Excel to KML 4.3.1

What's new: the downloads are simply called Excel to KML — no more "Pro" or "Lite" in the
file names. And the files you save are yours alone: the program no longer writes its name, its
version or a developer credit into any file you export.

What hasn't changed: everything else. Conversions, saved files, jobs, settings and your
account work exactly as in 4.3.0.

• Your jobs, settings, symbol library and sign-in carry over — the renamed program keeps using
  the same data as before.
• Shortcuts on the desktop and in the Start menu are updated to the new program.
• Older versions still update: this release also carries the installer under its old name,
  so a copy of 4.3.0 or earlier finds this update the usual way. From 4.3.1 on, updates use the new
  name.
• The Android app keeps its package name, so it still installs over the version on your phone.

No program name in your files

• Survey report (PDF): the line Excel to KML · BM2KML … · developed by … at the foot of every
  page is gone. The foot now shows your company name (when you have set one under Company and
  logo), the job name and the page number. The PDF's document properties no longer name the
  program or its developer; the author is your company, when set.
• Printable report (HTML): the program line at the foot of every printed page and at the end is
  gone.
• Google Earth (KML and KMZ): the Produced with Excel to KML line under each point's details
  is gone.
• GPX: the file's creator is your company name (or Survey points), not the program.
• Excel, CSV, DXF, GeoJSON, Shapefile and instrument files never carried the program's name,
  and still don't.

Install or update

• Windows 10 and 11, already installed: the program offers 4.3.1 when it next opens. Press
  Yes; it updates and restarts by itself.
• Windows 10 and 11, new install: download ExcelToKML-Setup.exe below and run
  it. If SmartScreen warns about an unknown publisher, press More info, then Run anyway.
  (ExcelToKMLPro-Lite-Setup.exe below is the same installer under its old name, for older
  versions' automatic updates.)
• Android: install ExcelToKML-4.3.1.apk below, when it is listed.
• Web: open the web app at exceltokml.com; it already has this
  change.

Good to know

What's new: sign in with your Google account — in the Windows app and on the website. No
password to make up or remember.

What hasn't changed: everything else. Conversions, saved files, jobs, settings and existing
accounts work exactly as in 4.2.3.

Continue with Google

• In the Windows app: open Sign In and press Continue with Google. Your usual web
  browser opens exceltokml.com; choose your Google account there and press Continue to the
  app. Go back to Excel to KML — it is already signed in.
• Why the browser opens: Google doesn't allow signing in inside app windows, so the app uses
  your browser for that one step. The sign-in is handed back only to Excel to KML on the same
  computer, works once, and expires after 15 minutes.
• New to Excel to KML? The same button creates your free account. You are asked two quick
  things — your organisation and your occupation — and then carry on.
• Already have an account? If it uses the same email address as your Google account, Google
  signs you in to that account. Your email and password still work too.
• Administrator accounts sign in with email and password, as before.

On the website

• Continue with Google is on the sign-in and sign-up pages at
  exceltokml.com, and in the box that appears when you press
  Download.
• The web app is signed in by the website, so signing in there with Google signs in the web
  app too.

Also in this version

• Create Account: the name box now says Your full name.

What's new: when you create an account, you type your occupation in your own words instead
of choosing from a short list.

What hasn't changed: everything else. Conversions, saved files, jobs, settings and your
account work exactly as in 4.2.2.

Creating an account

• Occupation, in your own words: the Role list on the sign-up form is now an Occupation
  box. Type what you do — Hydrographic Surveyor, Quantity Surveyor, Site Engineer, anything.
• Suggestions as you type: Land Surveyor, Cadastral Surveyor, Party Chief, Civil Engineer,
  Site Engineer, GIS Specialist, UAV / Drone Operator, Survey Technician, Contractor, Architect
  and Student. Pick one or keep typing.
• Needed to sign up: the form asks for it if it is left empty. Extra spaces are tidied away,
  and it can be up to 60 characters long.
• One word is kept back: an occupation containing "admin" is not accepted, and the form says
  so. Administrator accounts are never created through sign-up.
• Existing accounts keep the role they already have.

The same Occupation box is on the sign-up page at exceltokml.com.

Excel to KML v4.2.2

Excel to KML 4.2.2

What's new: Excel to KML Pro is now simply Excel to KML — same program, same features,
still free. Typing points by hand is one click away and now takes latitude and longitude, and the
history in your account records every saved file in full.

What hasn't changed: your jobs, settings and symbol library carry over. Every format is written
as in 4.2.1 — only the program's name inside GPX and PDF files is new — and job and library files
open in both versions.

A simpler name

• Everywhere you see it: the title bar, the About window, the manual, the account page,
  reports, and the GPX and PDF files the program writes now say Excel to KML.
• Windows: updating replaces the Excel to KML Pro shortcuts on the desktop and in the Start
  menu with Excel to KML ones. The program stays in the same folder, so nothing else moves.
• Android: the app is listed as Excel to KML and updates the one already on your phone.
• Files and updates: the installer keeps its name, ExcelToKMLPro-Lite-Setup.exe, so that
  installed copies can find their updates.

Type points by hand

• Type points button: next to Paste. It opens the form for entering points one at a time —
  station, coordinates, level, code and remarks — with the cursor ready in Station. Before, the
  form was folded away under the rows.
• Fast entry: Enter moves to the next box, and Enter on Code or Remarks adds the point. The
  next station name is filled in for you (CP-01, CP-02, …) and the code is kept.
• Latitude and longitude: with Latitude and longitude chosen under Coordinate system, the
  form asks for those instead of easting and northing. Type decimal degrees (25.193080) or degrees,
  minutes and seconds (25°11'35.1"N, 25 11 35.1 N, 25°11.585'N); they are converted for you.
• Checked as you type:
  • A value that isn't a clean number, such as 25°11'3x, is refused. Before, it was read as 25
    and the point landed in the wrong place.
  • Latitude must be between −90 and 90, and longitude between −180 and 180.
  • A point is not added to a sheet that has no columns for its kind of coordinates; the form says
    what to change instead.
• Taking it back: Undo last point, Ctrl+Z or Start a fresh sheet, as before.

Your account

When you are signed in:

• Every save is recorded in full: your activity history now shows each saved file's name, size
  and grid, for every format. Before, CSV, DXF, GeoJSON, GPX, Shapefile, PDF and instrument saves
  were recorded without them.
• Only real saves: closing the Save window without saving no longer records an export.
• Grids by name: conversions record the grid as it appears in your files, such as
  WGS 84 / Dubai Local TM · EPSG:3997, instead of a bare number.
• Points with no level are kept with an empty level in your account, not 0.
• The web app on exceltokml.com keeps your files and points in the account of the site you are
  using, with or without "www".

Excel to KML Pro 4.2.1

Downloads and updates have a new home. The program's downloads and release notes are published
on this page, and installed copies update from here as before. Nothing changes in the program
itself: this release carries everything from 4.2.0.

If you have an older version

• Windows: open the program and press Yes when it offers 4.2.1. Every version from 3.5 on
  finds this update by itself.
• Android: install ExcelToKMLPro-4.2.1.apk below, if it is listed.
• New install: download ExcelToKMLPro-Lite-Setup.exe below. If SmartScreen warns about
  an unknown publisher, press More info, then Run anyway.
