Progress Report

  • September 2026:

    • Merged several pull requests in the develop branch of global-workflow, including updates for consistent naming of ecFlow scripts and enhancements to GSI diagnostic staging, as seen in PR #5275 and PR #5266.
    • Removed unnecessary hurricane relocation logic from the tropical cyclone QC job in the develop branch of global-workflow, as documented in PR #5264.
    • Implemented improvements to JTWC bulletin handling and added a fake DBN alert stub for testing purposes, which can be found in PR #5260.
    • Initiated multiple in-progress branches, including global-workflow/bugfix/gaeac6-dtn for converting job script filenames to lowercase and adding module types, as well as global-workflow/feature/CDATE_and_JTWC to standardize date variable naming across workflows.
    • Opened two issues in global-workflow, addressing the need for a C48 ATM forecast-only test on Ursa and the development of an ecFlow suite generator, referenced in issue #5301 and issue #5300.

    • Merged a pull request in global-workflow to fix the OCN product table's sentinel filename issue, resolving issue #5209.
    • Addressed the retention of per-product ATM dependency logs in COM to prevent deletion after each forecast hour in global-workflow.
    • Cleaned up the shared GSI diagnostic staging directory utilized by analysis producer jobs in global-workflow.

    • Added forecast manager configurations in global-workflow PR #4980 to the legacy config directory, ensuring compatibility with existing workflows.
    • Engaged in multiple in-progress tasks in the gfs.v17 branch of GDASApp, focusing on updating COM template variables and removing obsolete subprojects.

    • Merged global-workflow PR #4895 to add informative error messages to all err_exit calls, addressing an issue flagged for GCAFS and removing err_exit calls from ush/ sc.
    • Worked on integrating the forecast manager for GCAFS in task definitions and scripts in the develop branch of global-workflow, including adding a fcst_manager step to config.resources.
    • Continued development in the gfs.v17 branch of global-workflow to enhance error handling in job scripts by adding descriptive messages to err_exit calls and refactoring error handling in tropcy_relocate.sh.

    • Merged global-workflow PR #4754 to enhance timer.sh for direct invocation.
    • Continued work on the develop branch of global-workflow to fix MOM6 output file naming conventions and refactor UFS_det function in the global-workflow/bug/develop-coupled_restart branch.

    • Converted NET/global conversion scripts from Bash to Python in the global-workflow repository, enhancing maintainability and performance.
    • Updated scripts in GDASApp to replace NET-specific environment variables with global equivalents, ensuring adherence to the new naming conventions.
    • Worked on various branches in global-workflow to address bugs and enhance features, including updates to workflow generation and documentation improvements.
    • Opened issues in wxflow and GDASApp to address the need for a Python function to create directories conditionally and to remove outdated preamble sourcing in scripts.

  • February 2026:

    • Merged updates in UFS_UTILS to ensure compatibility with the g-w gfsv17 branch by aligning the ufs_utils submodule with the latest changes.
    • Updated multiple scripts in EMC_verif-global to replace NET-specific environment variables with global naming conventions, enhancing compatibility with the global workflow.
    • Modified scripts in GSI-monitor to adopt the EE2 global workflow naming convention, ensuring full compatibility with the global workflow.
    • Continued work in the GDASApp repository to standardize environment variable naming from HOMEgfs to HOMEglobal across various branches.
    • Progressed on multiple branches in UFS_UTILS to update references from gfs to global, addressing typos and ensuring consistency across the codebase.

  • January 2026:

    • Merged a hotfix to address the missing creation of the cron script for the regular crontab in the workflow setup.
    • Updated the link creation for upp.fd in the link_workflow.sh script to ensure it exists before referencing any files.
    • Implemented an email notification system for Rocoto workflows launched by scrontab, enhancing monitoring capabilities.
    • Refactored the tar archiving logic to a Python-based implementation, improving maintainability and performance in the workflow.
    • Worked on the global-workflow branch to remove the path_exists function and updated the parm/stage/analysis.yaml.j2 file for clarity.
