Aurora — third orchestrated model + knowledge packs that actually reach the agent

Aurora — Mistral-only EU-stack routing

New entry in the chat-bar dropdown alongside Maestro and Supernova. Pins the coordinator to Mistral Large 3 (sparse MoE 41B active / 675B total) and Builder spawns to Mistral Small 4 (the unified Magistral + Pixtral + Devstral merge — vision-aware, agentic-coding capable).

By design, Aurora returns an error rather than silently routing to a non-Mistral model on outage — the EU-stack guarantee never quietly breaks. Vision tasks stay on Small 4 because Pixtral is baked in; no hard switch like Supernova has.

Currently admin-gated while we approach Mistral about an enterprise plan. Non-admin operators see Aurora "In development" — visible roadmap teaser, disabled. Server-side defence-in-depth: `/api/chat` returns 403 for `mistral-*-platform` ids without admin tier.

Knowledge packs — fixed, were decorative

The chat-bar Packs dropdown has been silently broken for a while. Toggling a pack updated React state and localStorage, but the sidecar never received the enabled list, so Ava's system prompt didn't include any pack content. Now it works end-to-end:

  • `SidecarConfig.enabledPackIds` passes the manual list at sidecar init
  • `togglePack` sends `cmd: 'set_knowledge_packs'` for live mid-session rebuild — no restart
  • Sidecar `handleSetKnowledgePacks` rebuilds `knowledgeContext` from scratch (auto-detected + new manual list), calls `buildSystemPrompt` again, replaces the conversation system prompt

Test path: open the Packs dropdown, enable e.g. Web Development, watch the sidecar log line "Knowledge packs updated → N active; system prompt rebuilt", then ask Ava a domain question — her answer references pack content. Toggle off, re-ask, the pack-specific framing drops.

Installation

  • `Ava Supernova IDE_0.17.0_x64_en-US.msi` — Windows MSI installer (recommended for fresh installs)
  • `Ava Supernova IDE_0.17.0_x64-setup.exe` — Windows NSIS installer (alternative)

Both x64. macOS / Linux installers will follow when those build environments are wired up.

If you're upgrading from v0.16.x, the installer handles the in-place update — your settings, memory, and project state carry over.

Other surfaces

  • VS Code Extension v0.55.1 — published to the Marketplace today. Description-only patch surfacing Aurora on the listing.
  • Web platform — `/api/chat` recognises `model: 'aurora'` as the orchestrator alias and resolves to `mistral-large-3-platform`. Vision reroute extended so an image-bearing turn on the text-only Large 3 lands on Small 4 instead of falling out to a non-Mistral model.
