nix profile install does not provide any binary: How to install on NixOS?

Hello,
the quickstart (curl -fsSL https://install.danklinux.com | sh) installer says that NixOS is not supported, but that there is a flake available. But nix profile install github:AvengeMedia/DankMaterialShell does not provide any binary as far as I can tell, most notably no dms cli tool.

Am I doing something wrong? I'm on a flake-based NixOS 25.05 install.

Yea I temporarily removed the nixos support from the installer just because the flake needs some update for hyprland, I'm not sure since I don't use nixos.

You can join the niri discord or matrix server and someone can help you there

Does it make sense to add support for NixOS in the installer anyway? I would assume that any NixOS user would use the flake instead of the curl installer TBH

Yea, not sure - the installer uses the flake itself so it's kinda just a wrapper for some things.

I've installed quickshell from the unstable branch (https://search.nixos.org/packages?channel=unstable&show=quickshell&query=quickshell) successfully. sadly I don't recall all the issues I hit.

the only thing beyond that was to add environment.sessionVariables.QMLLS_BUILD_DIRS = "${pkgs.kdePackages.qtdeclarative}/lib/qt-6/qml:${pkgs.unstable.quickshell}/lib/qt-6/qml/";

though I'm not sure if was still needed.

I'm running on NixOS unstable.

I installed the following packages from nixpkgs as usual (replace <username> with yours of course)

users.users.<username>.packages = with pkgs; [
    gammastep  #(if you want night mode)
    matugen       #(if you want auto themes)
    quickshell
];

Fonts

fonts.packages = with pkgs; [
    firacode
    inter
    material-symbols
];

For DMS, I just git cloned the repo:

git clone https://github.com/AvengeMedia/DankMaterialShell.git ~/.config/DMS/

Then start the shell with:

qs -c ~/.config/DMS/

To update the shell:

> cd ~/.config/DMS
> git pull

It's not declarative, but it works.

I've been trying sezaru's method. I keep running into various undefined variable errors:

I was able to troubleshoot through this one by enabling niri through home manager:

Are you using https://github.com/sodiboo/niri-flake? I think thats a prereq for the DMS home module and your error looks like its caused by the niri flake hm module missing.
