stl2step 1.7.0 + SolidOut 0.2.6 for macOS and Windows

TrueForm now heals what it used to discard. When the analytic rebuild failed in one place, 1.6.0 threw away the whole part and shipped it faceted. 1.7.0 drops only what failed, keeps everything else, and recognises the holes and walls those reverts were hiding.

Engine 1.7.0

  • Heal instead of revert. A region that fails topology classification no longer discards the part.
    • A "full" cylinder whose boundary is really one loop ships as the partial cylinder it is.
    • Any other failing region alone becomes facets, and the rest of the part ships analytic. The retry is bounded and uses constant memory.
  • Volume checks that fail for the right reason only.
    • A closed, valid shell built from an inward-wound mesh is no longer rejected for its sign.
    • When a shell really does miss the mesh volume, only the regions that fail their own fit and their own share of the volume budget are dropped to facets.
    • If no region qualifies, the part reverts with a named reason (classB-no-region-qualifies).
  • Holes close into one cylinder. A hole the mesh splits into pieces is rebuilt from its two exact mouth circles. Its rims ship as exact circles.
  • Walls.
    • Closed coaxial walls whose mesh carries extra seam vertices ship as one cylinder.
    • A partial wall with no flat neighbour is anchored by the tangent corner fillet it meets.
  • Edges.
    • Coaxial chamfer rims ship as exact circles instead of mesh polylines.
    • A flat face's outline no longer crosses a tangent circle.
    • A small round is no longer mistaken for a cone.
  • Results on the test set:
    • A new training part, a flanged wheel full of bolt-circle holes, bores and spoke windows, used to ship 100 % faceted. It now converts in seconds as one closed solid of planes and cylinders, with only a few small faceted regions left.
    • The corpus parts S29_hex_law and cyl_meets_chamfer, and three build fixtures that reverted whole, now ship analytic.
    • The tray's chamfer rims are circles, and the handle pickup gains two cylinder bands.
    • Every other training file and corpus file converts byte-identically to 1.6.0, and none is slower.
  • Tested: every change was audited and render-checked. The full suite passes on macOS, Linux and Windows locally and on GitHub Actions.
  • Builds: the Windows engine is built by GitHub Actions (OCCT 8.0.1). The macOS engine is built for macOS 26.0 and later (unchanged).

SolidOut 0.2.6

  • Bundles engine 1.7.0 on macOS and Windows. The in-app updater offers 1.7.0 to existing installs.
  • SolidOut Web (makerinparadise.com/solidout) picks up engine 1.7.0 automatically.
  • Windows setup.exe and .msi are built on GitHub Actions with the exact stl2step.exe from stl2step-engine-v1.7.0-windows-x64.zip. They are not Authenticode-signed, so SmartScreen may warn on first run.
  • macOS: Developer ID signed and notarized; requires macOS 26.0 or later.
