ApplyW v1.0.0 — Out of beta

ApplyW has carried a Beta tag since its first release, and LinkedIn's redesigned job search
page was the last thing standing between it and a version number without a qualifier.
Block works there now, the filter toggles stay where you put them, and the Beta tag is
gone from the popup.

What's new

Block a company from the new job search page

Blocking used to mean opening a job first, and it only worked on the classic search page. On
LinkedIn's newer results page there's now a Block button on every job card, next to Hide.

One click and every listing from that company disappears — from this search, and from every
search after it.

It's one click, with no confirmation, so it sits on the card in red rather than sharing
Hide's neutral styling. If you hit it by accident, the blocked companies list in the popup
unblocks in one click.

The filter toggles stay styled

Hide Applied and Hide Viewed were rendering as bare, unstyled checkboxes on the new results
page — recognisable if you squinted, but plainly broken.

Two things are fixed. They no longer borrow LinkedIn's own styling, so a LinkedIn restyle
can't strip them again. And they now come back by themselves after LinkedIn rebuilds its
filter bar — which is exactly what happens when you reach job search from the top navigation
rather than by typing the URL, i.e. the way most people get there. Previously they vanished
for the rest of that page's life.

No longer beta

What 1.0 means here is narrow and worth stating plainly: the feature set is settled, both of
LinkedIn's job search pages are supported, and nothing about how your data is handled has
changed or is going to change quietly. The Beta tag is gone from the popup header.

Worth knowing

  • The Language and Keyword filter panels are still classic-page only. Both need the full
text of a job description, and the new page only loads one when you open a single listing
    — there's no bulk load as you scroll, the way the classic page does it. Filtering on
guessed data would be worse than not offering it. Your saved keywords still filter by job
    title on both pages.
  • Block is placed differently on each page. Classic: inside the opened job, next to the
company name. New: on the card itself. The classic page's placement is the deliberate one
    — you've looked at the company by the time you block it.
  • Nothing you've already hidden, blocked, or configured is affected by this update.

Privacy

Unchanged, and unchanged in substance since 0.1.6. No new permissions — still storage and
nothing else. No backend, no analytics, no account, no network requests of its own, and
nothing about your browsing collected, transmitted or shared. Full detail in the
privacy policy.

ApplyW v0.1.7 — The new job search page

LinkedIn has been rolling out a redesigned job search results page, and handing it to more
people every week. If you got it, ApplyW did nothing on it: no Hide buttons, no toggles,
your filters silently not applying. This release meets LinkedIn on the new page — not
all the way, but most of it, and these notes are specific about which parts.

What's new

ApplyW works on the redesigned results page

The new layout shares almost nothing with the old one — different markup, different
structure, job titles that aren't written down anywhere obvious. ApplyW now reads it.

  • Hide a job — one click, same as always, and it stays hidden across reloads and
searches. The button is a small icon rather than a labelled pill, because the new page's
action row is too tight for anything else.
  • Hide Applied / Hide Viewed — both toggles now sit alongside LinkedIn's own filters on
    the new page too.
  • Your existing settings still apply. Anything you've already hidden stays hidden, and
blocked companies and excluded keywords still filter by job title. Nothing to set up
    again.

Not on the new page yet: blocking a company, and the Language and Keywords filter
panels. This isn't an oversight. Those need the full text of a job description, and the new
page only loads a description when you open a single listing — there's no equivalent of the
bulk load the classic page does as you scroll. Rather than detect language from the job
title and get it wrong, ApplyW doesn't offer it there at all.

A way back to the classic job search

only reach it by typing the URL.

ApplyW now adds a button on that page that goes straight there — which matters more than it
sounds, because the classic page is still where every filter works.

A clearer popup

The popup now leads with the thing you opened it to do: Open LinkedIn Jobs, in a new
tab, in one click. If ApplyW is already filtering the tab you're on, it says so instead of
offering to send you somewhere you already are.

A new name on the Chrome Web Store

ApplyW - LinkedIn Job Filter: Hide Applied & Viewed Jobs, Block Companies. Same
extension, same everything — it was simply impossible to find under a name that said only
"ApplyW".

  • The two pages now behave differently, and that's visible. On the classic page you get
labelled Hide and Block buttons, a language badge and both filter panels. On the new page
you get an icon and two toggles. Same settings underneath.
  • Existing hidden jobs, blocked companies, keywords, languages and metric counts all carry
    over untouched.

Privacy

One thing changed, and it's worth spelling out. ApplyW's scripts now load on LinkedIn
pages generally, rather than only on the job search URL. That's what lets it notice you
clicking through to job search at all — LinkedIn is a single-page app, so moving from the
feed to Jobs never reloads the page, and Chrome only injects scripts on real page loads. A
script that waited for the job search URL would never start.

Loading is not reading. ApplyW still only reads and changes the job search pages themselves;
on your feed, your messages and your profile it does nothing at all.

Everything else is unchanged: no new permissions (still just storage), no backend, no
analytics, no account, no network requests of its own, and nothing about your browsing
collected, transmitted or shared. Full detail in the
privacy policy.

ApplyW v0.1.6 — Which filter is actually doing the work

You've been hiding jobs, blocking companies and filtering by language and keyword for a
few versions now. This release answers the obvious next question: which of those is
actually earning its keep?

What's new

Metrics

ApplyW now keeps a running count of how many listings each filter has taken out of your
results, and ranks them.

  • Every filter, side by side — hidden by you, blocked company, excluded word, missing
required word, language, already applied, already viewed. Shown as a share of the whole
and as a ranked list, so "language filtering saves me more than blocking ever has" is a
thing you can just read off the page.
  • Which words are pulling their weight — expand the excluded-word row to see each word
you've excluded and how many listings it caught. If a word has never matched anything,
    now you know.
  • A listing is counted once, under one reason. Scrolling the same search back and
forth doesn't inflate anything, and the parts add up to the total.

Where to find it: open the popup and press the chart icon next to your cleared-jobs
tally, or go straight to applyw.app/#metrics.

The page asks your own copy of the extension for the numbers, inside your browser. There
is no account, no upload, and no server involved — if you uninstall ApplyW, the page has
nothing to show.

A website, at its own address

ApplyW now has a home page: what it does, a playable demonstration of the filters, and
the metrics page above.

applyw.app — no analytics, no cookies, nothing stored in your
browser.

Worth knowing

  • Counting starts now. The tally begins the first time you use ApplyW after updating,
so expect it to sit at zero for a moment. Everything you hid before this version still
stays hidden — it just isn't counted retroactively.
  • A listing that matches several of your excluded words is counted once in the total, but
once per word in the word breakdown. That's on purpose: they answer different questions,
and the page says so where it matters.
  • This supersedes 0.1.6's predecessor, v0.1.5, which was tagged but never published to the
Chrome Web Store. Everything in it is included here.

Privacy

Unchanged in substance, and now spelled out in more detail in the privacy policy: the counts are
stored locally alongside everything else, only ApplyW's own site may read them, and nothing
about your browsing is collected, transmitted or shared. Still no backend, no analytics,
no account.

ApplyW v0.1.4

Added

  • A full list of your hidden jobs. The popup's hidden-jobs counter is now a browsable list: each entry shows the job title (linking back to the listing), the company, the location, and how long ago you hid it, newest first.
  • Unhide one job at a time. Changed your mind about a single listing? Bring it back without clearing everything. "Unhide all" is still there, and now asks for confirmation first — bringing every job back at once isn't something you can walk back one job at a time.

Changed

  • The popup has been redesigned around the AW logo's angular geometry — its colours, its diagonal cut, and its sharp corners now run through the whole interface.
  • Blocked companies and hidden jobs each get their own screen, reached from the main view, so neither list is cramped.
  • Clearer wording throughout. The per-job action is now called "Unhide", matching the "Hide" button on job cards — it used to say "Undo", which suggested it only reversed your most recent action.
  • Empty lists now tell you what to do. Instead of just reporting that nothing is there, they explain how to hide a job or block a company.
  • A bug icon now sits next to "Report a problem".
  • The privacy policy has been updated to describe exactly what's saved on your device.

Note for existing users

Jobs you hid before this update stay hidden, but they'll appear in the new list without a title, company, or date — that information wasn't recorded before now. Anything you hide from this version onward shows in full.

@chudnovskyi chudnovskyi released this 03 Sep 20:51

ApplyW v0.1.3

Added

  • "Open LinkedIn Jobs" button in the popup — jumps straight to LinkedIn's job search in a new tab, or shows a quick confirmation if you're already there.
  • Search box for blocked companies in the popup — appears once you've blocked more than a few, so you can quickly find one to unblock.

Changed

  • Company blocking moved to the opened job view. The Block button no longer appears on every card in the results list — it now sits next to the company name when you open a job, styled in red with a ban icon so it reads as the bigger, more deliberate action it is. Each card in the list keeps only Hide.
  • LinkedIn's own dismiss ("X") button is now hidden on every card — it was a second, separate hide mechanism that didn't go through ApplyW's own storage. Our Hide button is the only way to hide a job now.

Fixed

  • Reloading/updating the extension while a tab was already open could leave that tab retrying (and failing) repeatedly in the background. This is now detected and stopped cleanly, with a console message to refresh the page.

ApplyW v0.1.2

Added

  • Keyword filter — a new "Keywords" pill next to the Language filter in LinkedIn's own filter bar. Set words a job must include (e.g. "Java") and/or must exclude (e.g. "Junior") to only see listings that match. Checks both the job title and its full description — a match in either counts — whole-word and case-insensitive, so "Java" won't match inside "JavaScript".

Docs

  • Clarified in the README that ApplyW currently works on LinkedIn's job search results page specifically.

ApplyW v0.1.1 — bugfix

Fixed

  • Scoped the extension to LinkedIn's job search results page only (linkedin.com/jobs/search/...). Previously it activated on any /jobs/* path, including pages like /jobs/search-job/ that use a different DOM — the extension's injected controls broke that page's own logic there. It now only loads where it's actually designed to work.
