Sumra 0.2.18
Sumra 0.2.18
- Keep link previews passive so links open with one click, preserve the pointer feedback, and keep previews within the screen. Remove destination circles from ebook navigation.
- Fix AZW3 table-of-contents links and CSS appearing as book text. Preserve large illustrations and their captions in FB2 and MOBI pagination.
- Add one Toolbar Display setting: Always Show, Auto Hide, or Always Hide, shared by Settings and the View menu. Auto Hide reveals controls near the window top and overlays them without moving or repaginating the book, including in full screen.
- Refine toolbar, reading-settings and selection-control transitions, with interruptible fades and support for Reduce Motion. Hidden toolbar space follows the reading theme. Full-screen controls use the native presentation policy so hidden chrome does not cover the first line and the wider hover region reveals controls onscreen.
- Correct comic thumbnail proportions and Finder/Quick Look handling for CBR, MOBI, FB2 and AZW3, keeping their original file extensions.
- Improve large-document search and complete match counting with incremental native scans, accurate result locations and responsive cancellation. Pause background page counting during search, then refresh page numbers without losing result positions. Preserve the selected occurrence across reflow and show the correct results after query changes.
- Fix reading-state, color and navigation regressions found during the broader reader workflow checks.
Thanks to @HomeStarRunnerTron for the detailed examples and feedback in #42.
Sumra 0.2.17
Sumra 0.2.17
- Keep full-page EPUB illustrations at the intended size when enlarging or resizing the reading window, including separate image chapters after the cover.
- Support viewport-relative image dimensions and preserve authors’ explicit small images and size limits.
- Prevent image-only responsive frames from adding an empty page after the illustration.
- Keep the first visible page’s layout independent of an unused cover image in the book metadata, without opening every later chapter in advance.
Sumra 0.2.16
Sumra 0.2.16
- Center EPUB heading decorations and title images that use automatic margins or a sized inline image container.
- Respect explicit image heights and percentage heights with a real containing-block reference, instead of overriding every image to automatic height.
- Keep a publisher logo small when the book already identifies a different image as its cover.
- Prevent an illustration at a page boundary from appearing again on the adjacent page at certain window sizes.
- Fit unsized, image-only sequences to the page in paged reading, keeping their proportions and centering them. Explicitly sized images and mixed text with illustrations retain their authored layout; continuous reading keeps its natural-height flow.
- Keep the same illustration in view when switching between paged and continuous reading in image-only EPUB chapters, including repeated copies of the same image.
- Make Markdown chapter links reach their heading in paged reading as well as continuous reading.
- Include the file name when a document cannot be opened, while keeping the previous document available.
These changes follow the third set of reduced EPUB examples in issue #31. The issue remains open for feedback on the reporter's Mac.
Sumra 0.2.15
Sumra 0.2.15
- Focus interface language choices on 25 common language/region options, with translations for all managed interface labels and instructions.
- Keep older language preferences and exported settings readable: removed interface choices use the system-language fallback.
- Preserve separate top, right, bottom and left margin defaults when exporting and importing settings. Advanced Settings accepts the same 0–200 point margins as the reading controls.
- Reduce repeated language matching when the interface follows the system language. Manual language changes still take effect immediately.
- Show long setting explanations in full and remove a duplicate zoom-increment label.
- Keep the last partial spread at the end of HTML, compatible Markdown and CHM topics, so the next-page command can enter the following chapter in either reading direction.
Document reading and font support remain independent of the interface language list. Native-speaker translation corrections are welcome.
Sumra 0.2.14
Sumra 0.2.14
- Open books directly from Finder when Sumra is closed, without needing a Dock click or leaving an empty Home tab in front of the book.
- Preserve chosen colors and full opacity when clicking a color-dialog heading or text field, or switching to another app and back.
- Restore native text editing and undo in color and theme dialogs, while retaining PDF undo/redo and the reader's configurable Copy and Select All shortcuts.
- Select or type Iowan Old Style and other installed font families in Default Typography, matching the Aa control.
- Center the title decorations in the newly reported EPUBs, recognize more cover declarations, and fit image-only covers to the full available row without changing ordinary chapter pagination.
- Keep the system color picker connected when the selected color is clicked again, and support accessibility activation of color wells.
- Keep advanced margins and CSS with the current book when another document opens in the same window. The settings panel now shows the book's filename.
- Keep the basic margin slider and advanced values in sync, so applying CSS preserves your latest margin change. Press Return in the margins field to apply advanced settings.
- Display saved CSS correctly when the settings panel is reopened or the current book changes.
- Update an open reading-settings panel when the interface language changes, keeping its drafts. Keep fractional margins readable without wrapping the value label.
- Keep System and previously saved retired themes selected when applying an unchanged theme dialog. The five built-in presets remain unchanged.
- Open the visual theme chooser and document color editor directly from Aa.
The color-panel, EPUB cover and multilingual reading fixes from 0.2.13 are retained.
Sumra 0.2.13
Sumra 0.2.13
- Find phrases that continue onto another page in PDF, DjVu and paginated EPUB, with highlights on each page. Japanese and Chinese phrases also stay searchable across line wraps.
- Change fonts, colors, spacing and layout live from the Aa reading-settings panel. Customize keyboard shortcuts and the toolbar, and use the selection toolbar for common text actions.
- Open PDF locations from an editor through the documented macOS SyncTeX URL workflow, including password-protected documents and recompiled files.
- Browse and filter a CHM book's keyword Index.
- Show EPUB and comic thumbnails and paged Quick Look previews in Finder through bundled extensions.
- Preserve reading associations when files are renamed or moved, and load background document tabs when selected.
- Keep password fields masked in the page view and in appearances generated by edits.
- Improve PDF choice fields: multiple selections, duplicate export values, validation, calculations, saved appearances, undo and keyboard/accessibility controls use the same document state.
- Reduce unnecessary work during large Chinese EPUB searches, reuse decoded MOBI text, and bound retained extracted comic data with cancellation between decoder reads.
The cover, color-picker and multilingual PDF-export fixes from 0.2.10–0.2.12 are retained. Large-book full search counts and distant seeks in solid comic archives can still take time. Quick Look provider selection is managed by macOS; complete Acrobat JavaScript compatibility, physical printer output and all older macOS versions are not claimed.
Sumra 0.2.12
Sumra 0.2.12
- Keep shaped words intact when exporting EPUB, HTML and Markdown to PDF. Urdu, Bengali, Sinhala and other complex-script text can now be copied and found after reopening the exported file, without spurious spaces or line breaks inside words.
- Correct a shifted Odia outline in PDF exports when an installed AAT font uses a deleted-glyph marker.
- Include visible continuation outlines in search highlights when a character's text glyph has zero width.
This preserves the original text in the new PDF using standard ActualText metadata. It does not rewrite source books or recover missing word boundaries in older PDFs that lack that metadata.
Sumra 0.2.11
Sumra 0.2.11
- Fit declared EPUB covers to the reading page without stretching, extra blank pages or repeated image fragments. Covers resize and stay centered in single-page and two-page layouts.
- Keep oversized illustrations and their captions together when the book requests it, while retaining surrounding text and cover links.
- Add link color, precise RGB fields and an instant preview to Custom Document Colors. The system color panel closes when applying or dismissing the theme and document-color editors.
- Use the standard macOS color wells so switching between colors does not go through a separate swatch popover.
- Activate Finder file-open requests before waiting for the initial reader window.
Original books are not modified. This follows the reproducible examples shared in issue #31; the issue remains open for the reporter’s confirmation.
Sumra 0.2.10
Sumra 0.2.10
- Fix missing Hebrew glyphs with the default reading font, including bold and italic fallback.
- Load selected system variable-font weights faithfully in reading and exported PDFs, including Kefa III Bold on current macOS.
- Keep active Chinese/Japanese input composition intact when Find or Contents updates.
- Preserve combining marks and ligature letters in viewport copy and assistive reading text.
- Keep authored HTML words intact when glyph spacing would otherwise insert false spaces and break searches.
- Add core interface translations and distinguish a theme's name from the signature-name checkbox. Settings now marks partial translations and explains English fallback.
Language validation covers representative text, mixed direction, font styles,
search, export and native input composition. It is not a claim of complete
Unicode coverage or native-speaker review. See language support.
Some complex-script PDF text still acquires inferred spaces that affect whole-word searches.
Sumra 0.2.9
Sumra 0.2.9 improves reading controls and EPUB cover rendering following issue #31.
- Custom Document Colors and Choose Theme display usable controls. Pure white paper can be selected with the Background color well; Use Theme restores the selected palette.
- Five distinct built-in themes replace the longer preset list: Light (pure white), Light Warm, Dark, Dracula and Gruvbox. Choose Theme previews the palette before applying. Customize saves named text, background and link colors, with color wells and precise RGB fields; saved themes can be edited or deleted. Previously saved preset IDs remain readable.
- The reading Font menu and default typography settings list available installed font families. Typography and CSS accepts a family name such as Iowan Old Style, including supplemental families macOS omits from that list. Install additional font files using macOS Font Book.
- Native reader arrow keys remain in the navigation path during page replacement, so rapid repeated presses continue to navigate. Text entry, sidebar controls and keyboard selection keep their own arrow behavior.
- SVG image and EPUB cover rendering preserve the authored aspect-ratio behavior across window sizes and reading layouts.
Original documents are not changed. The reporter's EPUB was not attached to the issue; representative cover fixtures and local original books are used for validation, and the issue remains open for feedback on the original file.
