Installation & Setup

There are multiple ways to install and configure Awake Simple S1 on your Windows machine.

Method 1: Windows Package Manager (Winget) — Recommended

Install the official package from Microsoft's repository:

winget install Awake.AwakeSimpleS1

This automatically:

1. Downloads the latest verified installer.
2. Installs the runtime binary to C:\awss-bin\awss1.exe.
3. Adds C:\awss-bin to your System PATH so awss1 works in any terminal.
4. Registers .awss1 files in File Explorer.

Method 2: Standalone Setup Installer

1. Go to the Releases page.
2. Download AwakeSimpleS1_Setup.exe.
3. Run the installer (requires Administrator privileges).

Method 3: Manual / Portable Installation

If you compiled awss1.exe from source:

1. Place awss1.exe in any folder (e.g., C:\awss-bin\).
2. Open Command Prompt as Administrator and run:

   awss1.exe --register

3. This writes the file association to Windows Registry, sets the File Explorer description to "Awake Simple Series 1 File", and enables double-click execution.

Visual Studio Code / Cursor Support Kit Setup

To get full syntax highlighting, autocomplete, and line prediction:

1. Download the awake.awss1-support-1.0.0.vsix package from GitHub Releases.
2. Open VS Code or Cursor.
3. Open the Extensions sidebar (Ctrl + Shift + X).
4. Drag and drop the .vsix file into the Extensions panel.
5. (Optional) Turn on instant Tab-completion in VS Code Settings:
   • Open Settings (Ctrl + ,).
   • Search for Tab Completion and set it to on.
