@ArtMMS ArtMMS released this 17 Oct 16:12

LANShare v1.2.0 — Soundboard Update

Play sound effects for everyone in the room with your own library of sounds.

Highlights

  • Soundboard: play short sound effects for everyone in the room
  • Build your own sound library from .mp3, .wav or .ogg files
  • See who played the sound: their name lights up in the users list
  • Per-user sound effects volume, independent from the stream volume
  • Anti-spam cooldown so nobody can flood the room

Soundboard

  • New 🎉 button at the bottom center of the video, available to the Host (with the room open) and to connected Clients
  • The button stays discreet until you hover over it, then grows and lights up
  • Click it to open the sound effects panel, with 3 sounds per row and scrolling for bigger libraries
  • Click a sound to play it for everyone in the room: you hear it instantly, and so does everybody else
  • Up to 4 sounds can play at the same time
  • In fullscreen, the 🎉 button hides together with the volume button when the mouse is idle

Your Sound Library

  • Click Add sound to open the new add dialog, or drag a file straight onto the panel
  • Supports MP3, WAV and OGG files, up to 5 seconds and 2 MB
  • Preview the sound before saving it
  • The file name is used as the default name, and you can change it. Tip: paste an emoji into the name (e.g. Quack 🦆)
  • Sounds are saved on your computer, in %APPDATA%\LANShare\sfx, and stay there between sessions
  • Right-click a sound to Play only for me, Rename or Remove it
  • Clear error messages for files that are too long, too big or in an unsupported format

Who Played It?

  • When someone plays a sound, their entry in the users list gets a blue border and a 🎉 while the sound plays
  • Works for everyone in the room: Host, Clients, and the person who played it
  • Play only for me doesn't light up anything, since nobody else hears it

Sound Effects Volume

  • New volume icon in the corner of the panel opens a horizontal slider above it
  • Hover to show it, or click to pin it open
  • Adjust with the mouse wheel, too
  • Each person controls how loud the sound effects are for them. It doesn't affect anyone else
  • Separate from the stream volume, saved between sessions (starts at 70%)
  • Sound effects play on the output device chosen in Settings

Anti-spam

  • After playing a sound, there's a 1.5 second cooldown before you can play another one
  • The panel shows a small bar counting down the cooldown
  • The Host enforces the rule for everyone, so a modified client can't flood the room

Under the Hood

  • Sound effects are compressed with Opus (48 kHz, stereo) before going over the network. A 5-second sound takes about 60 KB
  • The Host validates every sound it receives (size, length and name) before passing it on
  • Sound effects played by LANShare are not captured into the stream audio, so nobody hears them twice

Fixes

  • Host users list: with many users in the room, the list no longer overflows onto the buttons below it. It now uses the available space and scrolls

⚠️ Compatibility

This version uses a new network protocol. Host and Clients must all be on v1.2.0. Rooms from older versions show up as incompatible version. If you're on an older version, the in-app updater will offer the new version automatically.

📥 Installation

  1. Download LANShare.exe or LANShare.zip from the Assets below
  2. Run it on every computer that will join the room
  3. One person creates a room (Host). Everyone else joins from the lobby

⚠️ All devices must be on the same local network (or a virtual LAN such as Radmin VPN).

LANShare v1.1.0 — Audio Update

Everything playing on the Host's computer reaches every viewer in the room, in sync with the image.

Highlights

  • System audio streaming from the Host to every Client
  • Audio and video in sync: what you hear matches what you see
  • Choose which output device plays the stream's sound
  • Per-viewer volume control right on top of the video, with mute
  • High-quality Opus audio at 128 kbps stereo

Audio Streaming

  • Captures everything playing on the Host's computer
  • LANShare's own sounds are left out, so notification sounds never end up in the stream
  • Audio compressed with Opus (48 kHz, stereo, 128 kbps)
  • Audio starts and stops together with the screen stream
  • If the audio fails, the image keeps going and a warning is shown

Audio & Video Sync

  • Audio and video are timestamped at capture, on the same clock
  • The Client uses the audio as the master clock and paces the video to it
  • Small network delays are absorbed by a short audio buffer, without stuttering
  • New A/V offset indicator in the Client's info bar

Audio Output

  • Choose where the stream's sound plays in Settings → Audio & Notifications
  • Windows default follows the system if you change the default device
  • Switching the output takes effect instantly, even while watching
  • If the chosen device is disconnected (e.g. headphones), sound falls back to the Windows default and returns automatically when it's plugged back in

Volume Control

  • New volume button in the corner of the video (Clients only)
  • Vertical slider with live percentage, plus a mute toggle
  • Adjust with the mouse wheel over the button
  • Volume and mute are saved and restored on the next launch (starts at 50%)
  • In fullscreen, the button and cursor hide when the mouse is idle, like a video player

Fixes

  • Fullscreen now exits automatically when the Client disconnects or is removed from the room

⚠️ Compatibility

This version uses a new network protocol. Host and Clients must all be on v1.1.0. Rooms from older versions show up as incompatible version. If you're on v1.0.0, the in-app updater will offer the new version automatically.
