UsageNotch for Android 1.4.0 — liquid glass, budgets and a 90-day calendar
UsageNotch for Android 1.4.0 is rebuilt in liquid glass, in the spirit of iOS, and gets budgets, a best time to start, a 90-day calendar and a weekly recap.
Liquid glass
- Cards, the tab bar and controls sample what's behind them, bend it at their edges (Android 13+), blur and saturate it (Android 12+), and catch the light on a specular rim. Soft coloured light drifts behind, tinted by your providers.
- A floating glass tab bar. Its selection is a drop of glass that glides with a spring, stretches with its speed, swells under your finger and can be dragged across tabs.
- A floating status capsule that springs open into a mini dock of rings when you scroll.
- Clean and minimal: the taglines and explanations are gone.
- Android 9 to 11 get the same shapes with a denser tint.
Plan your usage
- Budgets: keep a limit under a percentage, optionally by a time of day ("60% by 6 PM"). A tick marks it on the ring, bar and widget, and the app tells you when you're near it, on pace to pass it, or over it. Usage alerts include budgets.
- Best time to start: when to start a session so it renews in the middle of your usual busy hours, from your PC's history.
- Weekly recap on Sunday evening, from the history on your phone.
History
- A 90-day calendar (with UsageNotch for Windows 2.5).
- Your providers side by side on one chart.
- Daily bars grow in one after another as they scroll in. Tap one and it morphs into that day's card: your average, the day's rank and what your other limits used.
Rings and colours
- Comet-trail rings, a hairline showing the time left before each reset, and a particle burst when a limit renews while you watch.
- Pick an accent colour for each provider. It tints the provider's card, charts and the ambient light. Rings keep the usage colours.
Widgets
- A glass body that lets your wallpaper through, with a specular rim.
- A refresh button from about 2×1 up. It updates straight from your PC with a spinner.
- Larger rings on tall widgets. Budget ticks and time-left hairlines.
Fixes
- Choosing wallpaper colors no longer jumps back to Overview.
- Budgets and colours chosen while exploring sample data are never saved.
Download UsageNotch-1.4.0.apk on your phone. It installs over earlier versions and keeps your pairing. Works with UsageNotch for Windows 2.3 and later; history and pace need 2.4, and the 90-day calendar needs 2.5 (installed copies update automatically). The APK is signed with the same key as before (certificate SHA-256 ddafa1fb472f7ee28c91c7badab1930e5ba9b8a7e78b96ad33bec36798148091).
UsageNotch for Android 1.3.0 — scanner for every phone, history, live countdown
UsageNotch for Android 1.3.0 adds a scanner that works on every phone, your history, pace warnings, a live countdown and a lot of polish.
Scanning fixed
- The QR scanner is now built into the app, so it works on phones where "Scan QR code" said the scanner wasn't available. It asks for the camera when you open it. Frames stay in memory and are never saved.
- Torch button, and Scan a screenshot instead using Android's photo picker.
- When it finds your PC, the frame turns into a pill with your PC's name and a confirming tap.
Easier internet sync
- Turn on internet sync in UsageNotch for Windows 2.4 (two clicks). The phone picks it up by itself the next time it's on the same Wi-Fi as your PC. No new code to scan.
- Tap a ring and it grows into a full-screen view: a large ring, the pace forecast and a 24-hour chart you can scrub with your finger, with light haptic ticks. The back gesture shrinks it away.
- History tab: 7 or 30 days of daily usage, total, daily average, busiest day, your streak, and a weekday × hour map of your busiest times. Days and hours without readings are shown as no data. Needs Windows 2.4.
- Pace under each limit, such as "At this pace: limit around 4:10 PM".
Know before you run out
- Live countdown: an ongoing notification with the percentage and a countdown to the reset, also on the lock screen. On Android 16 it's a Live Update with a status-bar chip.
- Usage alerts at 80% and 95%, and "runs out in about 1 h 30 min at this pace" when a limit would run out before it resets. Each fires once per reset period.
- Quick Settings tile with the percentage; tap it to refresh. Add it from the Widgets tab in one tap.
- Reset alerts now vibrate gently.
Polish
- Wallpaper colors (Material You) on Android 12+, and a themed monochrome icon.
- Percentages roll digit by digit, rings spring to new readings and glow above 90%, and a glass copy of the dock follows you as you scroll (blurred on Android 12+).
- Predictive back from any tab. Reduce motion turns the animations off.
- Widgets can go on the lock screen on devices that support it.

UsageNotch for Android 1.2.0 — desktop rings, any-size widgets, one-scan pairing
UsageNotch for Android 1.2.0 brings the desktop dock to your phone and makes pairing one scan.
Pair in one scan
- On Windows, UsageNotch 2.3 shares with your phone itself: open Settings → Phone and turn on sharing. On Android, tap Scan QR code. No separate Link app, no files to copy.
- No app yet? Scan the code with your phone's camera. The page that opens offers the download, then pairs in one tap. The app always confirms before pairing from a link.
- Already paired through UsageNotch Link? Choose Switch to built-in in Windows Settings → Phone. Your phone stays paired.
Looks and reads like the desktop
- A dock strip of rings with the real Claude, OpenAI, Gemini and Cursor logos, the desktop's colour ramp, and the "7d" weekly figure. Tap a ring to jump to its card.
- Provider cards laid out like the desktop popup: Updated just now, account name (when the dock shows it), Live/Saved/Sign in pill, each limit with a colour-graded bar, amount, live Resets in countdown and Resets today at 3:29 PM, the Usage inspector chart, and Refresh / Open dashboard.
- Limits use the desktop's own names ("Current session", "All models", "5-hour window"…) instead of internal IDs, plus pay-as-you-go credits and API spend amounts.
- Light, Dark or System theme. Pull down to refresh.
Widgets in any size
- Resize from 1×1 to full screen: a single ring, a dock row or column, or the full view with rings and limit bars.
- Rings are drawn exactly like the desktop: outer ring for the session, inner ring for the week, logo in the centre.
- The focus widget shows one provider with a large dual ring and its limits. Previews in the widget picker show the real design.
Download UsageNotch-1.2.0.apk on your phone. It installs over 1.0 and 1.1 and keeps your pairing. Use it with UsageNotch for Windows 2.3 (installed copies update automatically). The standalone Link still works with Windows 2.2. The APK is signed with the same key as before (certificate SHA-256 ddafa1fb472f7ee28c91c7badab1930e5ba9b8a7e78b96ad33bec36798148091).
UsageNotch for Android 1.1.0 — launch fix, offline mode and internet sync
UsageNotch for Android 1.1.0 fixes the crash on launch and keeps working when your PC is off.
If the app closed as soon as you opened it, this release fixes that. Every phone was affected. The optimized build removed a piece of Android's background-job library (WorkManager) that it loads by name, so the app crashed before its first screen. The 1.0.1 download was also accidentally built from the 1.0.0 code. 1.1.0 uses Android's built-in job scheduler, and this exact APK was launch-tested on Android 16 and Android 9 before upload. It installs over 1.0.0 and 1.0.1.
Works when your PC is off
- Saved readings, countdowns and widgets keep working. The status says PC offline instead of showing an error.
- When a limit's reset time passes, the app and widgets show Renewed instead of an old percentage.
- New Reset alerts notify you when a limit resets. They work from saved readings, so the laptop can be shut down.
- Optional internet sync: UsageNotch Link can upload each reading, end-to-end encrypted, to a secret gist in your own GitHub account. The phone then gets readings on mobile data or any Wi-Fi, and keeps the last one after the PC shuts down. GitHub only ever stores ciphertext.
Easier pairing and setup
- Paste pairing code: copy a one-line code from Link instead of transferring a file. Pairing files also open straight from your file manager.
- Link now suggests your real Wi-Fi address first. It used to offer WSL/Hyper-V adapters that phones can't reach.
- Link can start with Windows, remembers whether sharing was on, and keeps running in the notification area when you close its window.
Also
- Update notices when a newer APK is published (can be turned off).
- Tap anywhere on a settings row to toggle it.
- If the app ever fails to start twice in a row, it opens a safe mode where you can share a crash report or reset its data. Reports stay on the phone unless you share them.
- API spend providers from Windows now show their names and logos, and Codex windows read "Primary window" and "Secondary window".
Download UsageNotch-1.1.0.apk on your phone and UsageNotch-Link-1.1.0-win-x64.zip on your PC. SHA256SUMS.txt lists checksums. The APK is signed with the same key as 1.0.x (certificate SHA-256 ddafa1fb472f7ee28c91c7badab1930e5ba9b8a7e78b96ad33bec36798148091).
UsageNotch for Android 1.0.1 (superseded — crashes on launch, use the latest version)
This APK still crashes on launch. Install 1.1.0 instead. The 1.0.1 file was accidentally built from the 1.0.0 code, and the crash was caused by the optimized build removing part of WorkManager, which the 1.0.1 change could not have fixed. 1.1.0 fixes it and installs over this version.
UsageNotch Android 1.0.1 fixes a startup crash seen on some Android devices.
The dashboard no longer depends on WorkManager background scheduling during launch. Widget refresh remains best effort and still runs through Android's normal scheduling rules. A real activity startup test now exercises the application class and the no-pairing path.
Download the Android APK and Windows Link companion from the latest GitHub release. Existing 1.0.0 installations update in place with the same signing identity.
The Android project and the existing UsageNotch Windows app remain separate. AI credentials remain on Windows.
