2.4.0 (2026-08-19)

Features Added

  • Agent-to-agent (A2A) tool graduated to general availability. Added A2ATool and A2AToolboxTool with A2AProtocolVersion (values include V1_0), plus ToolType.A2A and ToolboxToolType.A2A discriminator values. The preview A2APreviewTool / A2APreviewToolboxTool (a2a_preview) are retained alongside for backward compatibility.
  • Added AgentDetails.getStateSource() and the new AgentStateSource enum (AGENT_INSTANCE_IDENTITY, AGENT_BLUEPRINT) to expose where an agent's operational state is derived from (agent instance identity or agent blueprint).
  • Added ContainerConfiguration.setRegistryConnectionId(...) / getRegistryConnectionId() for supplying the Foundry project connection that holds the credentials for a private container registry hosting the hosted-agent image. ContainerConfiguration is now @Fluent instead of @Immutable.
  • Added AgentOptimizationJob.setInputs(...) and AgentOptimizationJob.getWarnings() to configure inputs directly and to read non-fatal warnings emitted during preview optimization.
  • Added AgentDefinitionOptInKeys.VOICE_AGENTS_V1_PREVIEW (VoiceAgents=V1Preview) opt-in flag.

Breaking Changes

  • Preview agent-optimization models were renamed to include the Agent prefix, and BetaAgentsClient / BetaAgentsAsyncClient methods (getOptimizationJob, listOptimizationJobs, cancelOptimizationJob, beginCreateOptimizationJob, and their async counterparts) now use the renamed types. Notable renames:
    • OptimizationJob → AgentOptimizationJob
    • OptimizationJobInputs → AgentOptimizationJobInputs
    • OptimizationJobListItem → AgentOptimizationJobListItem
    • OptimizationJobProgress → AgentOptimizationJobProgress
    • OptimizationJobResult → AgentOptimizationJobResult
    • OptimizationOptions → AgentOptimizationOptions
    • OptimizationCandidate → AgentOptimizationCandidate
    • OptimizationDatasetInput / OptimizationInlineDatasetInput / OptimizationReferenceDatasetInput / OptimizationDatasetItem / OptimizationDatasetCriterion / OptimizationDatasetInputType → their AgentOptimization* counterparts
    • OptimizationEvaluatorRef → AgentOptimizationEvaluatorRef
    • OptimizationAgentIdentifier → OptimizedAgentIdentifier

Other Changes

  • WorkflowAgentDefinition documentation was updated to note that Microsoft Foundry is retiring workflows on December 1, 2026, with a link to the workflow migration guide.
  • Regenerated client from the updated TypeSpec specification.
