Highlights

Database and storage improvements are the focus of this release, with significant changes to RocksDB integration and database lifecycle management. Pre-anchor conflict fact reading has been optimized to use RocksDB directly instead of block files, reducing I/O overhead.

Validator lifecycle management has been fixed to properly release database resources on shutdown, preventing potential resource leaks. Changes span the roast consensus subsystem, database core layer, and transaction processing unit.

Testing infrastructure received updates including new failover tests and network testing capabilities. Version has been bumped to 0.8.9 across all components.

Added

  • New database column for storing pre-anchor conflict facts in RocksDB
  • Failover testing capabilities in the testing suite
  • Database resource tracking and cleanup mechanisms in validator shutdown path

Changed

  • Pre-anchor conflict facts now read from RocksDB instead of block files
  • Database lifecycle handling refactored across roast coordinator, replica, and signer modules
  • Transaction tree node structure updated to support new storage patterns
  • Testing suite dependencies and network configuration updated
  • Version bumped to 0.8.9 in Cargo.toml and common/version.rs

Fixed

  • Validator now properly releases database resources on shutdown, preventing resource leaks
  • Database handle management corrected in roast consensus components

Performance and Observability

  • Pre-anchor conflict fact retrieval optimized by reading directly from RocksDB instead of parsing block files, reducing read amplification
  • Database access patterns improved across the roast subsystem for better I/O efficiency

RPC and API Changes

No breaking RPC changes in this release. Internal database API changes are isolated to storage layer implementation.

Breaking Changes

None known.

Migration Guidance

Node operators should perform a standard upgrade. No configuration changes or data migration required. The new RocksDB column will be created automatically on first startup.

Documentation

No documentation changes in this release.
