myGeeKy 0.7.3: the panel stays where it belongs

@AlsammanAlsamman AlsammanAlsamman released this 07 Oct 20:43

myGeeKy 0.7.3: the panel stays where it belongs

On 0.4.4 or newer? Click Update in the panel. New: download MyGeeKySetup-0.7.3.exe below.

  • Fixed: after a while, the panel could jump to the middle of the screen. Windows moves windows by itself when a monitor sleeps or is unplugged, the PC locks or resumes, or the display settings change. The panel now returns to its edge within seconds, and goes back to its own monitor when that monitor wakes up.

  • A new README with every tab and an animated tour, plus a full guide.
  • A new mygeeky.org.
  • On the Model tab, interest-map labels no longer overlap.

myGeeKy 0.7.1: setup checks what each token can do

@AlsammanAlsamman AlsammanAlsamman released this 07 Oct 19:56

myGeeKy 0.7.1: setup checks what each token can do

On 0.4.4 or newer? Click Update in the panel. New: download MyGeeKySetup-0.7.1.exe below.

myGeeKy uses two different tokens: token 1 is read-only, and token 2 (Signals) can write to your mygeeky-beacon repo only. Setup now checks each one's real permissions, not just whose it is:

  • Token 1 is refused if it can change any of your repositories or follow people, or if it's your Signals token.
  • Token 2 is refused if it can't write to mygeeky-beacon, or if it's token 1 pasted again. You get a warning if it can also write to other repos or follow people.
  • mygeeky auth status shows what each stored token can do.

The checks change nothing on GitHub.

On 0.4.4 or newer? Click Update in the panel. New: download MyGeeKySetup-0.7.0.exe below.

  • 💡 Ideas, problems and questions: click the lamp at the top of the panel (or mygeeky idea "..."). Your browser opens a ready-to-send issue in myGeeKy-ideas; click Submit to send it. Nothing is sent until you do, and no token passes through myGeeKy.

myGeeKy 0.6.1: what myGeeKy knows about you

@AlsammanAlsamman AlsammanAlsamman released this 07 Oct 17:40

myGeeKy 0.6.1: see everything myGeeKy knows about you

On 0.4.4 or newer? Click Update in the panel. New: download MyGeeKySetup-0.6.1.exe below.

The Model tab now shows all of myGeeKy's models, not just the follow-back one:

  • 🧭 Your interest map: an animated constellation, with you at the center, your research field on the inner ring, what you've been into lately pulsing on the middle ring (bigger = stronger), and today's 🔭 new territory drifting on the outer ring. Hover any point to see what it is and why it's there.
  • 🧠 What teaches it: your clicks, follows, stars and forks over the last 30 days.
  • 🔭 Room to explore: how much of every list is kept for new territory, and today's fields.
  • 👥 Who follows you back: the follow-back model, as before.

myGeeKy 0.6.0: research trends and published repos

@AlsammanAlsamman AlsammanAlsamman released this 07 Oct 17:32

myGeeKy 0.6.0: research trends, and the papers behind repos

On 0.4.4 or newer? Click Update in the panel, or run mygeeky update. New: download MyGeeKySetup-0.6.0.exe below.

Tools in research live in two places: papers and GitHub. myGeeKy now connects them, using OpenAlex, the free, open index of the world's papers.

🔬 Research trends (Market tab → Research, or mygeeky trends)

  • 🔥 Rising in your field: recent papers gaining citations fastest (citations per month). Your field comes from your OpenAlex research topics, your Google Scholar interests, and what you've been engaging with.
  • 🛠️ Tools with papers: new tools in your field that link their code on GitHub.
  • 👩‍🔬 People behind the trends: who leads them, with ORCID and OpenAlex links.
  • Click a paper to open it, open its GitHub repo, and see the people working on it.

🟩 The green P: published

Repos with a published paper get a green P, in Repos, the Market and Research, found through the repo's CITATION.cff or README. Hover it for the paper and its citations; click it to open the paper.

myGeeKy 0.5.2: nothing to install first

@AlsammanAlsamman AlsammanAlsamman released this 07 Oct 17:20

myGeeKy 0.5.2: nothing to install first

Windows: download MyGeeKySetup-0.5.2.exe below and click Next → Next → Finish. On 0.4.4 or newer? Click Update in the panel.

The installer now sets up everything myGeeKy needs, just for you and without admin rights:

  • Python: installed if you don't have it, using winget or python.org.
  • myGeeKy and its GUI library.
  • Git: installed automatically when you choose to sync your data across computers, using winget or the official Git for Windows release.

Also: if your private sync repo doesn't exist yet, you get a ready-made link to create it.

myGeeKy 0.5.1: installs on PCs without Git

Choose a tag to compare

@AlsammanAlsamman AlsammanAlsamman released this 07 Oct 17:14

myGeeKy 0.5.1: installs on PCs without Git

Windows: download MyGeeKySetup-0.5.1.exe below. On 0.4.4 or newer? Click Update in the panel.

  • Fixed: on PCs without Git, the installer's "Your data, on every computer" step failed with "[WinError 2] The system cannot find the file specified". That step (private-repo sync) needs Git. It's optional, so it's now skipped by default when Git isn't there, with a link to Git for Windows if you want it later (mygeeky sync init).
  • Clearer errors from every installer step. Problems inside myGeeKy now reach the installer as one readable sentence that names what's missing, and the full technical details go to ~/.mygeeky/setup.log.
  • mygeeky sync checks for Git first and explains how to install it.

myGeeKy 0.5.0: news, learning, and room to explore

Choose a tag to compare

@AlsammanAlsamman AlsammanAlsamman released this 07 Oct 17:04

myGeeKy 0.5.0: news for your field, and it learns what you're into

On 0.4.4 or newer? Click Update in the panel, or run mygeeky update. New: download MyGeeKySetup-0.5.0.exe below.

🗞️ News for your field

A new News tab (and mygeeky news): new preprints and discussions about your interests, from arXiv, bioRxiv and Hacker News, free and constantly updated. Each item says why it's there (matches gwas, fine mapping).

🧠 It learns what you're into

Clicking people, repos and news, and following, starring or forking on GitHub, teaches myGeeKy about your interests. That tunes who it suggests, which repos it shows, what the Market watches, and the News. Recent actions count more, and one stray click won't redirect anything. See what it learned in the Model tab or with mygeeky interests.

🔭 Room to explore

So it never shuts you in a bubble, 20% of every list is kept for new territory: things outside your usual interests, from fields that rotate daily. If one catches your eye, clicking it teaches myGeeKy that the new area interests you too.

Also: the Suggestions tab is now called People.

Your clicks are learned locally (a few terms each) and only sync to your own private data repo. News sends only your search terms to the public APIs.
