Release list
0.9.3-beta
Fourth beta. Self-contained builds — the .NET runtime is bundled in, so no separate .NET install should be needed.
What's new
- HamDRM transmit and receive. Send and receive HamDRM digital pictures, the mode EasyPal and QSSTV call DRM. Select HamDRM (EasyPal) at the end of the Transmit mode list and pick a profile (Robust, Normal or Fast). The picture goes out as a JPEG 2000 file. Receiving is on by default (Options → Decode → Receive HamDRM alongside SSTV) and runs next to SSTV receive. A status-bar chip shows the HamDRM mode, the sender's callsign and the segment progress. A received picture appears in the Gallery and the receive history, and the file is saved unchanged in the
drmsubfolder of the RX images folder. Tools → Decode WAV file decodes a HamDRM recording as well.- Interop: tested against the real QSSTV application in both directions, 18 configurations (every mode A/B/E, both bandwidths, 4/16/64-QAM, protection, interleaver and RS levels), all byte-identical. EasyPal interop was confirmed by the maintainer.
- The receiver also recovers two kinds of file that QSSTV's receiver loses or saves corrupt: files whose last byte count wraps (mode A, 64-QAM) and RS2 files with a large surplus. On every AWGN test where QSSTV's receiver completes a file, Scanline Studio completes it too.
- JPEG 2000 uses OpenJPEG 2.5.4, which is included in the download.
- Calling-frequency menu. A menu in the header lists popular SSTV and HamDRM calling frequencies. Picking one tunes the radio through CAT and sets its mode and filter width.
- Separate TX power levels for SSTV and HamDRM.
- Settings safeguard. A failed settings load no longer erases
settings.json, and a backup is kept. - Licence. Scanline Studio is now GPL-3.0-or-later, so that QSSTV's GPL DRM code could be ported. The YONIQ/MMSSTV-derived code stays LGPL-3.0-or-later.

Known limits
- HamDRM has not yet been tested with recordings of real on-air stations, only with the QSSTV application and simulated HF channels.
- The macOS build comes from GitHub Actions and has not been run on real hardware by the maintainer. HamDRM receive was checked on Windows with WAV files from QSSTV.
- Wayland on Linux stays experimental and opt-in (
SCANLINE_WAYLAND=1), unchanged since 0.9.1-beta. See the 0.9.2-beta release notes for its limits.

0.9.2-beta
Third beta. Self-contained builds — the .NET runtime is bundled in, so no separate .NET install should be needed.
What's new
- Report a bug / Send feedback. Two new items in the Help menu open a short form in your web browser. Nothing is sent until you press the form's send button. The form goes to the developer by email through web3forms.com, together with the application version, operating system and .NET runtime version (the form shows these before you send). Your email address is sent only if you tick Can we contact you by email.
- What's new notice. The first start of each new version shows a short notice with what changed. It shows again at each start until you tick Don't show this again for version ….
- Update notification. At startup Scanline Studio asks GitHub whether a newer version exists and, if so, shows a link to its download page. Help → Check for updates… does the same on demand. Beta versions are also told about newer betas. The check contacts
api.github.com, which sees your IP address and the application version; nothing else is sent. Don't show again for version … hides one version, and Never show update notifications stops the startup check completely (it can be turned back on from any Check for updates… result). Without an internet connection, the check reports within a few seconds that it could not connect to GitHub. - Code clean-up. A large internal clean-up of the receive, transmit and template-editor code. No change to decoding or transmitting is intended; parity tests check this.
- Experimental native Wayland on Linux (opt-in, unchanged since 0.9.1-beta, see below).
Running on Wayland (Linux, experimental)
By default Scanline Studio runs through X11 (XWayland on a Wayland desktop). This needs no setting.
To use the native Wayland backend, start it from a Wayland session with SCANLINE_WAYLAND=1:
SCANLINE_WAYLAND=1 ./ScanlineStudio.Host
Remove the variable to go back to X11.
- The compositor must offer xdg-shell version 3 or later. Tested on sway 1.11 and Weston 14. sway 1.9 and labwc 0.7 (and so Ubuntu 24.04's default compositors) offer only version 2 and cannot run it.
- If the native backend cannot start, the app prints a message naming
SCANLINE_WAYLANDand exits. It does not fall back to X11 silently. - The compositor places the window, not the app. Remember window position and size saves and restores the size and maximized state only.
- Weston's kiosk shell (forced fullscreen smaller than the window) closes the app with a protocol error.
- Not tested: the file-picker portal, drag-and-drop of files from other apps, Hyprland, GNOME, KDE, and real input devices.
app_idis empty, so desktop-file and icon matching do not work.

0.9.1-beta
Second beta. Self-contained builds — the .NET runtime is bundled in, so no separate .NET install should be needed.
What's new
- Reception SNR. The receiver now estimates signal-to-noise from the sync pulses of the incoming picture and shows it live. It is on by default and has a toggle in Options. The help guide explains how to read the number.
- QRZ password in the system credential store (Windows and Linux). On Windows the QRZ lookup password is kept in Windows Credential Manager, and on Linux in the system keyring (Secret Service). A password saved by an earlier version moves there automatically at startup. Scanline Studio currently does not use the macOS Keychain, and a Linux session without a keyring has none to use. On both, the password stays in the settings file without encryption. Going back to an older build such as 0.9.0-beta shows an empty QRZ password field, and you must enter the password again. Keyring calls are time-limited, so a locked keyring should not hang Options.
- TX editor. New UNDO ALL and REDO ALL buttons, SAVE and NEW TEMPLATE in the context bar, and a larger TRANSMIT button.
- Gallery. The Gallery no longer re-decodes every thumbnail on each received frame, so it stays responsive while receiving.
- Editor dirty state. Load → Undo → edit now correctly marks the canvas as changed.
- Avalonia 12.1. The UI toolkit moved from Avalonia 11 to 12. A before/after click-through of the main tabs and all Options tabs shows no visible differences on Linux (X11).
- Experimental native Wayland on Linux (opt-in, see below).

Scanline Studio v0.9.0-beta
First beta release. Self-contained builds — the .NET runtime is bundled in, so no separate .NET install should be needed. Confirmed on Linux and Windows (both run with dotnet removed from PATH); not yet independently confirmed on macOS.
- Windows (x64): extract
ScanlineStudio-0.9.0-beta-win-x64.zip, runScanlineStudio.Host.exe. Use this one unless you know you have an ARM64 PC. - Windows (ARM64): extract
ScanlineStudio-0.9.0-beta-win-arm64.zip, runScanlineStudio.Host.exe. For Snapdragon/ARM PCs — native, no emulation. See the CAT note below. - Linux (x64): extract
ScanlineStudio-0.9.0-beta-linux-x64.tar.gz, run./ScanlineStudio.Host. - macOS (Apple Silicon): extract
ScanlineStudio-0.9.0-beta-osx-arm64.tar.gz, run./ScanlineStudio.Host. Intel Macs (osx-x64) aren't built yet.
CAT control on Windows ARM64: Hamlib publishes x64-only Windows binaries, and an ARM64 process cannot load an x64 DLL — so the direct "Hamlib library" backend will not work on the ARM64 build. rigctld and flrig are unaffected: they run as their own process and the app talks to them over TCP, so use one of those for rig control there. The x64 build can use any of the three.
