Developer resources for EarthNG 0.4.0. Players should use the three-download player release.

  • earthng-developer-assets.zip: distributable texture sources, art and offline basemap for rebuilding the native planet.
  • earthng-source.zip: source snapshot a199ee5, including the player packaging script.
  • earthng_liechtenstein.zip: small map for development and quick smoke tests.
  • Licenses, third-party notices and SHA-256 checksums are included.

Extract source and developer assets into the same folder; follow README.md. These files are not needed to play. The prerelease marker keeps this auxiliary download separate from the latest player release.

Drive through real places in BeamNG.drive. This experimental native release uses Lua ZIP mods; no companion server is needed.

No generation is needed: download a country ZIP and put it in mods. If Drive wraps several downloads in another ZIP, extract that outer wrapper and keep the individual mod ZIPs packed. Always download the current earthng_planet.zip from GitHub, even if the Drive folder also has a planet ZIP.

Ukraine exceeds GitHub Releases' 2 GiB per-file limit, so the complete ZIP is hosted on Google Drive. For a smaller first download, Albania (225.8 MB) remains available below as an alternative.

Play the demo

  1. Use the BeamNG launcher to locate your user folder. Copy both native ZIPs into its mods directory.
  2. Restart BeamNG, then open Freeroam → EarthNG - Planet.
  3. Choose a point in your installed country and land there. The Ukraine pack has a default landing in Kyiv: 50.4501, 30.5234. The smaller Albania alternative was smoke-tested in Tirana: 41.3275, 19.8187.

Remove an old companion-era earth2road_world.zip if present. To uninstall, remove the EarthNG ZIPs from mods. Tested with BeamNG.drive 0.39.4 on Windows; the game is required and is not included.

Make another map

Install Python 3.13 for Windows with Tcl/Tk and the Python launcher. Extract EarthNG-MapBuilder.zip, then double-click MapBuilder.bat. Its first run installs dependencies. Select your BeamNG user folder, choose a region or draw an area on the map, and click Build my own. Keep the planet mod installed for the offline map, city search and previews. The archive includes README.txt, a Download ready maps (Google Drive) button and one-click installation of the smaller Albania pack.

An internet connection is required for setup and new data. Large regions can take hours and many GB of disk space. If setup fails, run Setup.bat to read the error.

Validation and limits

The extracted Map Builder passed 50 focused tests. Albania loaded and completed a 148 m physics drive with no functional test failures. The performance gate did not pass: 2 of 918 driving frames exceeded 100 ms, with a 167 ms worst frame. OSM completeness, visual detail and performance vary by location and hardware. Multiplayer compatibility has not been validated.

Code: MIT. Country data credits OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL); third-party notices cover the other data and assets. Release packaging assisted by OpenAI Codex.
