Review Protocol

A systematic literature review is likely not necessary to conduct this work, but having a protocol developed which clearly documents why and how the review will take place is very useful.

The Prisma checklist is a good start. It asks you to specify in advance what questions are being asked, how they will be answered through literature searching and analysis, etc.

For this protocol I suggest we do the following:

Look for existing reviews on mutual aid and canonical works in this area (here is a quick scan to get started)

Write first draft of:

  • Rationale: Describe the rationale for the review in the context of what is already known (e.g. drawing on above)

  • Research Questions: Provide an explicit statement of the question(s) the review will address including who are the stakeholders / audience for the review

  • Inclusion and Exclusion criteria: In short, what will be searched, over what period of time, what searches will be executed and what will constitute a study being included or not being included.
