@github-actions github-actions released this 08 Oct 03:06

GraphPaper 0.5.0 — reusable voice graphs and bounded JEV

  • Fix oversized JEV requests with exact UTF-8 payload preflight, automatic question/candidate batching and compact voice-graph context. Raw voice-training articles are not sent to JEV. The existing 60 KB application budget is not simply raised.
  • Save and name a voice once, then apply its compact graph in any project without another model call or re-uploading the articles. Legacy learned profiles can be saved without retraining.
  • Separate voice training pieces from project evidence, with upload, pasted text and article-URL inputs in the voice library.
  • Edit the mini graph's habits and weights, export/import it, and view a namespaced style/evidence overlay without modifying the research graph.
  • Keep author control: power language is not filtered, and current project instructions override saved style habits. Applying or updating a voice does not choose the author's opinion.
  • Preserve existing profiles, source documents, graphs, settings and manuscripts. Failed/oversized optional decisions cannot destroy completed writing or fabricate a passing score.

Download the Windows ZIP, extract it fully, and run GraphPaper.exe with _internal alongside it. The package is unsigned and retains the public Graphify runtime, Codex OAuth, reasoning controls, Polemic and Science/APA features.

For an existing voice, open Your writing voice → Save as reusable voice. In another project, open My voices → Use in this project. The voice-graph guide explains the graph editor, training library, overlay, precedence and request sizing.

Development, regression testing and Windows packaging for this update run on GitHub-hosted runners—not the user's computer. The release workflow and attached reports record the actual completed checks. Synthetic provider responses test routing and size handling; they are not a claim of live JEV quality evaluation.

Built and tested entirely on GitHub-hosted Linux and Windows runners. The compiled Windows application passed its native interaction and save-on-close checks. GraphPaper 0.4.0 — Keep the argument

GraphPaper 0.4.0 — keep the author's argument

Fixed: forced moderation of the writing

Angle generation no longer defaults to counterbalancing every position or turning a judgment into an open question. Author voice and a common authorial contract now reach angle discovery, JEV evaluation, outline generation, drafting, review, revision and Humanize/Deslop.

The critic checks facts without treating moral judgments, satire or rhetorical force as defects. A softened conclusion or an irrelevant caveat can be flagged as authorial drift. A more moderate or polite revision is not automatically a better revision.

New: Polemic, the fourth writing mode

Polemic develops and defends the author's position. Different angles are different ways into the argument, not different degrees of retreat from it. Ordinary Nonfiction also supports an explicitly argument-led purpose; this is not only a new label.

Core thesis, Writing purpose, Rhetorical force and Evidence detail are separate controls. Lower evidence detail means leaner presentation, not fabricated facts. Higher detail does not request ideological balance. Polemic does not mechanically add profanity or replace the author's own voice with a generic aggressive style.

Short argumentative outlines up to 3,000 words are drafted as one coherent piece, avoiding repeated disclaimer openings caused by restarting the writer for every section. Longer writing, fiction continuity and the Science workflow remain available.

Continue your current project

Open the existing project, choose current mode · Change → Polemic, and edit Creative brief → Core thesis / Rhetorical force. In Angles, choose Refresh angles with my voice.

Do not rebuild the graph merely to change the writing stance. The mode change preserves the source library, graph, voice profile, manuscript and prior generated work. Old angles do not rewrite themselves when a slider changes; they are marked stale until explicitly refreshed or edited.

Windows package

Download GraphPaper-v0.4.0-Windows-x64.zip, extract the complete folder, and run GraphPaper.exe with _internal beside it. This portable build is unsigned. The included public Graphify runtime, Codex OAuth, reasoning controls, Science/APA, project folders and native freeze/save-on-close fixes remain in the package.

Verification and scope

Regression tests cover intent and voice handoff at each stage, both opposing author positions, stale-context detection, existing-project preservation, polishing fidelity and source-reference export. Browser/native checks exercise the actual controls. Live Codex editorial examples use original synthetic documents and a synthetic voice sample, not private user articles; evidence for wiring is distinct from a universal prose-quality guarantee.

See Polemic and authorial intent and the versioned validation reports for exact test counts, platform results and live-test scope. SHA256SUMS.txt identifies the downloadable archive.

Verified artifact

252 automated Windows tests passed (1 permission-related skip), all 54 browser checks passed, and all 17 checks passed against the actual compiled executable. Live Codex editorial tests used original synthetic material; JEV input behavior was tested without live JEV spending.

GraphPaper 0.3.1 - external Graphify with Codex

Fixed

  • The external Graphify action now works with Codex / ChatGPT OAuth and the configured GraphPaper provider, extraction model and reasoning setting.
  • Graphify runs as the real public upstream command in a separate process. There is no duplicate Native extraction pass, no requirement for an additional Codex API key and no automatic switch to API billing.
  • The Windows application includes Graphify 0.9.80, its public dependencies, metadata, tokenizer cache and licences. Source dependencies are pinned in requirements-graphify.txt; no private fork or unpublished backend is needed.
  • A temporary, authenticated loopback adapter routes Graphify's bounded text requests through GraphPaper. Provider/OAuth credentials are not passed to Graphify. The extraction shares the job's request accounting and honours configured reasoning.
  • Missing backends, malformed/empty graph output, dangling edges, cancellation and timeouts leave the previous graph and source documents intact.
  • External source-file provenance is preserved in the graph inspector and downstream angle retrieval without treating it as proof of a claim.
  • Added graphical runtime diagnostics, total extraction timeout and chunk-budget controls, plus release gates that actually exercise the bundled worker rather than merely checking the window's HTTP assets.

The existing author-voice, project-folder, humanizer/deslop, Science/APA and native Windows freeze fixes remain in place.

Download and use

Extract GraphPaper-v0.3.1-Windows-x64.zip into a new folder and run GraphPaper.exe. Keep _internal beside it. The binary is unsigned; no separate Python or Graphify installation is required for this Windows package.

In Connections & settings, keep or select your provider, choose the extraction model and reasoning depth, and select Graphify (external process) under Advanced limits & Graphify. Leave Custom Graphify executable blank for the included runtime. An old explicit custom path is not silently overridden; clear it when switching to the bundled runtime. Check Graphify runtime makes no model call.

Testing and scope

Validation separates implementation tests, real upstream Graphify execution, a real Codex-backed extraction, and compiled Windows/native checks. Model fixtures are explicitly synthetic. The real Codex test uses synthetic documents in an isolated project, not an existing manuscript. Versioned reports record the exact platforms, outcomes and archive checksum.

Cancellation cannot refund a provider request that was already submitted. File attribution and quote matching do not prove scientific validity. macOS compatibility is not presented as a tested desktop build. Existing local installations are not modified by publishing this release.

Integration and distribution guide · Public Graphify distribution

Verified build

217 automated Windows tests passed (1 platform-permission skip). All 44 browser workflow checks passed, all 10 native-source checks passed, and all 15 checks against the actual compiled executable passed. The compiled-native checks include a real public Graphify worker with synthetic model transport, source provenance, native Save As and save-on-close.

Real Codex-backed extraction was verified separately with synthetic documents and the packaged Graphify worker, using the explicitly selected gpt-6-luna model at low reasoning. It used 1 model request(s), with no duplicate Native pass or API-key fallback. Exact outcomes, dependency versions and platform results are recorded in docs/validation/v0.3.1. This is not a claim of paid API testing for every provider or a macOS desktop build.

GraphPaper 0.3.0 - Science mode and reasoning depth

New

  • Three modes: Nonfiction, Fiction and Science, with a separate research desk for scientific work.
  • Per-role reasoning: independently select writer, editor and extraction/research effort. Codex options come from the runtime's model catalog, including extended levels only when advertised. OpenRouter, OpenAI-compatible and Anthropic routes use their native fields. Explicit thinking budgets and configurable request timeouts are supported where appropriate.
  • Live scholarly search: PubMed, Semantic Scholar, arXiv, Crossref and Europe PMC, with query logs, timestamps, caps, duplicate merging and explicit partial failures. Optional NCBI/Semantic Scholar keys are stored securely.
  • Evidence workflow: include/exclude decisions, exclusion reasons, open full text or uploaded-paper attachment, study appraisal, exact source quotations, design/limitations and an evidence matrix.
  • Scientific manuscripts: editable question/protocol, IMRaD-style outlines, evidence-led drafting, abstract, keywords, author declarations and source-support review. Empirical mode requires the author's actual completed results; it does not invent experiments or analyses.
  • APA 7 Word export: professional title/author-note page, abstract, consistent typography, running head and page numbers, author-year citations and hanging references generated from metadata. A research package adds BibTeX, RIS, the evidence CSV, protocol and search log.
  • Submission checks: unresolved blockers and author confirmations are visible. Changes invalidate prior approval. The checklist is not a claim of journal acceptance or ethics approval.

The author-voice, project-folder, humanizer/deslop and Codex OAuth features remain available. The Windows bridge freeze and save-on-close fixes are retained.

Install

Download GraphPaper-v0.3.0-Windows-x64.zip, extract the whole folder into a new location, and run GraphPaper.exe. Keep _internal with the executable. No Python installation or terminal workflow is required. Existing projects and credentials use the same local data directory. The binary is unsigned.

Use Connections -> Load available models -> Reasoning depth to choose effort levels. Create a Science project and open its Research protocol to begin scholarly work.

Scope

Database search is real network retrieval, not simulated research. Searches are bounded and never presented as exhaustive when capped. Abstracts/preprints are labelled. Systematic/scoping review completeness checks are stricter. The author must verify original sources, specialized references and the target journal's reporting requirements. Live metadata checks are separate from controlled model tests; no real user OAuth sign-in or paid writing-model call is claimed as part of release validation.

Detailed instructions: UPDATE-0.3.md. Validation reports are under docs/validation/v0.3.0. SHA256SUMS.txt identifies the exact downloadable archive.

Verified release build

172 automated Windows tests passed (one symlink-permission skip), all 39 browser workflow checks passed, and all 10 native checks passed against the actual compiled executable. The APA export received a four-page visual check. Live metadata retrieval succeeded on PubMed, arXiv, Crossref and Europe PMC; Semantic Scholar anonymous access was rate-limited with HTTP 429, reported explicitly. These are native local-build results, not a claim that a hosted Actions run completed.

Windows ZIP: 157,726,720 bytes. SHA-256: b32cb385726f185ee50c1347a31eb4631d924e7fc4247b46afc2003c14de0a1b. The official Codex runtime remains bundled and its signed-out protocol check passed.

GraphPaper 0.2.1 - Windows interface freeze fix

GraphPaper 0.2.1 ? Windows interface freeze fix

This is a corrective release for the Windows interface in 0.2.0. It retains
all author-voice, project-folder, prose-editing and Codex sign-in features.

Fixed

  • Restricted the Python/JavaScript bridge to four explicit methods. Its store,
job runner and native window are now private and cannot be recursively
reflected into the browser API. Native testing of the old bridge produced
recursion-limit and wrong-thread COM/WebView2 errors while API initialization
    failed to finish.
  • Fixed a second native deadlock on closing: the WinForms closing handler now
returns immediately and performs the save handshake on a worker, rather than
waiting for JavaScript while holding the UI event loop.
  • Failed saves and declined close prompts reset the handshake so closing can be
retried. The original manuscript is not discarded to make the window close.

Windows download

Extract GraphPaper-v0.2.1-Windows-x64.zip into a new folder and open
GraphPaper.exe. Keep its _internal companion folder. No Python installation
is needed. Close the old executable first. Existing projects and credentials
remain in the same local data directory; this patch does not reset them.

Native regression coverage

The new scripts/native_smoke.py launches the actual Windows/WebView2 shell in
an isolated temporary project directory. It sends a genuine Windows mouse click,
checks the restricted bridge and its returned promise, creates a project, types
in the editor, opens Connections, opens and cancels a native Save As dialog, and
sends the Windows close message before autosave's delay expires. It then verifies
that the pending manuscript was written and the process exited normally.

It runs against source and the compiled executable. This is not the browser-only
or HTTP-startup check used in previous releases. The release workflow now requires
the compiled native regression before uploading its Windows artifact.

126 automated Windows tests passed; one symlink-permission test was skipped.
Native test reports are recorded with this release after the packaged run.
No live model request or OAuth login is part of these tests. The binary remains
unsigned. SHA256SUMS.txt records the exact downloadable ZIP checksum.

GraphPaper 0.2.0 - Your voice, cleaner prose

Windows fix available: GraphPaper v0.2.1 fixes the native interface freeze and save-on-close deadlock in this version. Download the patched release instead.

GraphPaper 0.2.0

A Windows writing studio for fiction and nonfiction, now with:

  • Your writing voice: upload samples, paste writing, or discover and selectively import articles from your author/blog URL; learn an editable style profile with adjustable influence.
  • Project folders: a local Inbox per project, automatic idle-time import, role-specific subfolders and original upload files.
  • Humanizer and deslopping: separate or combined editing passes, explainable local inspection, protected factual spans, side-by-side proposals, diffs and explicit acceptance.
  • Codex / ChatGPT sign-in: use your account allowance instead of a writing API key; official runtime included, with browser OAuth handled by Codex. Other API providers remain available. JEV is a separate optional connection.

Windows

Download GraphPaper-v0.2.0-Windows-x64.zip, extract the complete folder and open GraphPaper.exe. No separate Python installation or terminal workflow is needed. Keep the _internal companion folder. Edge WebView2 must be available. The build is unsigned.

The SHA256SUMS file records the package checksum. The bundled Codex runtime has its own version, download URL and SHA-256 provenance in _internal/vendor/codex-release.json.

Quality and limits

The build process runs automated tests, browser workflows and actual Windows package checks. Model responses in tests use controlled fixtures. The official runtime is checked while signed out; a real user's OAuth ceremony and live prose generation cannot be completed by CI. Inspect claims, citations and proposed edits before publishing.

Existing projects load with defaults for the new features. User data stays in the existing local GraphPaper data directory; extracting the new executable does not replace your project database.

Verified on Windows

120 automated tests passed; one symlink-permission test was skipped. All 26 browser workflow checks passed over real local HTTP with no JavaScript page errors. Official Codex CLI 0.160.1 passed its signed-out app-server handshake. Hosted Actions were queued, so these results come from the isolated native Windows build, not a claimed successful CI run.

The compiled Windows executable passed its startup, local backend and bundled-interface self-test. The versioned Windows ZIP includes the official Codex runtime and its verified provenance. This check does not complete a real account OAuth login or make a live model request.
