v0.9.3 "Windows"
Boot straight into the desktop, with the shell one Escape away; a
"set desktop.boot" setting (and an entry in the settings window) turns
it off. The launcher now has a search field, keyboard arrows, a
mouse-wheel scroll, an F1 hotkey and install-and-run, so any program in
the catalogue opens in one step whether or not it is installed yet.
Also in this release:
- The PS/2 mouse driver speaks IntelliMouse, which is what makes wheel
scrolling possible and stops a scroll from being misread as pointer
movement and flickering the launcher to the top. - Updates can come from any medium: with no writable disk the source is
remembered in RAM, and a kernel write that fails because there is no
disk says so. - A task waiting on another keeps its exit code from being reaped out
from under it. - The new
cargo xtask servesubcommand hosts those updates. - Built with the release script, which now survives Windows PowerShell
5.1's habit of treating cargo's stderr lines as terminating errors.
Run it in a virtual machine with UEFI firmware and Secure Boot off. The
VHD or IMG give you a writable disk; the ISO is read-only, and programs
installed there live in RAM until reboot.
