Release list
SleepSync 1.1.0
SleepSync 1.1.0
SleepSync 1.1.0 expands Syncthing-Fork compatibility and adds support for multiple installed Syncthing-Fork variants.
What's new
- Current Syncthing-Fork builds — supports
com.github.catfriend1.syncthingfork. - Root / debug builds — supports
com.github.catfriend1.syncthingfork.debug, including therefactorRootGitHub Actions build. - Legacy Syncthing-Fork builds — supports
com.github.catfriend1.syncthingandroidand its.debugvariant. - Multiple builds installed at once — when more than one compatible Syncthing-Fork build is installed, SleepSync lets you choose which one to control.
- Target persistence — the selected Syncthing-Fork target is remembered across app restarts and device reboots.
- Dynamic control — Open Syncthing-Fork, Test STOP, Test FOLLOW, and the automatic screen OFF/ON behavior all use the selected package.
- Safe target switching — when SleepSync is enabled and you switch targets, the previous target is released with
FOLLOWbefore SleepSync starts controlling the new one.
Verified compatibility
The full screen-state flow was tested on an Android 15 emulator with all three builds installed side by side:
- Syncthing-Fork 2.1.5.0 — current release package
- Syncthing-Fork 2.1.5.0 refactorRoot/debug — GitHub Actions root/debug package
- Syncthing-Fork 1.30.0.5 — legacy package ID
For each target, the complete path was verified:
- Screen OFF → SleepSync sends
STOP→ Syncthing-Fork receivesforceStop by intent - Screen ON → SleepSync waits 1 second and sends
FOLLOW→ Syncthing-Fork receivesfollowRunConditions by intent
The existing AYN Thor and Retroid Pocket Classic behavior remains unchanged.
Installation
Download SleepSync.apk from this release and install it normally. Existing SleepSync users can install 1.1.0 over their current version to keep their settings.
In current Syncthing-Fork builds, enable Settings → Behaviour → Service Control by Broadcast. On older v1 builds, this option may be under Settings → Experimental.
Core behavior
- Screen OFF → Syncthing
STOP - Screen ON → Syncthing
FOLLOWafter 1 second - Reboot → SleepSync starts again automatically if it was enabled
SleepSync remains independent and unofficial and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Syncthing or Syncthing-Fork.
SleepSync 1.0.1
SleepSync 1.0.1
A small reliability and polish update focused on setup, status feedback, and Android integration.
What's new
- Status refresh fix — after tapping Enable SleepSync,
Enabled • service startingnow automatically changes to✓ Activeonce the foreground service has started. - Finish setup button — backgrounds the SleepSync interface without stopping the service. Using Home / swipe-up from the bottom has the same effect.
- Automatic recovery — if SleepSync is still enabled but its service is no longer running, reopening the app starts the service again automatically instead of requiring Disable / Enable.
- Android adaptive launcher icon — proper adaptive icon layers, legacy fallbacks, and a monochrome themed-icon layer for supported Android versions.
- Clearer background guidance — on devices where dismissing SleepSync from Recents stops the service, leave the app normally instead of swiping it away from the task switcher.
Core behavior
The Syncthing control logic is unchanged:
- Screen OFF → Syncthing
STOP - Screen ON → Syncthing
FOLLOWafter 1 second - Reboot → SleepSync starts again automatically if it was enabled
The AYN Thor lid open/close flow and repeated STOP/FOLLOW cycles were stress-tested before this release.
Installation
Download SleepSync.apk from this release and install it normally. If you already have SleepSync 1.0.0 installed, install 1.0.1 over it to keep your existing settings.
In Syncthing-Fork, Settings → Behaviour → Service Control by Broadcast must be enabled.
SleepSync 1.0.0
SleepSync 1.0.0
First public release of SleepSync.
SleepSync is a lightweight Android companion for Syncthing-Fork that helps reduce standby battery drain by stopping Syncthing while the device is asleep and resuming it automatically when the device wakes.
Battery saving
On some Android handhelds, Syncthing can keep running during sleep and noticeably increase overnight battery drain.
In my own testing on an AYN Thor, overnight battery drain dropped from about 14% to 2% with SleepSync enabled.
Battery savings will vary depending on the device and configuration.
How it works
- Screen OFF → Syncthing
STOP - Screen ON → Syncthing
FOLLOW - Reboot → SleepSync starts again automatically if enabled
SleepSync keeps working in the background even after its interface is closed.
Clamshell handhelds
SleepSync also works with Android clamshell devices such as the AYN Thor:
- Close the lid → Syncthing stops
- Open the lid → Syncthing resumes
The same behavior applies to other compatible handhelds where closing the lid turns the screen off.
Setup
- In Syncthing-Fork, enable
Settings → Behaviour → Service Control by Broadcast - Install
SleepSync.apk - Open SleepSync
- Tap Enable SleepSync
That’s it.
