Custom Domain Setup validation failed

Describe the bug
Hi,
I am trying to add a custom domain to my Azure Static Web App, but I keep getting this error message:

An unknown error has occurred while adding your custom domain. Please try again later.

It shows the status "success" after the validation, but in the custom domain table is it "Validation failed".

Info: I had previously added this custom domain to a storage account. But I deleted this ressource already, so there might be no conflicts between them about the custom domain.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

1. Setup the CNAME entry to the according value
2. Test subdomain resolution
3. Go to Static Web App -> Custom domains -> Add -> Custom Domain on other DNS
4. Entered the Domain name -> Click Next
5. Check data -> click Add

Expected behavior
Configure and setup the custom domain, so it is reachable.

I found a similar Issue, that was solved in the past: Issue
There was the domain flagged and they unblocked it. Is this here the same Issue?

I doubt you can set a "custom domain" that is owned by Azure Static Apps service. Why would you do that? The Azure Portal should have blocked this request.

@DPJorisWillrodt were you able to fix this issue? I'm having the same problem when adding a subdomain.

There has to be something wrong with the Azure service when it comes to adding subdomains.

If I attempt to add a subdomain then it will give the error. If I click add again then it will show Validated in the side panel but when I close it it shows Validation Failed in the table.

If I instead leave it as Validation Failed for a few days and then go back and delete the custom domain and re-add it then it will actually validate successfully and get properly added.

You may think that this was an issue due to DNS propagation but I assure you it is not the case. The CNAME record was created weeks ago.

Additionally if, after successfully adding it once, I remove the custom domain and try to add it again I get stuck in the same loop and I have to wait a few days for it to succeed.

I recently made the exact same observation as you and wanted – you are not alone!

During my last experience with Azure SWA a while back this was not an issue.
