macOS 14+, Apple Silicon Open-Typora-0.13.4-arm64.dmg macOS ZIP
Windows 10/11, x64 Open-Typora-0.13.4-windows-x64-Setup.exe Windows ZIP
Linux x64 Open-Typora-0.13.4-linux-x64.deb AppImage

SHA256SUMS.txt covers all six downloads. Install the new DEB to update the system desktop entry. Custom launchers copied into your home directory may still reference an older installation path and need updating separately.

Fixes

  • Linux desktop launch path. The DEB now installs to /opt/Open-Typora/, avoiding the whitespace in the previous installation directory. The application and desktop label remain Open Typora. A package-owned MIME declaration registers .md, .markdown and .mdown as Markdown and is removed on uninstall. The upgrade test installs the previous public 0.13.1 DEB, upgrades it, and checks that the old executable is removed. Desktop integration is exercised through GIO and KDE MIME association with filenames containing Chinese characters, spaces, #, %, and &.
  • Indentation in code and source mode. Ctrl+[ increases indentation and Ctrl+] decreases it on Windows/Linux; macOS uses Cmd+[ and Cmd+], following Typora's documented mappings. The commands now reach both the full source editor and the active code-block editor. Selected lines change together, fence delimiters stay intact, and each operation remains separately undoable. The same commands are available from the menu in source mode. Existing list indentation, composition guards and read-only protections are retained.

Validation and limits

The new keyboard regression checks lists, code blocks, full source mode, menu actions and undo/redo against the installed Windows/Linux payloads. Linux acceptance additionally validates the installed desktop entry, KDE MIME detection, the real GIO/KDE launch chain and upgrade from the previous DEB. The full desktop, plugin, composition, conversion, workspace and recovery regressions continue to run.

Linux CI runs on Ubuntu 22.04 with KDE launcher components, not a complete Kubuntu 26.04 desktop session. AppImage acceptance exercises the extracted payload; FUSE mounting is not covered. Automated composition is not a substitute for every physical IME candidate window. Plugin support and overall Typora parity remain partial; see the feature checklist.

Open Typora 0.13.1

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 21 Oct 10:44

Open Typora 0.13.1 adds document tabs and split editing, improves long-document rendering, and fixes workspace and untitled-tab recovery bugs.

Independent, unofficial project. Open Typora is not developed, endorsed or supported by Typora. If you can afford it, please buy Typora and support its official developers.

Windows 10/11, x64 Open-Typora-0.13.1-windows-x64-Setup.exe Windows ZIP
Linux x64 Open-Typora-0.13.1-linux-x64.deb AppImage

SHA256SUMS.txt covers all six downloads. The Windows ZIP uses the user profile for preferences and recovery data; it is not a self-contained portable profile.

Changes

  • Document tabs on every desktop platform. Create, switch, close and reopen tabs in the current window. Tabs show unsaved state and full paths on hover, scroll when crowded, support drag reordering, and keep each document's selection, scroll and undo history while switching. Ctrl+Tab / Ctrl+Shift+Tab navigate; arrow keys navigate the tab bar, Alt+arrow keys reorder, and Delete closes its focused tab. Cmd/Ctrl+W closes a tab; Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+W closes the window. Windows/Linux retain Ctrl+T for table insertion and use Ctrl+Alt+N for a new tab.
  • Two-document split editing. Compare and edit two distinct open documents side by side or stacked vertically. Switch the active pane with F6, use independent source/live modes, swap panes, drag the divider, or resize it with arrow keys. Double-click the divider to reset it. Closing a pane keeps its document open. Tab order, active document, split documents, orientation and proportions are saved with the window session. Split editing currently supports two different documents, not two views of the same document. Per-document mode, selection, scroll and undo history are retained in memory while the window remains open; they are not restored across application restarts.
  • Less repeated work during editing. Match parsed blocks through an index rather than repeated full-array searches. Reuse unchanged block DOM and source maps, including shifted task-checkbox positions; invalidate views when references, headings, footnotes or Markdown options change. Initialize an editor only when its document is first shown, and isolate unchanged views from React updates. Markdown parsing remains document-wide, and documents above 300,000 characters still use source mode. See the reproducible component benchmark for the measured scope.
  • Fix workspace and recovery behavior. Unreadable child folders no longer fail the entire file tree; failed root scans retain the previous inventory, and Electron folder switches and refreshes commit in request order. Searches report skipped subtrees. Ignore non-regular Markdown entries and avoid false inventory-limit warnings. Reopening a discarded untitled tab no longer tries to read a null disk path. Interior blank paragraphs and the trailing empty paragraph now retain distinct node IDs, fixing stale Chinese composition text after undo.
  • Keep composition and plugins tied to the active editor. Candidate composition blocks tab switches and structural pane changes. Plugin DOM bindings follow the focused pane when both documents are visible. Preserve the existing read-only, plugin cleanup and source/history protections.

Validation and limits

The desktop workspace suite exercises a 700-paragraph document, lazy editor initialization, unchanged DOM retention, scroll and undo across tabs, editing both panes, independent source mode, actual pointer caret placement, Chromium composition/undo and blocked tab switching, plugin focus, divider controls, reordering, restart recovery, and dirty-tab cancellation/reopening. It runs against installed Windows and Linux packages. Native WebKit additionally exercises tabs, split direction changes, independent modes and pane closing alongside existing composition, plugin and export regressions.

Automated composition does not establish compatibility with every physical IME candidate window. Plugin support remains partial; Node/Electron built-ins, npm dependencies, complete upstream distributions and arbitrary Typora private APIs remain unsupported. All clipboard, conversion, theme and Linux desktop combinations have not been exhausted. AppImage acceptance runs the extracted payload rather than a FUSE mount. Windows binaries are unsigned; macOS is ad hoc signed and not Apple-notarized. Remaining differences are tracked in the feature checklist.

Open Typora 0.12.0

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 19 Oct 15:02

Open Typora 0.12.0 adds header-to-table editing and fixes table pipes and asynchronous plugin cleanup.

Independent, unofficial project. Open Typora is not developed, endorsed or supported by Typora. If you can afford it, please buy Typora and support its official developers.

Downloads

Platform Installer Alternative
macOS 14+, Apple Silicon Open-Typora-0.12.0-arm64.dmg macOS ZIP
Windows 10/11, x64 Open-Typora-0.12.0-windows-x64-Setup.exe Windows ZIP
Linux x64 Open-Typora-0.12.0-linux-x64.deb AppImage

SHA256SUMS.txt covers all six downloads. The Windows ZIP runs without installation; preferences, cache and recovery data still use the user profile rather than a folder beside the executable.

Changes

  • Create tables by typing. Type a standalone header such as | Name | Status | and press Enter. The editor creates the separator and an empty body row, and places the caret in its first cell. Inline header formatting and escaped pipes are retained. Supports up to 30 columns; soft Enter, code and escaped closing pipes do not trigger conversion. Table creation is a separate undo step.
  • Keep literal pipes inside table cells. Typing, pasting and browser composition commits escape literal pipes instead of silently splitting a cell into more columns. Backspace/Delete remove a pipe and its source escape together. Multiline text paste becomes cell line breaks instead of breaking the table. Chinese text, caret position, source/live switching and undo/redo are preserved.
  • Stop asynchronous plugin work after disable. Pending commands can no longer write through the compatibility API or reacquire a read-only lock after their plugin has been disabled or failed. Owned effects are removed before awaiting asynchronous teardown. An old instance cannot unlock its replacement, and late registrations through tracked event/timer helpers are discarded.

Validation and limits

Regression coverage includes header conversion and its undo boundary, table pipe typing/paste/composition/caret/deletion, false-trigger cases, delayed plugin commands, immediate cleanup, and replacement-instance lock ownership. The desktop acceptance suites exercise actual Chromium key input and composition protocols plus source/live switching, automatic saving and undo/redo. The native WebKit suite covers header creation, Chinese pipe input and independent undo under the app's resource scheme. Physical input-method candidate windows are a separate acceptance boundary.

Plugin support remains partial: Node/Electron built-ins, npm dependencies, complete upstream plugin distributions and arbitrary Typora private APIs are unsupported. Plugins are trusted application code; direct global or DOM writes outside owned helpers remain the plugin author's cleanup responsibility. See plugin compatibility.

All physical IMEs, editing positions, clipboards, conversion combinations and Linux desktops have not been exhaustively verified. AppImage acceptance exercises the extracted payload rather than FUSE mounting. Windows builds are unsigned; macOS is ad hoc signed and not Apple-notarized. This release does not establish complete Typora parity; remaining differences are tracked in the feature checklist.

Open Typora 0.11.0

@github-actions github-actions released this 18 Oct 14:25

Open Typora 0.11.0 adds local plugin folders and improves Chinese replacement across paragraph boundaries.

Independent, unofficial project. Open Typora is not developed, endorsed or supported by Typora. If you can afford it, please buy Typora and support its official developers.

Windows 10/11, x64 Open-Typora-0.11.0-windows-x64-Setup.exe Windows ZIP
Linux x64 Open-Typora-0.11.0-linux-x64.deb AppImage

SHA256SUMS.txt covers all six downloads.

Changes

  • Install plugin folders. Select a folder with index.js, index.cjs, or a package.json main entry. Relative JS/CJS modules, JSON configuration and CSS strings are embedded in a managed module, with shared-module caching and circular CommonJS references. Installed plugins work after their original folder is removed and after an application restart.
  • Consistent plugin cleanup on macOS. Both file and folder installations receive the host's tracked timers, matching Windows/Linux. Disabling a plugin stops timers created through those bindings and removes its owned styles.
  • Correct Chinese replacement across paragraphs. Repeated characters no longer shift an IME replacement past the original selection or retain an unwanted paragraph separator. Replacing two paragraphs with the same visible characters remains an undoable source edit. Chinese and emoji commits are retained when the browser replaces an entire paragraph element.
  • Keeps the existing composition guards, candidate cancellation, source/live switching and single-commit undo behavior. The six bundled upstream plugins and six original themes remain available.

Validation and limits

Unit tests cover repeated Chinese selections, emoji, paragraph element replacement, package installation, module caching/cycles, cleanup and invalid paths. Native WebKit checks the actual installed module under the application script policy, including relative JS/JSON/CSS, an undoable Unicode command and timer cleanup. Installed Windows/Linux acceptance exercises the folder picker, enabling/disabling, source removal, restart, and Chromium composition protocols in body/list/table/local-code/source editors and repeated paragraph selections. Physical candidate-window testing is distinct from these automated protocols.

Plugin folders are limited to 64 JS/CJS/JSON/CSS files, 4 MB total, 1 MB each and 8 directory levels. Hidden entries and node_modules are skipped. CSS font/image URLs are not automatically embedded. Node/Electron built-ins, npm dependencies, full upstream plugin distributions and arbitrary Typora private APIs are not supported. Plugins remain trusted application code; direct global or DOM mutations outside owned helpers require plugin-managed cleanup. See plugin compatibility.

All physical IMEs and editing positions, cross-app clipboards, arbitrary conversion combinations, architectures and Linux desktops are not exhaustively verified. AppImage acceptance runs the extracted payload, not FUSE mounting. Windows builds are unsigned; macOS is ad hoc signed and not Apple-notarized. The feature checklist records remaining differences; this release does not establish complete Typora parity.

Open Typora 0.10.0

@github-actions github-actions released this 18 Oct 10:22

Open Typora 0.10.0 improves Chinese composition handling and the community plugin compatibility host.

Independent, unofficial project. Open Typora is not developed, endorsed or supported by Typora. If you can afford it, please buy Typora and support its official developers.

Linux x64 Open-Typora-0.10.0-linux-x64.deb AppImage

SHA256SUMS.txt covers all six downloads.

Changes

  • Chinese candidate commits wait for the final input event before updating the document. Cancelling a candidate creates no empty undo entry; separate commits remain separate undo steps. Cross-paragraph replacement retains the surrounding Markdown.
  • Source and local code editors preserve composition undo groups, and cancelling source composition retains existing redo history. A pending source/live switch waits for commit; mode focus is applied as the visible editor is committed, avoiding stale callbacks that reset keyboard navigation. Hidden documents no longer steal the active editor's selection. Editing preferences and read-only changes wait for composition to finish. Plugins receive the final committed Markdown rather than provisional candidates.
  • IME key 229 and active composition do not trigger host editing or plugin shortcuts. Plugin adapter writes are refused with a notice while composition is pending, protecting the marked text.
  • Adds the pinned, unmodified upstream list-folding plugin. Click the triangle beside a list to fold its remaining items; optional per-document session state survives editor refreshes.
  • Adds Plugin commands, including upstream static/dynamic actions, selection metadata, labels, checked states and disabled actions.
  • Plugin events distinguish file loading from editing, support ordered/once/removable listeners and cross-plugin publishing, and isolate asynchronous callback failures. Dynamic hotkeys support registration, arrays, removal and pause/resume with collision checks. Owned timers and debounced callbacks stop when a plugin is disabled or fails.

Validation and limits

Kernel tests cover delayed final input, cancellation, separate commits, key 229 and cross-paragraph replacement. Native WebKit regressions cover Chinese composition in formatted text, lists and table cells, alongside actual module loading and plugin commands. Installed Windows/Linux acceptance uses Chromium's composition protocol in live text, lists, tables, local code and source mode, including pending mode switches, autosave, undo/redo and plugin-write protection. These protocol tests are distinct from physical input-method candidate-window testing.

Full plugin packages, Node/Electron modules and arbitrary Typora private interfaces are not supported. Session state recording is not a complete replacement for the upstream disk service. Plugins are trusted code; direct DOM writes and arbitrary global aliases remain outside tracked adapter cleanup. Other physical IMEs, all input positions, cross-app clipboards, architectures and Linux desktops are not exhaustively verified. AppImage acceptance exercises its extracted payload, not FUSE mounting. Windows builds are unsigned; macOS is ad hoc signed and not Apple-notarized. See the checklist for remaining differences.

Open Typora 0.9.0

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 18 Oct 05:16

Open Typora 0.9.0 adds selection commands, cross-platform image management, and more complete document imports.

Independent, unofficial project. Open Typora is not developed, endorsed or supported by Typora. If you can afford it, please buy Typora and support its official developers.

Downloads

Platform Installer Alternative
macOS 14+, Apple Silicon Open-Typora-0.9.0-arm64.dmg macOS ZIP
Windows 10/11, x64 Open-Typora-0.9.0-windows-x64-Setup.exe Windows ZIP
Linux x64 Open-Typora-0.9.0-linux-x64.deb AppImage

SHA256SUMS.txt covers all six downloads.

Changes

  • Cmd/Ctrl+D selects a word; Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+D deletes it in one undoable edit. Chinese words and inline formatting boundaries are handled without consuming surrounding syntax.
  • Cmd/Ctrl+L selects a line or table row, Cmd/Ctrl+E expands a formatting scope or selects a table cell, and Cmd/Ctrl+J scrolls back to the selection. Source and local code views support word/line selection and navigation; source scopes follow the syntax tree. Selection remains available in read-only mode.
  • Windows/Linux now support local image copy, move, rename and Trash operations, bulk copy/move, and HTTP image downloads. Existing destination files are never overwritten. Failed batch copies roll back their new files before any originals are moved.
  • Windows/Linux DOCX, ODT and EPUB imports extract embedded media into persistent local storage. Saved imported documents retain their images after restart.
  • Windows imports and image operations accept normal case variations and 8.3 short paths while continuing to reject symbolic-link and junction escapes.
  • Legacy DOC/RTF import on Windows/Linux uses optional LibreOffice plus Pandoc. Older Pandoc 2.x ODT imports also use the LibreOffice bridge to retain equations and table headers. Preferences reports detected converters and explains missing dependencies. macOS retains its native conversion path.
  • Pandoc imports avoid its newer GitHub-specific math syntax so formulas render in the editor. Double-dollar formulas inside paragraphs retain the following text; HTML local images and portable export use the document resource bridge.
  • Both READMEs prominently identify this as unofficial and link to the official Typora purchase page.

Validation and limits

The release workflow runs real Pandoc/LibreOffice DOC/RTF/DOCX/ODT/EPUB conversions, then exercises imports and embedded images in the installed Windows application, installed Ubuntu 22.04 DEB and extracted AppImage payload. It also verifies image copy/download/move and document restart, alongside existing editing, export, recovery, theme, plugin and installer checks. Native AppKit/WebKit and Chromium regressions run locally on macOS.

Converters are optional and are not bundled. Import can change formatting; retain original documents. WMF/EMF images require conversion to PNG/JPEG. AppImage FUSE mounting, other Linux desktops and physical input-method candidates on Windows/Linux remain unverified. Windows builds are unsigned; macOS is ad hoc signed and not Apple-notarized. Full Typora feature, plugin and behavior parity is still in progress; see the checklist.

Open Typora 0.8.0

@github-actions github-actions released this 18 Oct 03:37

Open Typora 0.8.0 — editing improvements and the first Linux packages.

Downloads

Platform Installer Alternative
macOS 14+, Apple Silicon Open-Typora-0.8.0-arm64.dmg macOS ZIP
Windows 10/11, x64 Open-Typora-0.8.0-windows-x64-Setup.exe Windows ZIP
Linux x64 Open-Typora-0.8.0-linux-x64.deb AppImage

Checksums for all six downloads are in SHA256SUMS.txt. No Node.js or Typora installation is required.

What's new

  • Linux x64 DEB and AppImage packages, desktop launcher, Markdown association and single-instance file opening, including file URLs with spaces and Unicode names.
  • Windows/Linux shortcuts now follow the documented platform profile: Ctrl+P for quick open, Ctrl+T for tables, Ctrl+Shift+K/M/Q for code/math/quotes, Ctrl+Shift+1/2/3 for sidebar views, and F3/Shift+F3 for find navigation. Menus, toolbar hints and plugin shortcut reservations use the same mapping. Mac bindings are retained.
  • Tab and Shift+Tab indent every selected list line, including quoted lists, preserve the selection and undo as one operation. Fixed quoted-list outdent consuming the quote prefix's spacing.
  • Local code-block editing now indents/outdents a multi-line selection without replacing the selected code.
  • Cmd/Ctrl+Enter inserts a table row below the current row. Shift+Enter inserts an inline cell break without splitting the Markdown table.
  • Common legacy sequence and flow diagrams render offline and participate in export. Original Markdown is retained. Layout uses Mermaid; unsupported legacy extensions report an error instead of silently omitting content. Compatibility scope.

Validation

86 unit tests and 91 native checks passed. macOS 26.5.2 native WebKit regression covers editing, undo, plugin/background behavior, encoding, PDF pagination and actual Pandoc conversions/reimports; new native checks cover legacy diagrams, quoted-list Tab, table row insertion, cell breaks and exact source restoration. Electron interaction tests additionally exercise multi-line code indentation and portable HTML diagrams with no renderer errors.

Windows CI installs the NSIS build, exercises the installed application, checks Markdown association, and uninstalls while retaining recovery data. Linux CI installs the DEB on Ubuntu 22.04 x64, exercises both the installed DEB application and extracted AppImage payload, then verifies uninstall preserves recovery data. AppImage FUSE mounting and physical input-method candidates on Windows/Linux remain unverified.

Installation and limits

Quit the old app before replacing it. Application updates preserve your documents and configuration.

For Ubuntu 22.04 x64 or a compatible system: sudo apt install ./Open-Typora-0.8.0-linux-x64.deb. Other compatible distributions may use AppImage; see the README for FUSE and extracted execution instructions.

The interface is currently Simplified Chinese. Windows is not code-signed; macOS is ad hoc signed and not Apple-notarized. Additional conversions on Windows/Linux require Pandoc; legacy DOC/RTF import and bulk image file operations remain limited in the Electron host. This independent early-stage project does not yet provide complete Typora feature or behavior parity.

ZIP alternatives and SHA256SUMS.txt are included. No Node.js, Xcode, or Typora installation is required to use the application.

What's fixed

  • Fixed macOS windows that could not be moved by dragging the document title or empty title-bar area. The native AppKit host now handles window dragging directly; Electron-only CSS no longer determines macOS behavior.
  • The drag area follows window resizing. Document selection, sidebar controls and the macOS window buttons remain available.
  • Added native mouse-event routing regression checks for title-bar dragging and for keeping document and control clicks inside WebKit.

Validation

Verified on macOS 26.5.2 (Apple Silicon): a human tester confirmed physical-mouse title-bar dragging, 78 automated tests and 91 native checks passed, and the native WebKit editing/save/export regression passed. The original report was on macOS 27.0.1; that exact system version is not available locally and still needs reporter confirmation.
