KBoard v2.5.6 Release Notes

This update focuses on performance optimizations, a redesigned onboarding flow, layout enhancements, and improved device compatibility.

🚀 Key Highlights & Performance

  • Major Typing Lag Fix (Input Buffering): Implemented an asynchronous buffering wrapper around the Android InputConnection subsystem. This bypasses blocking synchronous IPC round-trips for cursor and selection queries in laggy text fields, eliminating typing delays in WebViews and rich text editors.
  • Redesigned Welcome Setup Wizard: Rebuilt the entire onboarding flow to align with Material 3 Expressive guidelines. Includes a shape-morphing key animation (AnimatedFrostKeysIcon) built with modern graphics-shapes libraries. Added a setting to manually rerun the setup wizard from the main settings.
  • New Inline Emoji Search: Rewrote the emoji search interface into an inline panel experience, keeping the keyboard context visible and avoiding layout transitions.
  • Decoupled Resize UI: Decoupled the keyboard resizing interface from the main layout hierarchy. Refined the resizing overlay with a frosted-glass blur effect and intuitive drag handles.

⚠️ Reversions

  • Keypress Popup Clipping: The workaround introduced in the previous version to prevent keypress popups from clipping outside the keyboard bounds has been reverted. Testing showed this workaround introduced typing lag and performance overhead.

🛠️ Layout & Usability Fixes

  • RTL Backspace Mirroring: The backspace (delete) key icon now mirrors horizontally when using Right-to-Left (RTL) script keyboard subtypes.
  • Deferred Emoji Recents Reordering: Recent emoji lists now defer reordering until the emoji panel is closed. This prevents sudden layout shifts and list shifts while actively tapping emojis.
  • Arabic Script Sizing: Normalized the delete key width on Arabic layouts to match standard letter keys on the same row. Latin layouts retain their wider functional key widths.
  • Klipy & Clipboard: Optimized history loading and general keyboard responsiveness in the Klipy panel.

📱 Blur & Samsung Compatibility (Android 15)

  • Android 15 Compatibility: Updated reflection logic to prefer hidden_ prefixed methods for Samsung's SemBlurInfo rendering to bypass Android 15 non-SDK API restrictions.
  • Samsung Color Curve Presets: Added reflection support for Android 15 Samsung color curve presets (preset 130 for dark mode, 115 for light mode).
  • Multi-Layer Fallbacks: Integrated a multi-tier fallback mechanism for Samsung blurs (proprietary SemBlurInfo -> legacy window extension flags -> opaque fallback background).
  • Power & Lifecycle Optimization: Prevented background blur rendering when the keyboard input view is hidden to eliminate unnecessary draw calls.

KBoard 2.5.5 brings Burmese/Myanmar language support, smoother visual polish across the keyboard experience, stronger clipboard image handling, and several focused fixes that make daily typing feel cleaner and more reliable.

🔍 What's New & Changed

🌐 Burmese (Myanmar) Language Support

  • New Burmese Language Entry: Added Burmese/Myanmar support to the Languages & layouts settings.
  • Myanmar G Mobile Layout: Added the Myanmar G layout as the default Burmese mobile keyboard layout.
  • PC/Basic Burmese Layout Option: Added a PC-style Burmese layout as an alternate option for users who prefer a computer-style key arrangement.
  • Better Burmese Character Rendering: Improved Burmese keyboard sizing and label fitting so complex Myanmar characters and stacked glyphs stay inside their keys more reliably.

🎨 Visual & Theme Polish

  • Solid Fallback Background: Fixed transparent fallback rendering when system blur is disabled. The keyboard now falls back to a proper solid background instead of becoming see-through.
  • Popup Key Clipping Fix: Fixed popup keys getting clipped by the top edge of the keyboard.
  • Improved Key Press Popups: Refined the look and feel of key press previews for a cleaner, more polished typing experience.
  • Swipe Preview Polish: Improved the swipe typing floating preview so gesture typing feels smoother and more visually consistent.
  • Panel Transition Animations: Added subtle fade animations when switching between keyboard panels for a softer, less abrupt experience.

🖼️ Clipboard & Screenshot Handling

  • Screenshot Clipboard Handoff Fix: Fixed stale or unsupported screenshot attachments by caching screenshot images with unique atomic files.
  • Rapid Screenshot Update Handling: Added batch processing for quick screenshot updates and reused cached FileProvider URIs on paste for more reliable image sharing.

⚡ Performance

  • General Performance Improvements: Added internal optimizations and cleanup to improve responsiveness and reduce unnecessary work during keyboard usage.

This update introduces critical stability fixes for modern Android SDKs, adds robust safeguards to improve the user onboarding experience, polishes the theme aesthetics for a modern flat look, and makes in-app language switching seamless.

🔍 What's New & Changed

🌐 Language & Subtype Switching

  • Instant Custom/Multilingual Switching: Fixed a bug where selecting custom subtypes (like multilingual typing setups) via the spacebar long-press popup or swipe gestures would fail silently. The keyboard now transitions layouts internally instantly, eliminating dependency on OS settings sync.
  • System Switcher Cycling: Improved KBoard’s subtype switching compatibility with the global Android OS navigation bar globe switcher and IME picker.

🛡️ Safeguards & Stability

  • Font Import Safeguards: Added validation checks and warning dialogs when importing custom fonts to prevent importing the wrong font type (e.g., loading emoji fonts into standard text settings), which previously caused letters/labels to render blank.
  • Android 17 (SDK 37) Crash Fix: Resolved a fatal NullPointerException inside LatinIME.onDestroy occurring during view destruction and layout transitions.

🎨 Visual & Theme Polish

  • Premium Flat Aesthetic: Removed shadow elevation from special keys and suggestion pills to deliver a modern, clean, glassmorphic layout.
  • Dark Mode Contrast: Brightened and increased the color contrast of suggestion pills in the dark theme for improved legibility.
  • Samsung Blur Optimizations: Polished Samsung background blur settings (SemBlurInfo API) and frosted glass configurations to guarantee maximum frame rates and visual consistency.
  • Emoji Grid Repositioning: Repositioned the layout arrow hints in the emoji selection view to the top-right corner of cells so they no longer overlap or crowd emojis.

🐛 Input Logic

  • Text Flickering Loop Resolution: Resolved an edge-case rendering loop that caused character flickering during swift input connection state transitions.

🚀 KBoard v2.2.0 : High-Performance Media Scrolling & UI Enhancements

Choose a tag to compare

@AshwinSoni-01 AshwinSoni-01 released this 20 May 11:14

Important

Recommended Update: This release addresses critical thermal and resource-allocation bugs found in older versions. If you have experienced device heating or battery drain while scrolling through GIFs and Stickers, updating to v2.2.0 is highly recommended to restore cool, peak-efficiency performance.
This update introduces massive, under-the-hood optimization pipelines to the GIFs and Stickers panel, dropping resource consumption to industry-leading efficiency. Active CPU draw and physical memory usage have been dramatically reduced to ensure your device stays completely cool—even during aggressive scrolling.

🛠️ Performance & Resource Enhancements

  • ⚡ 42%+ Reduction in Peak Scrolling RAM

    • Optimized RecyclerView off-screen cache sizes to enable immediate memory recycling.
    • Peak physical memory usage during active media scrolling has been slashed by over 42%.
  • 🧹 Instantaneous Memory Purging

    • Added aggressive view detachment and bitmap disposal.
    • When scrolling ceases, the app aggressively reclaims nearly 30% of its active memory footprint in less than 120 milliseconds, settling down to a 29% lighter baseline than prior releases.
  • ⏱️ Fling-Aware Deferred Loading

    • Image loading now intelligently pauses during rapid scroll motion.
    • If a grid cell flies quickly past the screen, its image decode request is completely bypassed—saving vast amounts of CPU cycles.
  • ⏸️ Scroll-State Animation Pausing

    • When actively dragging or flinging through the panel, visible GIF/WebP animations are briefly paused to yield all processing power to scroll physics.
    • The millisecond scrolling stops, previews instantly resume playing seamlessly.
  • 📉 Frame-Rate Throttled Previews

    • Preview animations are now capped at a CPU-friendly frame rate using a custom drawable scheduler.
    • This reduces background frame-decoding and GPU drawing overhead by up to 80%, while keeping previews completely animated.
    • Note: Original full-quality HD media remains untouched and is sent at maximum quality.
  • 🎨 Custom Lightweight Loader

    • Designed a native, canvas-drawn rotating progress spinner to serve as a premium loading placeholder. This keeps the application lightweight and entirely free of unnecessary external dependencies.

🔋 Intelligent Battery Safety

  • ⚡ Strict Battery Saver Compliance
    • System battery saver modes are strictly respected.
    • The application automatically disables resource-intensive live background blurs when battery saver is active, defaulting to a highly optimized solid opaque themed background to maximize battery preservation, still completely following the Material You color profiles.

KBoard v2.1.0

Choose a tag to compare

@AshwinSoni-01 AshwinSoni-01 released this 19 May 12:24

KBoard Update 🎉

This release brings some long-awaited fixes and a few fresh improvements ✨

What's New

  • 🔎 Fixed Emoji Search
Emoji search is finally working properly! This had been broken since the very beginning of the app’s development, so this is a big cleanup milestone.

  • 🎨 New App Icon
Replaced the old icon with a brand-new, cleaner, better-looking app icon.

  • 🧊 Experimental Frosted Glass Blur
Added a new blur implementation with better support for Samsung devices and other supported Android phones. Unsupported devices will gracefully fall back to a tinted background instead of breaking the theme.

  • 🖼️ Send GIFs as Stickers Toggle
Added a new setting: Send GIFs as Stickers.
When enabled, GIFs use the animated sticker sending flow. When disabled, GIFs are sent as regular GIF images.

Notes

Blur support still depends heavily on the device, Android version, and manufacturer implementation, especially on Samsung phones. It should work where the system supports it and safely falls back where it does not.

KBoard v2.0.0: Animated Stickers & GIFs Update 🚀

Choose a tag to compare

@AshwinSoni-01 AshwinSoni-01 released this 17 May 16:56

Get ready to level up your chat game! KBoard 2.0.0 is our biggest update yet. We are bringing a completely overhauled media experience right to your keyboard, powered by a massive under-the-hood engineering upgrade.

✨ What's New:

The All-New Klipy Panel: We’ve integrated the Klipy API to bring you an endless, native library of high-quality GIFs and animated stickers, perfectly woven into your typing experience.

Beautiful New Layouts: Browsing media has never looked better. GIFs now flow in a gorgeous staggered "river view," while stickers are neatly organized in a clean, easy-to-tap 4-column grid.

Flawless WhatsApp Integration: No more annoying share sheets! No more flattened static images! When you tap an animated WebP sticker, it drops instantly and perfectly into your WhatsApp chats with full animation intact.

🛠️ Under the Hood (Developer Notes):

Custom WebP Pipeline: Built a robust animated sticker processing engine. KBoard now utilizes a custom libwebp decoding and encoding pipeline to intercept, process, and re-format raw Klipy API downloads on the fly, ensuring they meet WhatsApp's strict 500KB architectural constraints.

Direct Handoff Architecture: Engineered a precise insertion pipeline to completely bypass the Android ACTION_SEND Share Sheet fallback. By utilizing exact MIME type handling (image/webp.wasticker) alongside strictly validated commitContent URIs via a custom StickerProvider, animated media is handed securely and directly into the host app's editor bubble.

KBoard v1.0.1-release

Choose a tag to compare

@AshwinSoni-01 AshwinSoni-01 released this 15 May 17:45

Release v1.0.1 - Theme Hotfix & Build Automation

This patch addresses a layout issue found immediately following our initial v1.0.0 release, alongside some major under-the-hood improvements to our build pipeline.

🐛 UI & Theme Fixes

  • Fixed Full-Screen Keyboard Glitch: Resolved an issue where selecting any of the "Standard" (non-blur) themes would cause the keyboard background to stretch and cover the entire screen. All themes now correctly wrap to their content height and sit seamlessly at the bottom of the display, matching the behavior of our Frosted Glass themes.
  • Consistent Navigation Padding: Verified that all standard themes properly respect the bottom system navigation bar.

⚙️ Under the Hood (Build System)

  • Automated Versioning: Migrated to a dynamic versionCode system powered by Git commit history.
  • Configuration Cache Fix: Implemented Gradle ValueSource API to safely execute external Git commands, ensuring full compatibility with modern Android Studio configuration caching for faster build times.
