• Books group into series automatically, even when the file doesn't say so.
  Ebook files carry series information only when someone (usually calibre) put
  it there; everything else became a shelf of one. The metadata service now
  supplies the series — and the book's position in it — so matched books are
  grouped onto a single series shelf in reading order. A series the file
  declares itself is still authoritative and is never overridden, and the
  learned grouping survives a rescan.
