I'm excited to announce Croc Notes 1.1.0 – a major update for the desktop version, packed with new features, improved flexibility, and better reliability.
A dedicated mobile version is also available for Android. See the Mobile section below.
🚀 What’s New
📐 Resizable Everything
- Resizable layout – Drag the dividers between the three main panels to adjust the space for checklists, rich text notes, and content notes.
- Resizable left sidebar – Pull the handle to give categories more or less room.
- Full‑screen notepads – Click the Focus button on any notepad toolbar to expand it to the whole window. Great for distraction‑free writing.
📅 Interactive Calendar & Reminders
- Built‑in calendar – Switch between categories and a monthly calendar view with a single toggle.
- Reminder system – Add reminders with date, time, note, and event type.
- Three viewing modes:
- Categories – your familiar tab organization.
- Calendar + reminders – shows reminders for the selected day.
- All reminders – lists all reminders grouped by date.
- Event types & colors – Choose from 11 categories (Appointments, Work, School, etc.). Each type gets its own color for quick visual recognition.
- Calendar markers – Days with reminders show a coloured dot. The dot colour matches the first reminder’s event type.
- Edit reminders – Long‑press any reminder to edit or delete it.
💪 Smarter Backup & Restore
- Selective export – Choose exactly which categories or individual tabs to back up.
- Import with conflict resolution – When restoring, decide to replace existing items or keep both (with automatic renaming).
- Full compatibility – The new import system handles both old full‑backup files and the new selective format.
🪟 Window & Interface Improvements
- Sticky notes mode – Pin the window to stay on top of other applications (toggle in the title bar).
- Hide/show sidebar – Collapse the left panel for maximum writing space.
- Draggable tabs – Reorder tabs inside any category by dragging the handle (≡).
- Scrollable toolbars – Notepad toolbars now scroll horizontally when many buttons are visible.
- Improved dialog responsiveness – No more overflow issues on smaller screens.
⏰ Timer System Overhaul
- Background alarms – Timers now ring even if the app is closed! (Windows only for now)
- Better state persistence – Timers survive app restarts and resume correctly.
- Simplified setup – Only the loop option remains; the default sound is always used.
🎨 Polished UI
- Fixed color picker overflow – Works smoothly on all screen sizes.
- Editor focus stays put – Changing fonts no longer steals focus from the editor.
- Cleaner dialogs – Consistent dark theme with better button styling.
🛡️ First‑Run Permissions
- Permission gate screen – Guides new users through enabling notifications and storage access on first launch.
📱 Mobile Version
A fully functional mobile version for Android is now available as a separate release. It includes all core features adapted for touch:
- Swipe gestures
- Floating action buttons for checklists & timers
- Bottom navigation
- Responsive layouts
🐛 Bug Fixes & Improvements
- Fixed images not loading on Android after migration.
- Fixed overflow errors in dialogs and color picker.
- Improved database migration for old image paths.
- Various UI tweaks and performance optimisations.
