple Silicon and macOS 27 or later. Updates require an explicit Install and Relaunch confirmation.

Slate Terminal 0.4.0

Find a tab with the new Show All Tabs command, and manage stored browser data directly in Settings.

Workspaces

  • Open the native tab overview from the command picker by searching for Show All Tabs. It is also available in the Workspace and Window menus and can be assigned a keyboard shortcut.
  • Unnamed tabs now display New Tab.
  • Choose your default working directory with a folder picker in Settings.
  • Agent focus indicators blend when multiple agents target the same element.
  • Agent activity now appears for asynchronous terminal commands and additional pane actions. Asynchronous command indicators stay visible until the command finishes.
  • Fixed terminal start --shell rejecting its shell-language assertion.
  • Improved shell reporting under strict Bash settings and stopped leftover report helpers after their shell exits.

Browser

  • Settings lists sites with stored shared browsing data. Remove a selected site's data even when that site is no longer open.
  • Automation can inspect stored sites with browser.listData and remove a site's data with browser.removeSiteData.

Requires Apple Silicon and macOS 27 or later. Updates require an explicit Install and Relaunch confirmation.

Slate Terminal 0.3.0

@github-actions github-actions released this 19 Oct 10:10

Slate Terminal 0.3.0

New splits open in the directory you are working in, with more control over tabs, panes, and browser data.

Workspaces

  • New terminal splits inherit the current directory of the terminal being split. Choose a default directory or turn off inheritance in Settings.
  • Rename tabs from their native context menu.
  • Restore a maximized pane with a button in its header.
  • Keep your place in the command picker while commands refresh in the background.
  • Saved-layout previews stay in place when toggling pane bars, and clicking empty pane-header space no longer starts renaming.

Browser and agents

  • Clear all shared browser data or data for a selected site from Settings. Private Browser panes and plugin storage remain separate.
  • Agent activity indicators stay visible longer and follow newly created splits.

Requires Apple Silicon and macOS 27 or later. Updates require an explicit Install and Relaunch confirmation.

Slate Terminal 0.2.1

Slate Terminal 0.2.1

This release adds terminal search and history tools, restores more of your workspace, and improves how agents work with Slate.

Terminals and workspaces

  • Find text in a terminal and retrieve or export retained scrollback.
  • Keep Bash command tracking working with history disabled and strict-mode startup settings.
  • Reopen workspaces with their working directories, browser locations, and window positions.
  • Edit saved layouts with clearer pane previews and per-pane working directories, then reopen them through dedicated launchers.
  • Get started with a responsive SLATE welcome banner and clearer onboarding controls.

Agents and plugins

  • Start tracked terminal operations, reconnect to check their status, and wait for results without losing the operation when a client disconnects.
  • Inspect complete machine-readable contracts for the shared API and commands, including in-app updates.
  • Plugins can declare required API versions and capabilities. Slate checks compatibility before running them.

Automation behavior changes

terminal.capture now returns the active screen. Use terminal.history when you need retained scrollback.

A terminal.run timeout or client disconnect ends the wait; the operation remains tracked and the pane stays busy until it settles. Submission failures are recorded as submissionFailed. Operation handles last for the current app and terminal session; they are not restored after restarting Slate.

Updating

Updates still require an explicit Install and Relaunch confirmation. Release notes are now shared between GitHub and the in-app update window.

Requires Apple Silicon and macOS 27 or later.

Slate Terminal 0.1.0

The first release of Slate Terminal brings terminals, browser panes, and custom tools into one native macOS workspace.

Your workspace

  • Arrange terminals and browser panes in tabs and splits.
  • Save layouts with working directories and reopen them from dedicated launchers.
  • Add custom panels, commands, and background services with plugins.
  • Control the workspace through the CLI and shared automation API.

In-app updates

Choose Check for Updates… from the Slate menu to read release notes and download an update. Slate verifies the download before offering Install and Relaunch. Installation starts only after you confirm; closing the update window or quitting Slate does not install a staged update.

This release establishes the update channel. Future releases will appear here once they are published.

Requires Apple Silicon and macOS 27 or later.
