lon[eng] Microenterprise Stack
Theory
Modern tooling makes standing-up a full container orchestration stack far simpler and more pragmatic than it was a few years ago.
Brief
To architect and build a software stack to support microenterprise software development for DV.
Desired Artifact
A repo of documentation, architecture diagrams and full IaC from which a new DV venture could stand up a complete event-based services architecture, with core functionality baked in:
Service Discovery
Operability
Observability
The stack should provide functionality for:
Service mesh
Security - API perimeter/WAF
AuthZ/AuthN
i18n/l10n
Caching
Testing (unit and system)
Developer experience / local runtime
Service to service calls both sync and async
Pub/Sub message broker
Observability
Operability
Deployment (blue/green)
Versioning
Horizontal auto-scaling
DNS
Multiple environments
Persistence (SQL + noSQL)
Action Plan
This is a big ask, which runs the risk of getting rapidly complex and potentially out of control. !
To mitigate this risk, we should collaborate and take small steps.
Create a working group - document on Confluence
Assign RI Director[s] to the project
Seek contributors from the cohort
Create repo and project on BCGDV Github
Begin C4 architecture diagrams
Build helloWorld services
Spike simple container deployments with various tools/cloud providers
RI Director establish meeting cadence and next steps
