A better hackathon.

Teams form at least a week before the event. They decide on what they want to do and what technologies to use. Mentors for those technologies along with volunteer developers directly from the companies, helping remotely.

Teams plan out their app ahead of time and are given a custom course to complete, maybe via gitbooks. Once teams complete courses they unlock access to mentors and become able to apply for challenges/prizes.

A web-app that allows teams to send out a question to the entire hackathon, teams, organizers and mentors. This will increase collaboration and knowledge sharing. The questions will be tagged with technologies involved to notify specifically teams/mentors that are of that skill. This may allow for remote mentors and team members.

A physical LED light that flashes at the teams table that has a question to alert organizers/mentors.

A projector showing hackathons stats and hangouts with remote mentors, etc...

Clearly defining part-time workflows and infrastructure for remote collaboration/development/deployment for teams to organize unofficial reunion mini-hack weekends.

Better accommodations. Making sure hackers have a nice place to take their naps (sleeping bags/cots). Food, shelter and good internet!

- A team incubator, which is pretty much like what Charles and I sent link about. Teams are formed here.
- A label system, which allows teams to not only describe their ideas in written words, but also characterize them with "labels" such as "Ruby", "JavaScript", "Visual game developing", "hardware hacking involved"... this would allow mentors to pair up with teams quickly. A web design mentor can just search for "web" and browse all the teams that are going to do web related topics.
- An online course pool/library which also provides searching according to those labels.
- A web forum(this might be an easy part).
- A mobile app (preferably cross-platform) that sends requests to the control center (which will be monitored by organizers) for mentor assistance, hardware requirement or medical assistance.
