Security Measures

Implemented Security Features

Authentication & Authorization

  • ✅ Password strength validation (min 8 chars, uppercase, lowercase, digit)
  • ✅ Bcrypt password hashing with automatic salt
  • ✅ JWT tokens with expiration and issued-at timestamps
  • ✅ Constant-time password comparison to prevent timing attacks

Production Checklist

Before Deployment

  • Change SECRET_KEY from default value
  • Update DATABASE_URL with production credentials
  • Configure CORS allowed_origins (remove "*")
  • Enable TrustedHostMiddleware with production domains
  • Disable /docs endpoint (set docs_url=None)
  • Set up HTTPS/TLS certificates
  • Configure rate limiting middleware
  • Set up monitoring and alerting
  • Enable database connection encryption
  • Configure MinIO with MINIO_SECURE=true
  • Set up backup strategy for database and files
  • Review and harden PostgreSQL configuration
  • Implement request logging (without sensitive data)

Recommended Additional Measures

  • Add rate limiting per IP/user (e.g., slowapi)
  • Implement account lockout after failed login attempts
  • Add email verification for signup
  • Implement password reset flow
  • Add audit logging for sensitive operations
  • Set up Web Application Firewall (WAF)
  • Implement IP whitelisting for admin operations
  • Add request size limits at reverse proxy level
  • Set up DDoS protection
  • Implement session management with refresh tokens
  • Add 2FA support
  • Regular security audits and penetration testing

Known Limitations (MVP)

  • No rate limiting middleware (implement before production)
  • No account lockout mechanism
  • No email verification
  • No password reset functionality
  • No audit logging
  • CORS allows all origins (must restrict in production)
  • No request body size limits at application level
  • No IP-based blocking
