What's new

• Check Setup: Quire > Check Setup lists what your agent needs to start and the tool each preview and export uses, with the command that installs anything missing. Troubleshooting covers the messages you may see.
• The chat says what the agent is doing: it shows the agent starting, and that a first start downloads it, which can take a minute or two. When the agent cannot start, the chat opens with what it printed, and offers Try Again and Check Setup.
• A first download cut short repairs itself: quitting Quire while it downloaded an agent left a broken copy, and every later start failed with ENOENT. Quire now downloads the agent again by itself, and quitting no longer leaves npm running in the background.
• New agent versions start: when npm's saved list of versions is older than the version Quire asks for (ETARGET), Quire asks npm for a fresh list.

• Check for Updates: Quire > Check for Updates looks for a new version right away, besides the check at start and once a day. It says when you have the latest version, shows when it downloads one, and offers a restart once it is installed. If a check fails, it says why.

What's new

• A nicer look for documents: the Markdown preview, and the web pages and Word files made from Typst, LaTeX and Markdown (preview and export), now share one style: a book face for the text, clean headings, tinted table headers, quotes and code in boxes. Quarto documents keep Quarto's own look.
• The formatting bar wraps onto a second row in a narrow editor, so every button stays in view.
• Quieter previews: PDF, Word and web page previews update without flashing a notice on every save.

Fixes

• When an agent stops, the message now says why (for example, a Node.js older than the 22 the Claude agent needs). An agent that failed at start no longer leaves the status bar at "Starting...".
• Typst headings come out at the right level in Word.
• In the Word preview, bullets and table header rows show as in Word.

What's new

• Preview as PDF, Word or a web page for every kind of document (Typst, LaTeX, Quarto, Markdown). Each kind remembers its choice.
• Export from the preview: the button next to PDF, Word and HTML saves the document in the format the preview shows.
• Zoom: Cmd+= and Cmd+- make the whole window larger or smaller; Cmd+0 goes back.
• The formatting bar puts what does not fit into a menu at its end.
• The Typst preview draws every page of long documents; previews keep their scroll bars in view.

Fixes

• With macOS "smart quotes and dashes" on, agent edits and inserted markup could get curly quotes and long dashes ("en" became “en", --> became —>). Text now stays as written.
• After accepting or rejecting all changes, the "changes to review" mark now goes away.
• Opening a project while the agent was starting no longer shows "The agent stopped."
• Quarto previews no longer rebuild in a loop or show Quarto's temporary files as changes.
