Linesmith 4.6.4

Choose a tag to compare

@Algo1493 Algo1493 released this 05 Oct 21:03

Linesmith 4.6.4 is a small security update to 4.6.3.

  • Licence keys belong to Linesmith: a key is accepted only for the Linesmith licence on Polar.
  • Nothing is compiled during setup: the three packages that PyPI offers only as source code are now installed as prebuilt, hash-pinned files, so setup no longer downloads unverified build tools.
  • Private data folder on Linux: projects, models and setup logs are readable only by your user account.
  • No way back to unsigned updates: versions before 4.6.3 (which do not check update signatures) are no longer offered in the update settings.

Updating: Linesmith 4.4 and later update themselves to 4.6.4 when you close the app (from 4.6.3 it downloads only a few hundred KB). From 4.3 or earlier, download and run this release once.

Downloads and SHA-256 checksums are attached below.

Linesmith 4.6.3

@Algo1493 Algo1493 released this 05 Oct 20:07

Linesmith 4.6.3 is a security update.

  • Signed updates: the update list is now signed with an offline key. Linesmith refuses an unsigned or altered list and only downloads updates over HTTPS from algowisp.com, so control of the download server alone can no longer push code to your computer.
  • Verified installs: setup installs Python packages only from hash-pinned lists (the exact versions we test), and FFmpeg only as one pinned build whose checksum is verified. Updating from 4.6.x downloads nothing extra.
  • Fixes: burned-in subtitles work again when the Windows user folder contains an apostrophe.

Updating: Linesmith 4.4, 4.5 and 4.6 update themselves to 4.6.3 when you close the app. From 4.3 or earlier, download and run this release once.

Linux requirement: the AppImage needs glibc 2.34 or newer (Ubuntu 22.04, Debian 12, Fedora 35 and later). This was already true for earlier versions; the documentation now says so.

Downloads and SHA-256 checksums are attached below.

Linesmith 4.6.2

Choose a tag to compare

@Algo1493 Algo1493 released this 05 Oct 19:07

Linesmith 4.6.2 is a small update to 4.6.1.

  • Licence checks hardened: the free trial and licence state can no longer be reset or unlocked by deleting or editing local files, and a licence activation now belongs to the computer it was made on. Nothing new is sent to Polar; existing licences keep working (the app re-checks the key with Polar once after updating).
  • Editor: adding languages, summaries, questions and dubbing in the editor now follow the same free-trial rule as new videos.

Updating: Linesmith 4.4, 4.5 and 4.6 update themselves to 4.6.2 when you close the app. From 4.3 or earlier, download and run this release once.

Downloads and SHA-256 checksums are attached below.

Linesmith 4.6.1

@Algo1493 Algo1493 released this 05 Oct 17:15

Linesmith 4.6.1 is a small update to 4.6.0.

  • Terms screen in the app's colours: the terms, privacy and third-party documents are now shown on the app's dark background instead of a bright white page. The documents themselves are unchanged, so nobody is asked to accept them again.
  • Linux setup: downloading FFmpeg from our server failed and fell back to GitHub on some first installs; it now downloads from our server again.

Updating: Linesmith 4.4, 4.5 and 4.6.0 update themselves to 4.6.1 when you close the app. From 4.3 or earlier, download and run this release once.

Downloads and SHA-256 checksums are attached below.

Linesmith 4.6.0

@Algo1493 Algo1493 released this 05 Oct 15:43

Linesmith 4.6.0 makes dubbing use far fewer requests and brings the new voice closer to the original performance.

  • One request for a whole scene: Gemini now reads the whole script in one request, including two-speaker scenes. Extra takes are read inside that same request, so 3 takes is now the default for Gemini and costs no more requests. A line is no longer asked for again just because it ran long.
  • Lines are found on your computer: Linesmith finds every line in the generated speech with a word-timing model for the dubbing language. The first dub into a language downloads that model once (about 1.3 GB for Turkish).
  • Timed to the lips: each phrase is placed where the original speaker's mouth moves and gently stretched to fit, including whispered lines.
  • Closer emotion: the acting notes name how loud each line is and describe the scene, so the voice plays the characters. Quiet, breathy lines are no longer treated as shouts.
  • Reading check: a line that was skipped, or read with words added or left out, is noticed and asked for once more on its own.
  • ElevenLabs, OpenAI and Microsoft Azure also dub a whole script in one request: ElevenLabs v3/v4 read every voice in one dialogue request with short audio tags (Eleven v4 is now in the model list), OpenAI gets each line's direction, and Azure reads every line in one request with its time and a speaking style when the voice has one. On these services extra takes still use characters.
  • Privacy: when another service speaks the dub and a Gemini key is set, Gemini can listen to the original speech to write acting notes. Linesmith asks before sending it, and the privacy notice (version 2026-10-05.2) describes this. Because the notice changed, you will see the terms screen once more.

Updating: Linesmith 4.4 and 4.5 update themselves to 4.6 when you close the app. From 4.3 or earlier, download and run this release once.

Linesmith 4.5.0

@Algo1493 Algo1493 released this 05 Oct 10:53

Linesmith 4.5.0 adds terms of use and shows you what a cloud feature will send before it sends it.

  • Terms of use: On first start, Linesmith shows the terms and privacy information (English and Turkish) and asks you to accept them once. If you already have a licence, you continue under the terms of your purchase. You can read or save the documents at any time in Settings.
  • Before anything goes to an AI service: Translation, summaries, chat, dubbing, voice previews and creating your own voice now show the provider, the address and the kinds of content that will be sent, and ask once for each destination and purpose. You can reset these choices in Settings.
  • Offline mode now also stops cloud dubbing and voice creation.
  • Word timing models: French, German, Spanish and Italian word timing now uses Apache 2.0 licensed models. The first time you use one of these languages, a larger model is downloaded (about 1.3 GB for French).
  • Third-party notices: Full licence texts for the included open-source components are now part of the app. Optional Hugging Face telemetry is turned off.
  • Gemini dubbing asks Google not to store each dubbing request (store: false).

Updating: Linesmith 4.4 updates itself to 4.5 when you close the app. From 4.3 or earlier, download and run this release once.

Downloads and SHA-256 checksums are attached below.

Linesmith 4.4.0

@Algo1493 Algo1493 released this 03 Oct 21:10

Linesmith 4.4.0 adds automatic updates on Windows and Linux, plus a clearer Windows setup window.

  • Automatic updates: New releases download in the background and install when you close the app. You can also choose Restart and install. Your settings, licence and projects are preserved.
  • Your choice of version: In Settings → Updates, turn automatic updates off, stay on a specific version, or return to an available earlier release. Update downloads resume after interrupted connections and are checked against their SHA-256 checksums before installation.
  • Windows setup window: First-run setup now shows each component, download progress, speed and remaining time in a native window, without opening a command window. Stop, retry and repair controls are available.
  • FFmpeg downloads: Windows and Linux setup now use our Cloudflare download source first, with checksum verification and a fallback source if needed.
  • Fixes: More reliable setup time estimates, corrected FFmpeg fallback handling, and clearer messages when an existing subtitle is already in the target language.

Updating from 4.3 or earlier: Download and run this release once to enable automatic updates. If you later return to a version before 4.4, upgrade manually from the website to get automatic updates again.

Windows 10/11 (64-bit): Linesmith-Setup.exe
Linux (x86-64): Linesmith-x86_64.AppImage (chmod +x, then run)

New in 4.3.0

  • A voice for each speaker: Linesmith finds who speaks each line and gives every person the Gemini voice closest to theirs. Wrong guess? Pick the person or the voice in the editor with one click.
  • Dubbing that follows the performance: Gemini listens to the original scene and notes how each line is spoken (calm, angry, shouting); the dubbed voice follows those notes.
  • Takes: read each line three times and keep the best one (fits its time, closest to the original), or once to save requests.
  • Lines start where the original voice starts and keep its pauses.
  • Speech recognition catches soft lines under music that were skipped before.
  • Japanese and Chinese subtitles break lines in the right places; two-line subtitles are balanced.
  • Setup continues a dropped download instead of stopping.
