Overview

There are several Fitness & Activity Tracker APIs out there to fetch data from wearable equipment. Fitbit, Jawbone, Nike are among them. We can utilize those APIs to get authentic data for users such as number of steps, quality of sleep, calories burned and we can issue HealthCoins based on the activities for the user. Users can redeem these HealthCoins in number of ways. Consider following scenarios,

  1. When a user is playing a game like Candy Crush Saga, he'll have to wait some time duration to get extra life to play the game. So instead of waiting, user can redeem HealthCoins for lifes, medical kits, extra powers and any other packages related to the game.

  2. Government or Non-Government organizations conducting programs like ActiveSG, Lose To Win™ can use HealthCoins to award special rates, discounts ...etc

  3. Retails shops selling health/fitness equipment can give discounts based on HealthCoins for users.

  4. Insurance companies can use HealthCoins to give discounts for the premiums.

The 4 pillars

Sleep, Activity, Food, and Mind

User Stories

  1. User registration (Individual and Partners)

  2. Synchronizing data on Steps, Exercises/Calories burned and Sleep from Fitness APIs for Individuals

  3. Food logging. There are already a ton of apps in the market but in this case the user acquires HealthCoins for logging, so they can keep logging and make it a rewarding activity. We can tie up with food vendors where the user can just send us a picture of the invoice and we can parse the items they have ordered.

  4. Individual users are able to authorize partners to read & deduct HealthCoins

  5. Health education. We can ask them questions about health, and for correct answers we give them HealthCoins.

  6. Design a intelligent platform to rewarding HealthCoins based on user activities such as how frequent they do exercises, how often they log food, how much they are having sleep

  7. Introduce personalize goals for users. For example if a users has completed 100k steps during this week, the app should propose the user to take 1000 more steps for next week. Rewards HealthCoins when user achieve the goal.

  8. Introduce Status Levels like bronze, silver, gold and platinum for Individual users similar in Travel Smart Rewards. We can set goals to user to go higher in status level. (Check the example from TravelSmartRewards : You need 3 decongesting trips this week to reach silver status)

  9. Another idea can be borrowed from TravelSmart : "Each week, some lucky users will be given special Magic Box offers to allow them to earn extra points."

  10. Display the history and the rate of coins accumulations using graphical way. We can use d3.js/highcharts to draw graphs and tables...etc.

  11. We can encourage users to do frequent health checkups by rewarding coins per health checkup. We can partner with hospitals and medical centers to collect these information.. (We might not be able to implement this feature, but we can project this idea as a prospective feature during the demo)

  12. Create a two different mobile apps (Android) one for Individual User and one for Partner.

  13. Social media integration. (eg: Post earned HealthCoins to Facebook from app to app or using backend server)

Mobile Payments
  1. Allow an end-user to pay with HealthCoins thru their NFC-enabled smart devices. Tapping the end-user and vendor phones to make a transaction

  2. We can achieve story 11 above using NFC enabled devices to transfer the data about health checkups to collect HealthCoins.

  3. When individual users buy health/fitness equipment from partnered retail shops, they can use NFC devices to collect HealthCoins

Mobile Transaction Flow

Step 1: Both payer and payee open their respective apps (end-user app and vendor app)

Step 2: Both phones tap to communicate via NFC

Step 3: Payer app screen will indicate to user that payment has been initiated and waiting for update from server for the amount to deduct

Step 4: Payee app screen will ask the user to enter the amount to charge to the user and submit to the server

Step 5: Payer app screen gets updated with the amount to pay and whether to confirm the transaction

Step 6: Payer and Payee app screens waits for the response to see whether the transaction was successful

Step 7: Show successful payment message

Alternative Flow For Mobile Transaction

Step 1: Payee go to "Accept Payments" view and enter the amount to be charged from Payer.

Step 2: Payer click "Pay By HC" button to activate NFC transcation

Step 3: Both phones tap to communicate via NFC

Step 4: Payee app sends payee identifier (or device id) and the amount to be charged to Payer App

Step 5: Payer sees the amount to pay and agrees to pay the given amount by clicking "Pay Now" button.

Step 6: Payer app will call backend REST API by passing both payee identifier and amount. Server will do the transaction between two parties and send the status (Success or failure message and remaining balance) to Payer in the response call.

Step 7: Payee refresh the view and see he is paid by the Payer. (or if possible update Payee via a push notification)

Note: In this scenario Payee doesn't send any request regarding the transaction to the server. Only payer sends the request.
