Bare 1.0.0
The first stable release. Bare moves from Chromium 153.0.8010.27 to 156.0.8078.25, picking up
upstream's security fixes, and the series is now 160 patches. There are no more alpha or beta
releases; updates from here are stable ones.
Bare is Chromium with the Google parts taken out, kept as a patch series rather than a fork so
every change stays readable.
Which APK should I download?
Bare-1.0.0-arm64-v8a.apkis for most Android phones from the last several years. If you are
unsure, take this one.Bare-1.0.0-armeabi-v7a.apkis for 32-bit ARM devices only. It is not lighter or better on a
64-bit phone.
What’s new since 1.0.0-alpha.3
- Chromium 156. Bare is now built on Chromium 156.
- uBlock Origin 1.75.0. Bare includes the version published by uBlock Origin’s author. If you already use uBlock Origin, Bare moves your settings to the new copy during the update. If you removed it, Bare won’t reinstall it. We also fixed cases where Android could stop filtering until Bare restarted.
- Extensions are easier to manage on a phone. The Extensions page fits phone screens. You can load an unpacked extension or a downloaded CRX, check for updates, and allow individual extensions in Incognito directly from their cards. You no longer need to turn on Developer mode first.
- A new welcome flow. Choose your search engine, ad blocker, address bar position, download behavior, background audio, notifications, default browser, and update settings. After an update, the welcome shows your existing choices so you can review what’s new.
- Developer tools on phones. Open them from the menu, along with View page source and Inspect. The tools still have small controls on a phone screen.
- A cleaner Google new tab page. Google search still works, without the broken Discover card, doodle request, or theme promotion.
- Privacy and reliability fixes. We removed several unnecessary requests to Google, including the DNS lookup triggered by a failed navigation. We also fixed Incognito extension crashes, unreadable light pages in dark theme, extension popup behavior, and toolbar shortcuts. Exit now has an icon.
The full list of network changes and smaller fixes is in the release documentation.

Upgrading from 1.0.0-alpha.3
Install 1.0.0 over your existing Bare. Do not uninstall first. Tabs, history, bookmarks,
extensions and settings carry over.
The welcome appears once after upgrading. It is a review: your choices are already filled in, and
anything you leave alone stays as it was.
