PocketOS turns a phone browser into a desktop. You get real windows you can drag, snap, and resize on a wide screen, and full-screen apps with gesture switching and an optional split view on a narrow one, swapping live as the device rotates.

Inside the box:

  • Nine apps: Files, Text Editor, Terminal, Code Editor (Monaco), Browser, Calculator, Notes, Image Viewer, and Settings.
  • An IndexedDB filesystem with create, rename, move, copy, delete, device upload, and full export and import.
  • A windowing kernel with z-order, edge snapping, and a per-window error boundary so one app cannot take down the OS.
  • An installable PWA with light and dark themes, an accent color, and a wallpaper picker. The core OS precaches to about 980 KiB and runs offline.

Honest limitations:

  • iOS does not fire the install prompt, so on iPhone you install through Share, then Add to Home Screen.
  • The Monaco code editor is runtime cached, so open it once while online before relying on it offline.
  • The Browser app embeds pages in an iframe; sites that refuse framing show a fallback with an open-in-new-tab button.
  • Folder listings are not virtualized yet, so a folder with thousands of entries renders every row.

Everything is client side. No backend, no accounts, no telemetry.
