Road net coverage analysis OSM
To analyse the coverage of roads in km you can use a tool called osm-lenght-2.pl which can will calculate the kilometer number of roads in an .osm file.
To get one of these files you have to extract a part of the map to analyse for example in josm and save it. (or you can download it on a service like http://extract.bbbike.org/ or http://download.geofabrik.de/europe/switzerland.html.
To get only the content in exact boundaries (josm and others will only download in squares or in hand defined polygones) Download from http://download.geofabrik.de the .pbf of the region containing the boundary, then download a polygon of the boundary on http://polygons.openstreetmap.fr/ . Finally run:
osmosis --read-pbf file="./switzerland-latest.osm.pbf" --bounding-polygon file="geneve.poly" --write-xml file="geneve.osm"
Once generated just run osm-length-2.pl on the file it will give you a list similar to this (Canton de Genève 7.09.2016):
