v2.1.2
What's changed
Settings
- The "Install updates automatically" switch is now hidden when Findr runs in a container or from source, where it never had any effect. Those installs are told about new releases and updated by pulling a new image or the latest code. The Updates section and its status panel still show.

What's changed
Discover
- Titles that haven't been released yet (or have no release date) no longer appear in curated rows or genre browsing. Hyped upcoming films used to land in "Top 10 Movies This Week" because TMDB's trending list ranks by site activity, not by release.
- Search still finds unreleased titles, and their title sheet now warns: "Not released yet. Releases will be scarce or missing entirely."
- Removed the "Now Playing in Theaters" row; films that are only in cinemas rarely have good releases.
CI
- Release actions moved to their Node 24 majors.

2.1.0
What's new
Updates from inside Findr. Findr now checks GitHub for new releases at startup and every six hours, and shows a banner on Library and Settings when one is out.
- Standalone executable: update in one click. The download is verified against
SHA256SUMS.txt, swapped in, and Findr restarts with your data intact. Optionally turn on Settings → Updates → Install updates automatically, which waits until no downloads are queued or running. - Source checkout or container: you get a notification, plus how to update.
Official container image. Every release now publishes ghcr.io/benzo-fury/findr for linux/amd64 and linux/arm64, with mkvmerge and ffmpeg included. Tags are 2.1.0, 2.1 and latest. See Running Findr in Docker.
Fixes
- No more crash when a peer connects in during processing. An encrypted incoming connection to a paused torrent (e.g. one being remuxed) crashed Findr with
TypeError: ... this.swarm.private. WebTorrent is now patched, and the crash is reported upstream.

v2.0.1
Findr 2.0 - Rebuilt Ground Up
Findr 2.0 is a complete rewrite. The goal hasn't changed: pick a title and Findr finds it, downloads it, cleans it and files it in your library. But almost everything underneath is new, and Findr now ships as a single executable you can download and run.
This is the first release published on GitHub. If you ran an earlier Findr from source, read Upgrading below; there is no automatic migration.
Highlights
- 📦 One binary, no setup. Download the executable for your platform and run it. No
.env, no PostgreSQL, noconfig.json: the database is SQLite, and every setting is edited on the Settings page. - 🧲 Built-in torrent client. qBittorrent is no longer needed. Findr now downloads through a built-in WebTorrent client, and Prowlarr is the only service it depends on.
- 🔍 Prowlarr search. The YTS, EZTV and TheRARBG scrapers (and the Rust
therarbg-clibuild step) are replaced by Prowlarr, so you can search any indexer you configure there. - 🏆 Smarter ranking. Every release title is parsed (resolution, codec, HDR, source, group, season/episode structure) and scored against weights you control. Hard filters reject cams, wrong years, wrong seasons and oversized files. Rejected releases are kept with the reason, so you can see why each one was skipped.
- 🤖 Wrong-title filter (optional). Claude screens the top candidates and drops releases that are actually a different film or show.
- 🛡️ Inspected before downloaded. Findr fetches the torrent's file list first and rejects executables, scripts, archive-only releases and incomplete packs before any payload downloads. Only the needed video files are fetched.
- 🧼 Remux instead of re-encode. Sterilizing now uses
mkvmergeinstead of an ffmpeg re-encode. Video and audio come through untouched at full quality, and subtitles, attachments, chapters, tags and embedded titles are removed. It is also far faster. - 🔁 Automatic fallback. When a release stalls, crawls, hangs or turns out to be bad, Findr rejects it, cleans up and moves on to the next candidate on its own.
- 📺 Proper season handling. Findr takes a complete season pack when one exists. Otherwise it fetches each aired episode separately and reports exactly which ones made it.
- 🔒 VPN killswitch (optional). Binds every torrent connection to your VPN's address, re-checks routes as soon as they change, and pauses downloads until the VPN is back. See docs/VPN.md.
- 💾 Library-safe saves. Files go into the library atomically under your naming templates, so Plex or Jellyfin never sees a half-copied file.
A new web app
The UI has been redesigned from scratch:
- Library: your whole library loads instantly, with grid and list views, live search, facets, sorting and an A–Z rail.
- Discover: a spotlight, a top-ten list, curated shelves and endless genre browsing, all from TMDB.
- Downloads: live progress through every step, the queue, and a searchable history. Each download opens to show its attempts, episodes and every release considered, and you can hand-pick a release to retry.
- Settings: every option on one page, searchable, validated as you type.
- ⌘K search answers from your library first, then TMDB. Any title opens in a sheet from any page.
- Works on phones, with a bottom tab bar and draggable sheets.
Accounts and security
- Private by default. Findr only answers requests from the machine it runs on until you enable remote access in Settings.
- First sign-in is
admin/admin, and Findr makes you replace that email and password before anything else works. - There is no public sign-up. Admins create accounts and manage roles and passwords from Settings.
- API keys are never sent to the browser, and the API is rate-limited.
Downloads
| Platform | File |

| Linux (x64) | findr-linux-x64 |
| Linux (ARM64) | findr-linux-arm64 |

Checksums are in SHA256SUMS.txt. On macOS, clear the download quarantine before the first run: xattr -d com.apple.quarantine findr-darwin-*.MKVToolNix (mkvmerge on your PATH), and a free TMDB API key. An Anthropic API key is optional, for the wrong-title filter. A ready-made Docker Compose setup for Prowlarr is in docker/.
Upgrading from an earlier Findr
Findr 2.0 shares no storage or configuration with earlier versions:
- It does not read the old PostgreSQL database,
.envfiles orconfig.json. It starts with a fresh SQLite database indata/, next to wherever you run it. - qBittorrent, ffmpeg, Rust and PostgreSQL are no longer needed.
- Files already in your movie and TV folders are not touched. Point the library paths in Settings at the same folders.
