KernelContract 0.1.0a2 Alpha Pre-release
KernelContract is an alpha diagnostic utility providing local-first, read-only health checks for Jupyter kernels, kernelspecs, and notebook environments.
What's Changed in 0.1.0a2:
- Hardened Cross-Platform Executable Resolution: Normalized path separators and added explicit Windows
PATHEXT(.COM,.EXE,.BAT,.CMD) extension checking for kernelspecargvcommands, ensuring reliable discovery on Windows across Python 3.10 through 3.13. - Symlink Tolerance in Test Assertions: Improved symlink tolerance in test assertions to ensure canonical interpreter resolution passes reliably on Linux/Ubuntu environments.
- Modernized CI Workflows: Updated GitHub Actions CI workflows to
actions/checkout@v7andactions/setup-python@v7targeting native Node.js 24 runner support without deprecation warnings. - Hardened JSON Root Structure Validation: Validated JSON root types and
kernelspecsfield structure indiscover_kernelspecs(), gracefully returning structured errors instead of unhandled exceptions when encountering malformed JSON (e.g. empty arrays, nulls, strings, numbers, or missing/non-dict fields).
