Rebind 1.0.0
Rebind 1.0.0
The first public release of Rebind, a free and open-source app that remaps keys, mouse buttons and trackpad gestures on macOS.
What you can do
- Turn keys, middle and extra mouse buttons and supported touch gestures into shortcuts and macOS actions.
- Use press, double press and hold, a short-press fallback on hold bindings, and a held mouse button combined with movement or the wheel.
- Arrange windows, switch desktops, control sound and media, open apps, files and websites, run Apple Shortcuts and insert text.
- Keep separate bindings for the built-in trackpad and a Magic Trackpad, switch profiles by hand, and limit a binding to one app or switch Rebind off in others.
- Tune the mouse wheel and supported Logitech settings, and see battery levels of connected devices.
- Get started with a short first-run guide, back up and import your setup, pause from the menu bar, and receive signed updates.
- Use the app in English, Russian, German, French, Spanish or Simplified Chinese.
Install
- Download Rebind-1.0.0-15.dmg below, open it and drag Rebind into Applications.
- Open Rebind. Because the app is not notarized by Apple, macOS blocks the first launch. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security, click Open Anyway next to the message about Rebind and confirm. Details are in the installation guide.
- Follow the first-run guide to allow Accessibility access.
You can check the download against the attached SHA256SUMS.txt: shasum -a 256 -c SHA256SUMS.txt.
Good to know
- Rebind requires macOS 26 or later. It has been tested on Apple silicon with macOS 27; macOS 26 and Intel Macs have not been tested yet.
- Trackpad and Magic Mouse gestures are experimental and rely on a private macOS interface. macOS gestures stay on, so the system may respond to the same touch. Swipes, pinch and rotation are not supported.
- Caps Lock, Fn/Globe, modifier-only triggers and telling left and right modifiers apart are not supported. Bindings apply to an input category, not to one particular device.
- Device settings and battery readings depend on the model and how it is connected. Some actions depend on macOS shortcuts, permissions or the app in front.
- Rebind checks GitHub for updates once a day and asks before installing one (you can turn this off in Settings → General). Your settings stay on your Mac, nothing you type is recorded and no analytics are sent. Text saved in an Insert Text binding is stored unencrypted, so do not use it for passwords.
The user guide has examples and recovery steps. Found a problem? Open an issue with your Rebind version, macOS version, device and the steps that lead to it, but please do not attach your configuration or private text.
