Lestrix 0.4.0

@BeanGreen247 BeanGreen247 released this 14 Oct 08:38
  • Rewritten from C to C++20: GLib is gone completely (standard library plus a small util layer), no GTK anywhere, smart pointers and std::function instead of manual frees and void* contexts. Terminal engine speed is unchanged (README has the 0.3.0 vs 0.4.0 table)
  • Built-in fast cat: cat bigfile and producer | cat in a local tab are finished by the terminal reading the data itself (256 MB: 0.35 s instead of about 6.5 s). No helper binary, no PATH wrapper; toggle in View > Fast cat or --no-fastcat
  • New --basic mode: one bare terminal with no menu bar, tabs, sidebar or stats; own desktop entry
  • Coloured tabs now colour the tab background, with dark or light text for contrast
  • Cache statistics: Ctrl+Shift+I (remappable in settings.ini [keys]), kill -USR1, or --cache-stats
  • Lower resource use in all three modes: the cursor stops blinking after 10 s idle (0 idle wake-ups in Lite and Basic), helper threads start on demand, adaptive frame cap while output floods, faster colour output in the engine
  • Fix: the pin button in the sidebar rail drew nothing during the rewrite; restored
  • Removed: the lxcat helper (pipelines and files are handled by the terminal itself)

@BeanGreen247 BeanGreen247 released this 08 Oct 19:24
  • Session-ended prompt (restart, duplicate, close, keep open) when a tab's shell or ssh session ends
  • Fleetwm-style installer: numbered steps, one sudo prompt, packages installed automatically, no dialogs
  • Credit line in --version and --help
  • Fix: SIGCHLD ignored by the launcher no longer breaks git and other programs in tabs
  • Core count in the stats bar, inotify for the Fleetwm theme, fewer idle wake-ups, more fast-output printers

Lestrix 0.2.2

@BeanGreen247 BeanGreen247 released this 05 Oct 02:59

The native edition now runs on SDL2 and OpenGL (with OpenGL ES 3 and ES 2 fallbacks for Raspberry Pi and Mali boards) instead of GTK4, with a much faster terminal engine: scrollback stored in compressed segments, bulk text parsing on worker threads, reader and writer I/O threads, and an idle window that draws almost nothing. New: a paste button, a performance bar with hover help for every figure, lxcat (a fast cat for local tabs), a remembered sidebar state, and an installer that is a dialog program from start to finish (./install.sh: the choices, the sudo password, and the build and test output all appear in dialog boxes) that installs or removes Lestrix and can set it as the default terminal. The old Python/Qt prototype is removed from the repository (it is still in the git history), so Lestrix is Linux only for now. native/test.sh runs every test and native/benchmark compares Lestrix with the other terminals installed on your machine. Install: ./install.sh.

@BeanGreen247 BeanGreen247 released this 03 Oct 22:42

Fixes a crash when connecting to hosts from ~/.ssh/config, sets the window icon and WM class so the panel shows the icon, and lists a Host alias that appears on several lines once. Install: cd native && ./install.sh --deps; remove with ./uninstall.sh.

Superseded by 0.2.1: this version crashes when connecting to hosts from ~/.ssh/config. Use v0.2.1.
