Stable release: everything from the 0.9.37 betas, plus the changes below.

Heads up: Lantern Engine is moving to a fully native engine built from our own code. Expect bugs, even in stable releases. If something breaks, send your log in #issues on Discord (Launcher > More > Log > Export).

Built-in patches, now Lantern Engine's own

  • Every built-in game patch is now made by Lantern Engine. The community patch lists are gone and we made our own: the same patches under the same names, so your choices carry over. If one acts differently from before, let us know.
  • Sliding down slopes after a drop was very fast at 60 FPS and above. Fixed.
  • Running jumps fell short above 30 FPS. They now go as far as at 30 FPS.
  • Capes and coats stay steady at high and uncapped frame rates.
  • Uncapped FPS, screen space reflections and the debug camera are rebuilt as our own too.

Fixed

  • Hovering items with the mouse now updates the item info and stats (inventory, storage, shops, workshop).
  • W/A/S/D no longer acts as the d-pad after a message or a menu.
  • Character creation with the mouse: click or drag a slider row to change it, scroll the wheel for steps of 10, drag the preview to turn your hunter.
  • Not being able to interact in the Hunter's Dream until you pressed back: menus the engine keeps open are now checked and closed when you leave.
  • The App icon setting now changes your desktop, Start menu and taskbar shortcuts too.

New

  • Saves are backed up every 10 minutes while you play (when they changed), besides the backup at each start. Play > Save backups.

Since 0.9.36 (from the betas)

  • Far fewer stutters: shader catalogs for NVIDIA and AMD, and your cached shaders built before you play.
  • DLSS Frame Generation for RTX 40 and 50 (dynamic multi frame generation on RTX 50), FSR 3.1 frame generation fixes, frame generation with HDR.
  • A Linux build, with the same launcher.
  • Setup guide on first start, the launcher in 13 languages, an optional sidebar, updates that ask first, your own app icon.
  • Keyboard: several keys and key combinations per action, mouse sensitivity from -10 to 20, separate Confirm and Back buttons for menus.
  • Trophy pictures, and your own trophy sounds in WAV, MP3 or M4A.
  • Ebrietas: her second-phase crash and her rocks piling up are fixed.
  • FPS stuck low after lantern travel, and judder at 60 FPS on 120 Hz and faster screens, are fixed.
  • The AMD crash at start, black bars on widescreen without an upscaler, and mods on exFAT/FAT32 drives are fixed.
  • Save safety net, and "cannot create save file" now says why.
  • A freeze fix, less CPU work per frame, smoother frame pacing, less VRAM held.
  • OptiScaler is detected and runs in a safer mode.

Not tested

  • Played on the developer's RTX 5060 on Windows. Not started on AMD, Intel or an older NVIDIA card. Shaders and pipelines are the same as beta 9's (checked then under the Vulkan validation layer); the rewritten occlusion culling has only run on the RTX 5060.
  • Linux: built and its tests run, not played on a real Linux PC.
  • Rebirth at the Altar of Despair has not been run in game.

Known issues

  • Some lights, smoke and lamp glow missing, and blocky lighting, on some PCs.
  • Green or white flashes at doors in the Research Hall, and white or blue screens in the Forbidden Woods.
  • FPS dropping after long sessions on some PCs.
  • 4K with DLSS or FSR above Performance: light dotted outlines around tree branches.
  • Steam Deck: a crash in Game Mode after the intro (Desktop Mode works).
