New Proton-Launch Release

Version 2.0.0

What is this?

Proton-Launch / BlueDivisionWrapper is a bash script designed to effortlessly launch the game on Linux. If you're not using Linux, you might prefer the Blue Division Windows Updater instead.

Changes

  1. Major Script Overhaul

    • Complete refactoring and optimization of the script's codebase, improving maintainability and readability.
    • Enhanced error handling using set -euo pipefail, ensuring that the script exits immediately on any error.
  2. New Logging System

    • Introduced a robust logging system with color-coded outputs for better visibility and debugging.
    • Added detailed debug logs that can be toggled with the --debug flag.
  3. OS Detection and Dependency Management

    • Implemented automatic OS detection and tailored dependency installation for various Linux distributions.
    • Added support for Fedora Atomic variants (e.g., Kinoite, Silverblue) with appropriate installation commands.
  4. Improved Update Mechanism

    • Enhanced the version-checking system using JSON parsing with jq for managing script, game, and Proton-GE updates.
    • Added functionality to check for and install local update files if available before fetching from remote sources.
  5. Download and Extraction Enhancements

    • Streamlined the download and extraction process with better error handling and cleanup mechanisms.
    • Consolidated the extraction logic for .tar.gz and .zip files into a single download_and_extract function.
  6. User Prompt Improvements

    • Unified user prompt system with improved GUI dialog support (kdialog, zenity, tkinter, whiptail).
    • Fallback to command-line prompts if no GUI is available.
  7. Advanced Argument Parsing

    • Added support for command-line arguments to skip specific updates, set custom paths, enable debug mode, and display help/version information.
  8. Root User Warning

    • Implemented a warning system for running the script as the root user, including a countdown before proceeding.
  9. Enhanced Proton-GE Management

    • Automated the removal of older Proton-GE versions after a successful update to reduce disk usage.
    • Improved detection of the highest available Proton-GE version for launching the game.
  10. Version Management with JSON

    • Introduced a JSON-based version management system for tracking and updating the script, game, and Proton-GE versions.

How do I use this?

Download the Proton-Launch.sh file and place it where you want to install the game. The script will handle the rest, including dependency installation, game updates, and launching the game using the latest Proton-GE version.
